Speaking of schools, I would like to get more people involved in what I'm doing...

Almost all school districts have Adult Evening Courses. Starting next Sept I will be co-instructor for a course in RC Planes. The fee will cover a year of AMA and then they must come up with additional monies for an engine, radio, and Kit (Or they may bring these items from home if they already have usable equipment).

During the Winter, they will build a trainer with our help, and spend time on a sim. Once Spring arrives, we will buddy box them to solo.

Also, we are advertising it as a great Father/son endeavor

Bill, please don't get me wrong i think it is great schools are doing things like this and i think that the teacher involved deserves a medal for what he is doing especially since he has been pulling money out of his own back pocket. I guess I'm more confused as to why the school are not funding this class as i think they should be the pif thread is showing there are still generous people still around that will go the extra mile to help someone. I really hope i have not offended anyone in questioning this. I just feel the school should be helping this teacher in his endeavor and supporting his class financially instead of him having to spend his own money.
anyway i'm sorry i questioned this. I'm not trying to pull the fabric of the pif thread apart by the seams as i think it is good thing.
sorry
paul

Thanks Bubba, but rather than donate funds, maybe you could get some of your club members to donate one night a week to a similar project in your area.

Paul,

There is no reason to be sorry. I really do not believe your ruffled any feathers

The beauty of it all is we all have and are allowed our own ideas and opinions. I agree that schools should be better funded and that is a subject that we will not even debate here. My soon to be wife (I call here my wife) worked as a teacher for a while and her hands were tied in a lot of ways and to take the daily abuse of a bunch of 13 -15 yr olds and not being able to do anything about it for fear of lawsuits was just plain to much for her. She spent a ton of here own money on supplies and thank god for Staples giving teachers a break on school supplies.

So she became a nurse in an ER. She has no interst in this hobby/sport but has taken the time to read the PIF thread and it floors her to see all of the generosity that is still out there and she was even more surprised that I was involved in it. She thought I was sitting here just goofing off (little does she know ) She did try it and wanted to help me in my IMAC practice and possibly call for my at competition but it was not for her.

Now if I can only get her to come to Toledo with me, nah, she would be bored and I would have to do the couple thing instead of oh'ing and ah'ing over then newest toys, err airplanes that will be there.

Bubba, we could always send her out shopping for the day with MY wife. Just give them the credit cards and....

Wait a minute... what am I SAYING! [X(]

BTW to elaborate a little more on the school thing... Most of the school systems are BEGGING for people to hold evening classes and even more so if they are for something unique and interesting (They can only do so many "Fondue" classes LOL)

Minn,

How dare you suggest that we give up our cards so they can go shopping. I'm gonna get Nathan to hold you down and pour beer down your throat, no wait a minute, you might like that. I'll figure something out.

Anyway, she has a wierd schedule and she is new to the hospital she works at so getting off for 4 or 5 days may be an issue.

OK everyone, I have a request...it's really simple and may help make someone feel better. It will not cost a penny and could be fun. Paul has PM'd me to tell me how sorry he was for stating what he said about schools and suggested that a package I sent to him be cancelled and returned.

He is going through some pretty tough times as an EMT and he needs our help.

If I get in trouble for this request then so be it. I feel it's more than worth the effort

I for one was not even in the slightest offended by his opinion on our schools. I think we should all PM him and tell him it's fine and if he says he is sorry for his opinion once more we will track him down and slap him silly. If you think I was coming off as harsh for my response to his post or seemed overly cruel then feel free to slap me silly

Wadda ya think??? I bow in respect to all of the RCU members, all four of me.

Honestly... there is nothing to be sorry about. From what I know about schools in my area, there is a shortage in funds for many things... think I know I had when I was in school such as Drama, Band, etc. These line items on the school system budget are being cut left and right and can only survive through the generocity of the teachers, and hard pushing fund raisers. I know high school and middle school students in my area must pay tuition for extra curricular classes to just be able to take them... such as Shop, Home Ecc, etc... this tuition rarely covers materials either.

Given knowing this about my area... I just feel it wouldn't be fair not to mention it as it definately makes a mark on my opinion over the issue. So to Paul: Your opinion is one I support completely... but the sad truth is that the budget can be too thin at times to be able to plan for these kinds of things. Sad, but true []. I honor your opinion though Paul... and moreso, I stand behind your right to have it. Forums are all about sharing these kinds of things .

On a side note...

Keepiru and I some time back made a trade for one of his unused older airframes for some old electronics. I am near finished on the rebuild and covering of the Tiger 2... so I'll post a few pictures soon.

Hello all,
I was digging in my pocket earlier and found an extra two cents so here it is. Those of us that still have school age children know how badly the schools need money. They are cutting every corner they can just to continue to pay the teachers they haven't laid off. The elementary schools in my area charge me a $75.00 fee for book rental per child, per year. Does it really cost $75 for my child to use a book for a year? NO. Do I question why they need my money? NO! As long as my kids come home each day smarter than they were when they left in the morning I would pay $75 a month.(If I could)

I think what this thread (PIF) is all about is helping people without question. That a teacher should need help is no surprise to me. We pay the wrong people huge amounts of money (see anyone in Hollywood). Teachers and the military should be making that kind of money.

I needed help and someone came through.( Thanks again Bill.) Do I teach kids? No. I am however a Cubmaster in our local Cub Scout Pack and when I have taught my own kids how to fly, I will teach my Scouts to fly. If I need help with anything I will come here (PIF) secure in the knowledge that there are still people out there willing to help a person in need.

Paul, don't feel bad about having an opinion. Definitely don't feel bad about voicing that opinion. Lots of us have fought to defend your right to voice your opinion.

OK! That's my two cents and then some.

I am also the kind of person that doesn't like to ask for much. Although I used to be like that, I have really found the meaning of a dollar. It used to be where I would spend that money just about the second I got it. It just kept burning a whole in my pocket. Since I'm 16 and school is more important than work, I only started working in the summer cutting grass. I made alot of money doing that though. But, now I don't want to spend any money.

That's beside the point. It's always good to have nice people at the field who will, for use of a better word, "give" you something. Like I'm about to get a gallon of fuel from someone so I can try it out. It's 30% and I've been using 15% now. But it's just that I'm getting that and that will save me a gallon of fuel. I really need this though. With all that money I saved, I bought a Raptor 30 helicopter. Got a good deal but then got a Funtana 40 and spent the remainding $900 on that. I only have about $30 left now. But it is very nice to get things from people. I hate to ask for things, like I said, but if you really need it, then you will do anything, especially when you are wanting to get involved with this hobby. I really got off topic there for a while, and I'm sorry for that but just had to say something.

I'm trying to make it with the money I have left on me. $40 like I said to my name. But I manage well.

I love this thread, and I'm so happy to see that alot of people are getting helped out in a great way by many generous people. I'm very glad that I found this forum and I don't know what I'd do if I didn't. (I guess we'll never find out huh??)

Thanks alot
~Michael Carr~

No really, I don't think I need anything right now. I only have another engine mount (for a Satio 100) on the Funtana and a big 6.0v battery for that.

But see, things like that, I'm just thinking that I can save up for that for a while, and get it at the LHS. I think it would be too much of a problem to ship something that small, like a battery or something. Even if the person recieving was paying shipping and everything....I dunno. I think I know of a good place to get batteries so I'm not worried about that.

Like I said, I don't really need NEED anything, but if I run into where I don't have much mula and I do need something, then I certainly know where to find the kind people to get that product.

Again, I love this forum and I appreciate everything that you others are doing to help anyone you can.

Hello...J3FAN HERE AGAIN...
to post a heads up for those of us who intend to ship their donations across the country. I suggest now that you CAREFULLY EVALUATE the worth of what you are shipping with the COST of packing and shipping and insuring.
The cost of all those items to ship a whole plane+radio was so ridiculously higher than the cost of the items themselves (used plane + used radio) that I cancelled the whole project.
It was cheaper to place an order for a TRAINER with TOWER HOBBIES. And I even got a $30 rebate on the whole deal. My PAY IT FORWARD is supposed to arrive in NYC on FEB 28
Mark it PAID.
I got caught by HIGH COST. Don't let it happen to you.

I actually was not being sarcastic and I am sorry if I made it seem that way. No one has recently just posted to this thread just to compliment on what it is trying to do and I was trying to show you my appreciation of the nice comments you made.

Again, please accept my sincerest apologies and thank you

EDITEd for really bad speeling on my part YUK

Well, thank you very much for the compliment.

I just had to say that because I am really excited to see something like that this that people help others that are in need of plane products. (for use of a better word)

Luckily, I was able to have my parents get me a Hobbico Superstar for Christmas and I thought that was the greatest thing in the world. I didn't think they would be able to afford that but I guess they proved me wrong.

I know many people at the field that are more than willing to give their time and money well spent to help me out. They will give me a prop here and there, or just little things. But that really means alot when they volunteer to do those things.

I know that if I could, I would help anyone I could. Right now, I can't really give (again, for use of a better word) anything away because I'm trying to stay on my own too. I do have a Futaba Skysport lying around and I don't know what I'm going to do with it. But I'd hate to have to give that to someone and then I might need it. But we all take stuff for granted and I know that there are hundreds of others that would love to get into this hobby but just can't afford to. But something like this really helps out those kinds of people. They may have a child, family, and just can't get out to buy anything or just don't have the extra money. Luckily I'm only 16 so I don't have a mortage (sp?) to pay or a family to feed, which will always come first in my book when I get older, but I know that when I get older and I have that extra money to spend, and I have something lying around that I"m not using, I AM going to give it to that person that always wanted to get involved.

I am reminded of a young guy, John Lodge, that was in one of the write to the editors in one of the issues of Model Aviation. He was saying that from a low income family, and to get involved it would be over $400 for a nitro plane, and his family just didn't have that kind of money to spend. But if I do recal, some people got together, and he eventually, was given all the things he would need to have a successful "career" in R/C flying.

I sincerly am so happy to see something like this going on in a forum with over 150,00 (that's incredible) member. If you are in need of something, then you just ask, and the gracious people are MORE THAN WILLING to let you have something to help you out.

Again, it's nice to see something like that, and I'm happy to see that going on.

I'm very sorry that I typed so much. I really just got carried away. But just remember that THERE ARE GOOD PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD!!

My first flight lasted about 15 to 20 seconds and I was headed straight down then I handed the controls back to Bill and he pulled it out of the death dive I had put it in and landed the LT. My rudder came lose but my plane is in one piece. The Saito 56 perred like a kitten, started easy as pie and sounded better that any plane there except for one the name started with an M and was a 1.36cc Futana airplane but at the end of the day mine sounded better than his because he nosed into the ground and another beginner flew his Alpha 40 into the trees it went in in one piece and came back in about 100 pieces. I still don't have my BUDDY BOX it'll be March 1st but I'm going back tommorrow and Bill's gonna bring his buddy box so I'll have a longer flight time tommorrow.
