First try to upload images. Hopefully it works.
The fuz starting to take shape in the background and my stab template for cutting lightening holes in the foreground.
Something to watch out for is that the 4 5/8" measurement at the root for determining the elevator is wrong. It should be 4 3/8" (The tip measurement of 3.25" is correct). If you use this measurement as a reference line (as I did) without checking it your wing tube will not be at 90deg to the root face and you will need to do some serious work to align the stab halves.

Thanks Pete,
It feels like it is coming together (slowly). I'm thinking of calling it a Black Magic VFME because of all the thought I've put into it [8D]
I'm mulling over how to do the stab/wing tube. I started with the stabs because I felt it might be easier. My plan is to drill a hole with a brass tube. I've already done a test hole on a piece of scrape and the size is perfect. My only problem now is how to jig the tube so that the hole is down the center of the stab and at 90deg to the root.
My current plan is to drill a hole through a 2" block of pine with a drill press and carefully position it on the stab root. The 2" long hole should maintain directional stability of the brass tube. Aligning the block square to the stab root is however still a concern.
Any ideas from the bofs?

Apologies for the low tech approach. Would have liked to use a wider block of wood but by placing it on the shuck at an angle I seem to have achieved an acceptable result. The cutting tube is made from the tailboom of a small electric heli.

Slow progress. Here is the 'just finished' front turtle deck and a slightly trimmed and cleaned up version. Still a lot of work.
I've set the false ribs in the stabs and created the stab sheeting. Hope to cut the lightening holes and sheet the stabs asap. Then start on the wings.
I need the wings and the stabs sheeted so that I can fit and align them on the fuz so that I can glue the wing & stab tubes in place so that I can carry on with the fuz!
Here you go Pete. A good South African Shiraz from our Robertson region near Cape Town. Around $8 in a retail store. www.zandvliet.co.za. (Sold in US under the export label "Astonvale" on http://african-tradition.com/wine/index.php for $16. - NO, I don't get commission!)

Looks good, you have a lot more patience that I do given your plank sheeting on the nose. I did all my Black Magics with 3 pieces of 1/8" that I wet down to bend over the radius.
Shiraz is always good when I run out of Cabernet. I wonder if that label is available in the States?

I have the wings covered.....FINALLY....stabs are next. I need to thank my friend Buddy for the tips on covering. My covering SUCKS but Buddy came over and gave me a few quick pointers and these wings came out nice.
It would be nice if work would lighten up. If this keeps up I swear I'm going to have to just stick a fork in any chance of flying this year.

I've updated my previous post with US supplier details if you run out of Cab. Foam stabs with half ribs are 20g (.7oz) a piece. The sheeting, cut to size, is another 20g per side. Foam stabs sheeted, trimmed with lightening holes and glue should come in around 80grams (2.90z) My projections show that my batteries will be hard up against the firewall. I need to lighten the tail as much as possible to try to move the packs back. Where is your battery tray located?

I'm sure we'll be able to find many other blemishes
