for those who have already mounted your control horns.
the manual says to drill and only use the horn side of the mount and NOT to use the backplate.
i have always used the backplate for all control horns because its stronger than just screwing into the plywood.
also, the included hardware comes with the backplates for the horns.
so, what have you guys done and why??
thanks
tony

I think most guys are not using the backplate, or they are going to the local hardware store and purchasing longer screws. I installed rockcity hardware in my elavaters, but found my screws were to big for the ailerons. The clearence was to small between the wing and servo arm. I might just use the stock with longer screws for the back plate, unless flyers think just the horn is enough!

GUYS: I used the backplates with long screws and nuts on them with thin C/A on them. This is a great flying plane and with the big engines on them the screws shake loose if they are not tight and glued. Don't let a horn come loose and put you down the time you spend is worth it all. The plates don't help the looks but its better to be safe than sorry. The 3D puts lots of pressure on the horns on them large control surfaces. So kept that in mind as you put things together so you can get lots of flights out of your plane. I fly pattern and i have run this plane threw some wild stuff and its stayed together and tight so don't take short cuts take your time do it up right.
GOOD LUCK

****M.A.N. IS REVIEWING THE INSTALLATION OF THE WHEEL PANTS IN THIS MONTHS ISSUE AND WILL DO A COMPLETE REVIEW IN AN UPCOMING ISSUE****
WE WILL SEE HOW HONEST THEY ARE ABOUT THIS ONE.
-WING TUBE FIT
-PAINT MATCHING
ANYTHING ELSE WE SHOULD BE LOOKING FOR IN THE MISSES SECTION OF THE REVIEW.
FROM THE ARTICLE ON THE WHEEL PANTS IT LOOKS LIKE THEY WILL BE POWERING IT WITH SOME SORT OF GASSER.

Hi All.
I have looked at PATTY again today in LHS and they also have DP EXTRA 300L, does any of you have experience with both? Which should guy pick? PATTY for her colors or there is more to the way they fly.
I have weight DP EXTRA and it is 9.69 lb out of the box with all hardware as supplied.
Any input will be appreciated.
I will post this as a separate post.
Jack.

ready for this I just spent two hours gluing in the stab1 I took two string with T-pins and put it on straight and tight
2 leveled it to the ground and wing (look at it till my eyes went numb 5 foot to 10 foot front to back a few times) and I tack glued the front and back with CA.
3 Then I hung it from the nose (through the lighting holes)
4 Then I wondered
how the heck to get glue down there so I took off the gray piece of covering and looked down there and cut out one of the rudder servo holes (I don't know if I am going to use 2 or not yet)5 Then I took I deep breath...
6 I mixed up a whole lot of 30 min epoxy (half a mouth wash cup) and started to pour.....It started to come out of the gap so I grabbed a roll of paper towels and alcohol and wiped it a few times and looked down there with my trusty flash light to make sure it flowed everywhere and repeated it once on top(to get the other side) and on the bottom I poured in to the servo hole once for one side then for the other and OH MY GOD IT IS BEAUTIFUL!!! this gave me a great bond and a great fillet...

hello Hattend, I know you all of you are talking about the gp plane but I just got the w.m. 81"extra for xmas and it looks great also. A member of our club had one for a while and crashed it(not the planes fault)but it was a good flier and very light. I have a g-38 for it and hope it will be OK as it is what I have. Mine is the Patty colors also. mike

The reason we are all talking about the Great Planes Patty Wagstaff is that this is a GP Wagstaff thread. Sorry, I couldn't resist. All joking aside, nice plane that "world model Extra 300" good luck with it.

I centered my 8411 servos on patty last night, and man they really are noisy! My battery could have been low, i didnt check it. It makes a crackling sound. I think someone posted something similar, but I didnt find it. THese are my first set of digitals. What do you all think! THanks Bob!

for those that are having a hard time on how to mount the cover over the landing gear. i just drilled and taped a 1/4 20 wing bolt thur the center of the landing gear and a slightly larger hole thur the cover.

Here my 2 cents worth...
I used socket head screws to hold the gear down. I pressed the cover onto the bolts, hard enough to leave an impression in the balsa. Then I drilled out the impressions with the proper sized drill bit and monokoted it in place. Works like a charm. If I ever need to remove it all have have to do is cut at the seam.

I am reluctant to change my dad has been in this hobby all my life and most of his and he has told me that 6.0 volts are harder on the servo and thats one of those little voices that steer me away from going to 6.0 volts

i'am not an expert but the factory does have them rated at 6 volts so i wound'nt see any harm. i raced 1/8 nitro buggy for 4 years using digital servos and when the battery peack's they are usually at 7.5 volts thats using 1100 nimh dont know if theres a difference but never had a problem.

I just use white monokote to hold the landing gear cover on. I had a few harder than normal landings and had to remove the gear and cover a few times to straighten the aluminum. No problem with monokote.

You are quite right, however, I planned for that contingency. I used lockwashers and loctite on the screws, plus I torqued them pretty good with a tee handle hex wrench. That is a pretty good combination and seems to stay put. The 3W48B2 is very smooth too.
