E-FLIGHT BLADE CP
#3351

I just purchased a Blade CP after months of reading forums and looking for info on the net.
From all you experienced fliers out there, what are the very First things I should do once I open up the box to make sure the heli is good for flight and everything is checked out.

The first thing is to learn your controls and how they effect the heli. Run the heli up only a little bit. If it is starting to get airborne, that is too much throttle. I guy once wrote, "...if at any point you are not in control of your aircraft, something is wrong." I try to keep to that motto. If I am not in control while I am on the ground, I throttle down, and start over. Boring way to start, but it save you money. I will admit though that I didn't originally follow this. When I got my heli, it was dark out and I still wanted to see it fly so I hurriedly set it up and went outside near the porch light and started running the it up. When it got airborne I lost it in the shadows for a split second. I quickly found it again when I realized it was flying straight at my head. [X(] After the crash, the shallow cut on my arm, and broken blades later, I lamely walked back inside to hear nothing but laughter from my supporters.
Sigh. But I tell you what, I would probably do it again. Go figure.

Yeah I will be taking it nice and slow learning to fly, following Radds technique.
I am a bit more interested in what, in terms of mechanically, should I first do right out of the box in terms of making sure everything is right and adjusted properly. Things to check over, tighten, etc...
Thanks for all the input!

what i did when i got it is plugged it in made sure it worked before i messed with anything ,
then check the blades and tighten if need be and check all the links just incase one popped off
then check and see how your gear mesh is , slowley run up the heli checking the tail and motor ( no need for full speed ) do this to check for any burrs my main gear had 3
charge your battery
then balence everything and learn to fly

Thanks guys for the positive feed back on the video. My wife does a much better job than I do, BTW thats Jimmy Buffet, he rocks, it kind of makes you want to chill out with a nice Margarita and a hammock
I know this is off of the topic but I thought you guys might like to see a video of a foamy Yak 54 that I designed. This is how I learned to hover

Ok thanks.
I havn't really gotten if off the ground too long (it still needs a lot of adjusting). But I finally destroyed the blades. I on accident hit the Idle Up and it all went downhill from there.
I think it's about time to invest in some plastic or carbon fiber blades.
-Josh
P.S. I'm kinda dissapointed in the short fly times. What size batteries work good in the BCP? Or should I just invest in a couple of spare stock ones?

I have noticed since i wire up my lights with the magnet wire it have had absolutley NO glitches what so ever and i used to get some on a flight by flight basis ,
i wonder if it is cause that i wrapped magnet wire around my boom like i did the antenna for the back LED
i dont know why but its cool
and im getting better at hovering to YAY for me

I am off subject but chose this forum because it is active and remotely related.
Something was spilled on my Real flight G3 disk case and the serial number was corrupted. The number appears in three segments separated by two dashes. The last segment is the problem.
I can now read only eight didgets in that segment. I would appreciate it greatly is someone will take the time to look at your serial number and let me know how many didgets are supposed to be there. With that information I could complete it by trial and error.
Thanks for any help.

I hate myself for buying my heli spontaneously, doing no research, and then trying to fly it the same way with absolutely no experience. I destroyed the stock blades, then messed up the carbon fiber's I bought, and then snapped my boom; all along with a few sets of skids. Oh, and I never came close to having a bit of control over it.
Now I read all of this stuff and it makes me sick, I don't even have the time to read everything I see here. Has anyone thought about making a single post or better yet a sticky thread with all of the information deemed useful for newbies? There is so much I need to do to my heli to get it flying and then so much I need to learn to keep it that way; assuming I can ever even learn how to fly it. It's a bit overwhelming honestly. I do see that some people are catching on, that's great!
My friend bought the CP2 and i'm a bit pissed at that as well, he spent about $100 less than me right out of the box, and he has a much better heli so it seems! So now on top of everything I need to get my heli back up (basically the whole kit w/o electronics) I need to upgrade my bell hiller, battery(s), etc! I don't even know what a bell hiller is! I believe it to be the part of the heli that the right-side stick controls, but even with that I feel so overwhelmed and lost in information.

I would assume it would beat me spending $80-90 on the barebone kit though, right?! I could spend $70 and still get everything I need, and hopefully it would last longer.

@stonefacts
maybe you have the same problem as me....
the blade is my first heli, i trained in the sim (afpd) then tried to fly it in real - didn't work
this went on for nearly half a year - just keeping in mind that the blade is set up properly out of the box.
a few weeks ago (frustration level very high) i took a close look at the swash-plate - it seemed tilted to the right.
i re-adjusted it in a way i would see as apropriate (flying normal rc-planes) started it up and IT FLIES!
so if you (or a trained person) have problems flying the blade cp - maybe it isn't set up properly.

My Feedback: (1)
I was trying to learn to fly on the Blade and VNR3D, then bought a used Nexus nitro heli (30 size), and I couldn't beleive how easy the Nexus is to hover and fly. The larger nitro heli feels just like the heli's on the simulator, while I still havn't been able to fly the BCP around yet, it's alot harder to fly than the 30 size nitro bird. After you get over the size and the noise, ya find that the Micro's are a pain in the butt to control by comparision...

So two nights ago I went brushless on the main motor. WOW!!!! It is amazing how much more power it had. Lift off at half stick! With the extra power and the extra weight, it seemed to almost float, with instant response to the sticks. Still needed to correct here and there a little… But it practically flew itself. And after 15 minutes the main motor was just a little warm.
And yes, I spent a fortune to clone a $200 Micro Heli with after-market metal upgrades. But what a learning experience! And I’ve got what I think is a really fine helicopter to compliment my empty bank account.

Sounds like your Blade CP rocks !!! I've been eyeballin that dual motor setup, but im going to see how it does with the harness first. Yeah, they don't give those fancy parts away, that's for sure. LOL

The dual tail motor upgrade is cheap. Mine came with the aluminum frame. But as a single purchase, with all needed parts it's about the price of a new set blades. Well, two sets maybe. But I think it is worth it. One less thing to worry about.
