gas fuel with glo plug no ignition

The diesel boosted with a glow plug or hot spot element was tried but hasn't been fully explored and hasn't worked out yet. But we've been enjoying our normal winter weather for the last three or four months so very little testing has been done till just this weekend.
Here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6fuW-L4ZQs is a stock gasser conversion. This is being used as a bench mark to get some stock performance numbers. Not yet fully broken in, just has about 20 ounces of fuel through it.
Kero and methanol? Maybe. No doubt I'll be trying all sorts of weird mixes. With a gasser conversion we don't have rod failure issues to worry about.

Hey guys
i am new to gassers, new to rcu and new to planes...
Yesterday I started converting an 18cc weedy and found this thread
i have been working on a light weight ignition.....thinkin 'bout scrapin' that idea
So i'm reading through 5 years of your experiments and can't wait to see where it ends up...ok I skipped to the end and peeked!
But right now Im on maybe page 15 or so..and thinkin 50/50 methanol/gas 40-1 mix with constant glow....
Youins be some innovative fellers
Any tips on the 18 would be nice..like do I need the plastic thingy between carb and head?

Roosterlew,
The plastic insert is there to isolate the carb from the heat of the cylinder. This isn't a problem on a standard, model engine because the carb is mounted to the much cooler crankcase.
An 18cc with everything possible stripped off of it might make a neat, reasonably light engine. What brand? Can you supply pictures as you affect the conversion? How about posting a clip to YouTube with your results?

Ohh , and this thread started with a weedy 18, and there was at least one more built in here.
I get the 1/3 - 10/10 glow fuel 2/3 - High octane gas , but I am learning way to much reading how you guys got there!
Maybe I'll discover why 18 too small...But I got a boring bar and spacers are easily built!

Get the Great Planes Giant Big Stik. It's good for anything from a 22cc up to about 45cc. I have a Poulan 42cc on Gas/Glow in mine. It rolls about 15 or 20 feet on take off, and then will climb vertically. (And that's with an 8" pitch prop!!)
I built mine with the flaps, but later took out the flap servos and joined the flaps to the ailerons for more roll response. (I like a really fast roll rate.) Besides, it lands very slowly and hardly needs flaps. We were flying the other day in a 10 to 15 knot wind, and it was landing like a helicopter!

AV8TOR,
Thanks for the lead on a Big Stik. That gives me specs to shoot for. I've got the original RCM plans and will likely blow them up to size. The GP Stik looks perfect for the Poulan but 13 lbs on the 26 will leave me wanting. I like vertical a lot, so may make mine 70" span or so and keep it under 10 lbs.
Also, the original had a bit of dihedral. I've flown both with and without in the standard size and the bend in the wing I find a bit more flyer friendly. Just me. I guess I need all the help I can get. [:@]

In that case, take a look at the Ultra Lite Stick 120 by Hangar 9. It has the specs you're looking for. I had one of those with a Homelite 25cc on it and it flew very nicely. It is very slightly better at aerobatics than the Giant Stik, or at least I thought so until I got the Giant Stik more dialed in and I got used to it....

Did anyone try to put gas-glow on Seagull Harrier 3D .90 ARF. I have one in the box waiting for my time and I wonder if converted Poulan 25cc will fit.

AV8TOR,
Thanks again, the UltraStik looks exactly right. Wish they had plans available for it though. I've got a lifetime supply of balsa, ply, wire, wheels tanks etc. etc. Crazy thing is, the price of the ready built is damn near the cost of the materials.[X(]

That's true! Say what they will against the ARF's; the price is right, the quality is generally very good, and it enables me to own/fly far more airplanes than I have the time to built from a kit!!
Take a look at www.nitroplanes.com as well. Lousy instructions generally, but decent planes at very good prices. Product support is fair to good in my experience with them.
Have fun,

I have a plan of the original ugly stick in cad that I have increased to 80" wingspan.... not for the novice builder but an easy job for an intermediate builder..... I will post here on Monday if interested...

I have a Birdi Old Timer I'm putting together.
I believe I'll do it as a Folker EIII, with out wing warping.
It has a 82 1/2" wing spand, I'll need decals, where canI find them?
This is what I want it to look like.
Any Suggestions?

buy some banner vinyl and you can custom make your insignias with an e-xacto knife, its very easy, you can even cover the whole plane with it!!!!
