I have a DL-50 in a GP Cap 232. Easy start engine and great power. I have about 1 gallon through the engine so far.
I have a 2 line fuel system with the tank on the CG. The only problem I have is when I start the engine, then bring
it down to idle 1900 rpm. When I pick up the plane move it out of the starting cradle, if I incline the plane more than 30
deg nose up the engine quits. In the air the engine runs great at idle doing high alpha. No dead sticks so far.
Anyone have any ideas on what may cause the engine to quit.

I have put some graphics together and had some vinyls cut for my plane. I have attached jpg's of my designs. In the end I used the plain red one because it was the easiest for me to apply.
I have zipped them and placed them on the web

I did the translation for the Chinese lettering using Google since I do not know Chinese at all. It is supposed to say power, but somebody let me know that is may say electric.
Cheers

Very nice. I bought mine from Bad Brad Graphics but if I decide to change anything I'll give you a PM. I do a lot of my own stuff from waterslide decals.

Same here! I always do my first fill with the hatch off so I can see if the vent line is empty. I know how many cranks it takes to refill after each flight without filling the vent.

The charater on your sticker actually say "Electrical Power". The DL50 Charaters attached (the one in DLUSA website), says "Power". Pronounce "Dong-Li" hence the "DL"

I've had my yak sitting in the shop now for about 2 months and today I started it. I flipped the prop back and forth about 20 times to pump the fuel into the carb. 6 flips choke on flooded. OOPS! But it popped. So choke off and about 5 flips and 1/4 throttle. It started and ran great. This motor is unreal.

With all this talk about the DL50 I've gone and ordered one with a couple of Xoar 22x8 props. Wicked, I just received my OS 1.60 last week for my GP Cap 232 and now it won't even get installed.[:-] Should be a fun project as this will be my first gas engine so I may be looking for some help with the setup. Like where do you run the vent line and do you use the 3/32" or 1/8" line for this engine? I 'm used to hooking it up to the muffler on a glow engine. I have been reading both DL threads for more hours than I can count right now. My eyes hurt and the wife is wondering if I'm buying stuff again.
I have one of those 42% engine kill switches on the way too after going through this thread.

Paul and Bob,
Thanks for the information on the oil.
I will read the articles in the links and let you know what I decide.
Cant fly anyway right now, we got 22" of snow on January 1st and now we have severe flooding with 50 degree weather today and tomorrow.
Thanks again,
Jim

Yeh,
Well I hope to see you next month and have great week of flying.
You know I don't mind the cold weather, if it would just make up its mind. This snow stuff ridiculous.
The cold isn't bad you're doing something your enjoying. But since the weather here stinks today I was out in the shop all day building a couple of Mojo's to bring down next month along with my DL50 powered Wild Hare Sukhoi.
I can hardly wait to see you put my Sukhoi through the wringer.

I run 1/8 in tygon fuel line, I use a filtered clunk ( can purchase at auto parts or lawn mower repair shop). This is the fuel line to engine and I install a t-fitting and use a fuel dot to fill. The vent line I route around the top of the tank, making a loop toward the rear of tank, then back forward, the vent should exit the bottom of the airframe. No pressure is needed on the gas engines. The reason for the loop in the vent is to prevent tank drainage when the aircraft is on a downline. You will find several good methods for routing your choke arm in the threads, I prefer the manual choke, accessible through the front of the crowl. The kill switch is a great safety feature. Gassers require loctiteon the bolts and screws, as you have read in the post. Good luck and keep us updated. Ed

Well it was 75 degrees here in north Texas but winds where gusting 25-35mph. Not a good day for flying but I finally got to fire up this DL.
First run took ten flips to pop on choke, choke off and started on first flip. NOW thats the way I like a new enigne to run. Much like My OS 1.40's.
It ran great for two tanks of fuel. Was a little fat in the lower range after a tank and a half so I turned in the low needle a total of 1/4th of a turn. The mid range ran pretty good and the idle speed came up a little. DID I go to far on leaning the needle? Haven't touch the top end yet. Was turning 6950 rpms on 22A Vess and 32/1 Lawnboy ashless. Of couse engine needs more time but after just two tanks of fuel it seems like its ready to go. Engine stayed cool and crankcase was just warm to the touch.

Way to go, Wayn-o!!!!!!!!! It will turn up better after it gets some time on it. The Vess 23A is around 7300 on a broken-in DL.
With just two tanks, it sounds like you're close. If it isn't bogging/hesitating when throttling up, you're not too lean....I have found the starting gets more difficult when the idle is too lean, and just a LITTLE tweak on the needle is a BUNCH on this engine.
Glad you got 'er going, even if using Lawnshhluddgeee

My friend was here to watch the startup procces and he was very impressed. Well when this gallon is gone the Lawnsludgey is going, going, gone and on to a synthetic. Had I read the article in MA before mixing this gallon I may have just started out with synthetic. From what alls being said about the oil stuff is it just takes a little longer to get full break in. With this engine in my 15lb GP Ultimate bipe I dont think I am going to worry to much about full power.
Now.... for that light wind, sunny forcast.

Ed thanks for the tips. I kinda figured it would take the 1/8th line and had ordered some. I had seen photos of the loop on top of the tank in one of Lou's posts and didn't see why it was done like that. Makes good sense once you think about it. I zoomed a photo of the engine on my screen untill the size matched the mounting template I have for it. WOW this thing is big!! Looks to be twice the size of my 1.60 FX or my 1.20 Surpass 3. I think I'm going into my third childhood..or is it my forth(can't remember anymore)

When you get to the tenth, it's time to retire. Then the fun really begins.

Retirement isn't what it is cracked up to be...........it's better! When I'm done posting this, I'm going out on the lanai and listen to the Pacific lapping the shore here on Kauai. 80 degrees today, but I have never been able to find any RC field on the island. Only 12 days left, then off to Florida to get the DL50 broken in.
