In reference to the high cost of spinners, recently our club had a open house at our new flying field. A full size restored 1947 J-3 had flown in for the occasion. Yes we do have a LARGE flying field with two runways to booth. I noticed a 6" spinner on the J-3 and asked the pilot and owner of the plane what he paid for the spinner. He said he paid about $40.00 new. Just goes to show you when you buy parts for this hobby you will pay highly inflated prices. A $130 for a 4" spinner is highway robbery. Those guys at Tru-Turn in Texas are living large.
More pictures of the restored J-3 and our open house can be seen at our website www.baycityflyers.com under Club News/Recent Events.

Gee thanks Rcguy1, for making me feel like a moron for spending more than 1/4 the cost of the whole plane just for a spinner, only to find out that full scale parts are cheaper
.
I know I could have gone a much cheaper route but to tell you the truth I just want to get this thing going. It has been sitting around in my basement for a few weeks, finished, except for a few small problems such as this. It got to the point where I couldnt take it anymore and just did it to get the plane finished.
Now, hopefully if the weather holds up this weekend, I will de-virginize this bird!

My post about spinner prices wasn't meant to make anyone feel like a moron. It was just one man's opinion and you know what they say about opinions. Besides $130 to $379 is more like 1/3rd the price of the PW 300.
On the other hand, I found myself in the same boat and I decided to buy a Cermark Spin Right Spinner with adaptor nut for $25.00. Used a rat tail file and carefully cut the spinner to fit my Bambula 22x10 props. If you mark the spinner on each side and take off the same amount of material on each side of the spinner it will balance. The Spin Right aluminum is not as hard as the aluminum spinner that came with the PW and some what easier to file to size.

I was only messing you, hence the
at the end. My wallet and I find it amusing that full scale parts are cheaper than R/C.
Anyway, here are a couple of shots of what you get for $130.
On another note, does anybody else find that the covering keeps getting wrinkled? I have put my heat gun to the plane about 4 times now. It looks good for about 24 hours then goes back to the same wrinkly mess. The plane has not seen sunlight yet and it is kept in my basement which hovers around 68 F constant.
Thanks

I'm getting more particular about my covering job as I have gotten older, I'm giving serious though to going to glassing and painting my airplanes, even if it takes more effort, they will always look like they did when you finished them.

I find that people from Long Island have more money than brains. Just kidding, since I'm originally from Brentwood. Been in Florida since 1989.
Yes, my PW wrinkles up. Gave up with the ironing. Plane still flys great.
Spinner looks great and at least you put your Groodrich on the wings correctly. I put my on parallel to the ailerons. I went for the $100.00 vinyl graphics package that Chief put together. Talk about money and brains.

Has anyone thought about putting the counter balance/trim tabs (i think that's what they are called) on the elevators? I was thinking about putting them on mine, but was wondering if the performance would be worth the hastle of all the shaping?

when did he say it would ship, I was originally told end of november, then mid december, and then end of december, and now on friday they said mid january but in all likleyhood the end of january. I have started looking at other options for an engine now. I have been told my name is one of the top 15-20 people in other words one of the first to go out.
