TKG: I do not know how long ago you tried to get 1000 engines, but the way the economy and the comptiion is getting, I think they may be mood to sell now. Have you tried latlely?

Regarding running a mag, in your opinion, is it reasonable to expect an engine to start well enough on a magnito ignition to not bother with the more costly option? In other words, does the electronic make that much difference? I'm not being sarcastic. I just simply don't know because I'm running a mag and hav'nt had that much success as of yet cause I'm new to this whole whacker thing.

MOST of the time you can't start a new weedie on the mag by hand, due to a combo of low compression and not enough RPM to fire the mag.
HOWEVER MOST of the weedies CAN be started on the mag with a standard HD model starter if you use a larger battery, say like a garden tractor battery.
Even with a battery powered ignition some new weedies won't start by hand because of low compression.
After breakin they are fine and more of the mag weedies can be made to hand start with breakin and pratice.

Does any one have a schematic for the circuit and placement of the components? I have looked at a couple of sites but the quality of the drawings wasn't great.

If you are building one for the challenge then ok.
If you just need one, Ralph Cunningham ( RC Ignitions) will supply a well proven one at a very competitive price.

To Ken Lambert:

Hey, could you explain how to attach the standar coil form a trimmer to C&H or other CDI ignition system??
Your pic at post N°67 looks nice.. I wonder if the coils offered by Jerry Howell or C&H would be smaller and lighter.

Rodolfo.

According to those who build CD ignitions, the Modelectric coil is not suitable for CD ignition, but the CH unit is ideal.

Totolazo You will have to send me your EMail address as this forum will not support bitmap images and the document you requested are in bitmap format.I should then be able to send them to you via email. To anyone else needing Tim 6 schematics please send email address or tell me how to convert these documents from bitmap. As I stated earlier I get a message saying this site does'nt support bitmap images. Thanks

To convert from bitmap to .jpg:

Open your picture in the Windows "Paint" program. (Open "Paint" in your "Accessories" from your Programs menu. Then click file, open, and select your picture from wherever you have it stored.)

Once you have your picture open in "Paint", click "file", then "save as". The box underneath the box where you put a file name has an arrow alongside it. Click on this arrow, and then click on ".jpg". Give your file a new name if you want, and click save. You will then have the pic converted and saved as a .jpg.

This will work in other photo programs as well, but everyone has "Paint"!!

Hope this makes sense and helps,
AV8TOR

O.K.
let´s see:
The bottom end about my questions are:
Tim -6 will work either on PE or S modelectric coils. But CDI ignitions, as CH and Pro Spark will not.
So If I order a TIM-6 for a Ryobi, homelite or whatever gas I have..or will have... what coil should I select: I guess the "S" type in the Jerry Howell on line catalog. Right???

And I still without know what items exactly contains the tim-6 kit.
I think I will need the kit, the coil, the magneto and hall sensor, all as separated item or the includes some of them???
Thanks for the answers.

Tato Lazo.

You should note that the suppliers of the ignition you are talking about do not fully guarantee ( printed clearly on their site) the use of their products on chainsaws & trimmer type engines etc. and say that you are on your own if you do.

CD type ignitions are well known to be suitable for these applications, and there are at least two American companies offering these, (mentioned earlier on this thread), which are reliable and reasonably priced, ( a little more expensive if you buy the electronic advance unit, - not always necessary).

Tato I've been down the road your getting on and believe me I don't have affiliation with any ignition producer.Unless you have a lot more luck than me you'll end up being frutrated with the Tim 6 for your gasser.I could'nt keep mine running over 5 min and the batt would be dead and if that's not enough after changing to higher capacity 1300 mh. pack the ign. coil blew out both ends. This was a brand new modeleletric coil and firing it with hall effect so dwell was about 65 deg.Who knows maybe you'll do better & if you do please let me know as i still have that system and would in a heart beat use it if the bug's could be ironed out.P.S. I guess I could have recieved a defective coil it would about be my luck anyway's let me know how you do.

TATOLAZO,
RAMBO is correct, and I do not have any affiliation with any of these companies either. - (I don't even live in the same country), but I don't want to see you wasting your money on something which not really suitable for the job.

Depends what you use it for.
Probably works very well on model stationary engines etc. but it must have some problem on high revving two strokes, hence no guarantees for these.

Looks like Capacitor Discharge type ignition uses much less power.

No doubt someone will be able to come up with a more comprehensive answer.

OOOOps.!!!
I thought that TIM-6 was the answer to the dream 0f the gassers at the club.

I`m trying to contact Roy Sholl to ask for one of their system. Check the reply Nª150.
Hope to find a system to use soon.

Tato Lazo.

P.S. It seems that the problem is the coil. What about to use the same coil that comes with the engine, As I saw one attached to a ignition system. Would try to post a picture.
