The Red is just the color the program is set to use when stuff is selected. The picture was just the last one I posted in the Real Flight forums just to let people know I'm still alive and working on it. I'm planing on doing the Red and Blue one that SIG offers and may be Green and Yellow just for fun. The rest of the plane will not be transparent. Hummm a real stealth RC ?? Hummm
Elit95
Ya that will work. I just wanted something close, and not have any good picture to go off of I did not want to guess.
Here is a post in the thread with a few better pics

Junkboy999,
Just yanken on your chain a little dude
. I like all the colors.
Ron,
You are correct about all those improvements needed but I was thinking more on the lines of a more aerobatic Rascal 110. Longer Ailerons to make it a little more maneuverable, full symmetrical wing, and maybe a little sleaker body. Just a little change so the Rascal look is still there.

You are right Zippi .... that is a completely different direction from where I was going. That's because I'm an old fart and the Rascal is plenty maneuverable enough as it is for me. The guys at the club can't believe what I can do with it now.

Dang Zippi you have one nice bird featured on the RCU home page. Maybe some day this old geezer can pull that off.
On another note, as Brian Smith posted earlier, Sig no longer offers the covering so as the LHS sales their stock it will become unavialable from SIG. Not to worry. Sig does not make covering. They were being supplied by World Models. The film is called ToughLon and is available [link=http://www.airborne-models.com/html/productdetails.asp?ProductID=80]HERE.[/link] It can be ordered on line or by your LHS. They have plenty in stock.

Is this aircraft still in production? I checked at Tower Hobbies and placed a back order but it shows a date of late June. I have the feeling that Sig is going out of business. It would be an absolute shame. I have an OS 1.20AX with a pitts muffler ready to drop right in...
I tried to put this engine into the Aeroworks 1.20 Yak 54 but it was way too tail heavy. I tried to order a QQ 69" Yak 54 that was designed for this engine but they went out of business.
I hate the U-Can-Do series, and I am running out of options for this engine...quick, fast and in a hurry.
The 110 Rascal would be a good option for this combo because I plan to fly it like a trainer, and not like a 3D or Aerobatic aircraft. I have read the thread and it appears those who are having trouble keeping the engine box intact have forgotten this is a designed trainer. They are literally flying the tail, wings and engine box right off this bird with their 35 plus cc gassers...
Have a great day!!

The film is in. Should be ready soon. I also have the new A123 battery for the receiver. Hopefully everything will trim out OK without a matchbox on the ailerons or Flaps. I still have the stock ignition so I am limited to 2 flights before charging but I do have a new charger that works very well. I am sure I am getting deeper charges without over pumping the cells. I cycled them 3 times and they never even got more than slightly warm during charging.

I put her all together tonight and started checking things out.
1. CG was 1 inch to far back so I moved the ignition battery from its location aft of the cockpit to the nose sitting on top of the hatch I added to the bottom of the fuselage just behind the firewall. CG balanced at 4.5 inches.
2. Checked dry weight. Weight increased from 14.6 pounds to 16.4 pounds.
3. Checked all the controls. All were fine.
4. Test ran the engine. I had a very hard time starting the engine. I started cracking the throttle open one click at a time and it finally started when the throttle was about 1/3 open. However as soon as I closed the throttle even a little she wanted to die. I pondered a bit then realized what the issue was. I had traded my 800 mah 4.8v stock DX7 receiver battery for a 6.6v 1100mah A123 battery. The servo had so much more torque that it was able to close the butterfly at 1/3 throttle. I reset my sub trim, throttle open and throttle closed % and she ran better than ever. The servos are much more responsive and crisp at 6.6v. As soon as I come off of full throttle the rpms start to drop. I still have a cheesy servo on the throttle which I will replace soon.

I knew it would get heavier with the addition of 2 servos, linkages, all the balsa reinforcing that was added to support the flap hinging and the flaps theirselves. I removed some light balsa to make room then added a lot of balsa. I also replaced the whimpy reciever battery with the 1100mah A123 battery. It is actually more like 1 lb 8 ounces. I know I will sacrifice some verticle climb but that is not a real issue for me since I'm no hot shot Zippi-do-da pilot. I am looking to do slow fly bys down the field at walking speed with power on.

Well, I don't think I fit in that catagory of a hot-shot-pilot either Ron. When you see Eric fly a Rascal it looks so good with those slow knive edge passes at walking speed. I guess in our own minds we're all hot-shot-pilots in one way or another. As long as we have fun doing what it is we do well it's satisfying.

I have watched Eric's video several times and it is truly awesome. I have spent many hours on the simulator praticing knife edges and it is getting easier but I am a long way from Eric. Maybe when I have one of [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8507973/anchors_8507973/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#8507973]these[/link]

What a difference the flaps made. Flew her for 2 hours along with several club members and they were all amazed at how well she flew. Even with the added weight there were no performance issues. She never flew better...... well until I applied too much power on takeoff and she torqued rolled hard to the right when she broke ground and now she is no more. I will miss her.

I thought it was history at first but when I looked closer things were just sheared off rather clean and looks like it will go back together.; She flew better than ever acording to all the guys that flew her yesterday. We got over 2 hours in. I have to admit it was all my screw up. There was nothing wrong with the plane at all. Just me. Anyone want to loan me their Rascal to test? I have a pretty rigourious testing program.

Hey King,
just read your post and saw the pics you posted, man, i am so sorry to see that happen. I was looking forward to seeing it fly with the flaps you constructed......looked awesome!!! well it looks like it is not a total loss. I have been checking with SIG looking for spare parts: windshields, cowlings, struts, wheel pants, and wings, and they are out of alot of replacement parts. here in Bowling Green, we have been needing spare parts for some time now. I have been working on a new SKUNK WORKS RASCAL....haha and am in need of parts from SIG.
hopefully we can have a gathering of Rascals some time this year to get them all together.
and again, guys, thanks for the compliments on the video.

I just got back after having a review with the club safety officer and the 2 primary instructors. They were all there at the field and saw what happened. We reached a concenses that the cause was pilot error. Well I knew that. We had a gusty wind blowing directly across the field. It was blowing from east to west. I was taking off towards the south. I failed to hold the left wing down and as the plane left the ground a strong gust got under the left wing rolling her up on the right wing tip and turning her directly down wind. At that point I had near 0 airspeed with the wind at my tail and lost all lift and control. The rest is history. To add salt to the wound the wind sock pole was directly in my flight path and that is what did the most damage.

I spent most of the day at the field today and took my Rascal 110 with me. Man it felt good to get this plane out and get it in the air once again. Engine is running great and all went well. It was a little windy today and a cross wind at that but all in all a pretty nice day of flying. I went back to the XOAR 18X6 prop as the rpm (9700) were a little higher than I wanted with the 17X6 APC.

sounds like you had a great day. The wings are back together on the rascal. Fuselage repairs started tonight. I am still covering the AMR 50Trainer.
