Smaller diameter prop is not a problem, have you considered a 3 blade for your Monocoupe? How much will your Monocoupe weigh?

I have that one it is the tiny one. And what about the hub?? Is that as important as the prop itself? Should I get the one you mount to the table? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXD712&P=7

Eric the hub ballence is as improtant as the blades. This link is a good one if it worked. http://www.dodvideos.com/don3.wmv

You have the right idea. 1:00 and 7:00 3:00 and 9:00. Then see if it will stay in any position.

Down on the Deck's website is no longer up, I've been trying to find an equivalent instructional video but I haven't found one yet.

Eric, the link you posted for the Du-Bro Tru Spin balancer is the one you want to use, it works the best for the larger props. I think the hub balance is important to do also, not as important as the tips but should be done if possible. I'll post something if I can find it.

Heres a little trick I picked up from a fellow flyer,(THANKS STEVE) Balance the tips first, either by sanding the inside of the blade or adding some clear coat or paint to the lite end. Then if the hubs off, cut a piece of self sticking velcro about 1/2x1/2 square and add that to the lite side of the hub, then add med CA and accelerator as needed to get the hub to balance. If more is needed just peel it off and go with a larger piece of velcro. This works great for a plane with a spinner that hides the weight. Not that it looks that bad to start with.

Jody, thanks. I expect flying weight to be 14-15lbs. I'll try 20x12.

FYI, I used to be a fan of hub balancing. Until I started seeing the hubs develop cracks on the side I glued the velcro or 5 min Epoxy on. Also that side sinks and then you have a non-level surface for the prop washer and bolts to sit on. Not good. It's happened to 3 props now and they all had the glue on one side of the hub. The props that didn't have their hubs balanced didn't do this. My theory is that on a non-balanced/non-glued hub, the hub compresses evenly and no cracks appear and no sinking (the sinking happens from the cracking). The ones that have been balanced, the glued side of the hub is harder and doesn't compress as well as the non-glued side. I'm almost 100% sure this is why. So now I shy away from balancing hubs. If it's that far off I'd prefer to not use it. None of my Xoars have been that far off on the tips or hubs. In fact I bet I really didn't need top balance any of them, it's just kind of fun. The tips will always be balanced though. I have the balancers and I just spray clear luster coat on the light tip. It's so friggen easy. The hubs probably not any more. Just thought I share my experience.

Just out of curiosity.... I have heard several folks say that their DL50's really woke up after X amount of gallons-anyone have personal experience with this and like to share? Thanks!

Hi all I own a DL50 that I have installed in my EF Extra 300 88" and I´m very happy with the engine, so happy that I got two new DL50's for my Ziroli P38, I already have the plans and all the glass parts and I´m waiting for the wood that should be here next week, my question is, can I modify one of the engines to have counter rotating engines in my P38? is this posible? Has any one made this modification?

Thanks in advance

Hummmmmmmm well I thought thats why you used the velco so you didnt get any glue on the prop hub ????? the sticky on the velco is very compressable, and untill I see something thats better I'll keep doing it.

Tips of wooden prop: polyurethane spray.

Hub:
Small unbalance: medium/thick CA w/ accelerator
Medium unbalance: 30 minute Epoxy
High unbalance: Epoxy w/ micro-balloons

Works fine as well. The CA accelerator used on Velcro+CA will vaporize over time causing a small unbalance and Velcro is adhesive for dirt and moisture.

That is not a phenomena limited to the DL-motors. Any motor will increase in power when broken in properly. Yes, I can assure you my DL keeps improving with every flight I put on her.

It's more gradual for me too. I always tune them well right out of the box so I get good power right away. I don't really see it "wake up" since I tune them all the while it's breaking in. They probably are not tuning them well soon enough.

Me too Joe, my engines never seem to have a noticeable power increase.....But then again, the engines I run seem to have round cylinders and rings.

Without any doubt the motor will run better and better the more gas has run thru it. All moving parts free up, thus less friction.

This should be possible without to much trouble, 2 stroke engines really don't even know which way they are turning. All that really needs to be done is to relocate the sensor to achieve the required 28-30 degrees BTDC ignition timing while turning the other direction.

Well, I finally finished the rebuild of my crashed Extra 300 and have re-installed the DL50. The rebuild turned into a very lengthy project but I am happy with the results, but that's another story. Re the DL, it started almost immediately after sitting all winter and it needed virtually no tuning-love that engine.

Here are a couple of photos of the end result and my DL setup. (I'm hooked or red, white and blue planes).
