Hi Michael,
Here's an update, after reading your message about photographing a complete panorama view including straight up and down, I rephotographed my garage(240 some odd images). I stiched all the pieces together and in photoshop filled in the missing pieces with offwhite color. Sliced them in Photoshop to 8 x 4 (2048 x 2048 tiles). Converted them to dds and adjusted the dom file accordingly. I'm glad to report that pinpoint ugliness in the uploaded image from before is gone. I'd say it is a reasonable faximili of my garage.

Hi Michael,
According to the information I read about Autostitch, it does create a sperical projection.
I wouldn't call my image "complete". I've tried many sets of photos which developed into many panos, all using a tripod. I photo'ed in a circular pattern. starting from about the angle if you were to tilt your head straight down (keeping your back straight), then raised the camera and did another circular pattern, then raised it higher and higher again, ending at a tilt of angling your head straight up (keeping your back straight. The maximum lower and highest elevations were pretty much limitations of the tripod. When I did this set of photos and processed in Autostich, Autostich had trouble lining up the gray floor, white ceiling and the very close wall behind where I was standing.
Oh yeh, and I tried the photos at several zoom settings on my camera. It is such a small room, not much of the room is photographed at the same time.
I had read the information on "troubled matching" in Autostich and that was able to significantly help match up some panos, but let's face it white next to white is trouble, so is gray on gray.

Michael,
That camera.txt file can be a very challenging "tweaky". I'm looking forward to you comments. I was able to figure out how to change the default field of view, but not the default zoom. I couldn't find a table for this. Anyway, I await your reply.

Answer to Question 1: To change the direction of north in the pano, open the PanoExample.dom file and edit the Azimuth (deg) value. Changing this Azimuth value will rotate the dome (pano). Changing the Pitch (deg) and Roll (deg) in the file will tilt the pano and can be used to make the horizon in the pano line up better with the ground elevation. To move the sun position, edit the Azimuth (deg) and Elevation (deg) values in the Sun section of the file. To turn on/off the lens flare, set the flag to 1/0. These sections are shown below in the attached.
I'll reply tomorrow night about changing the camera zoom. It's a file tweak (customization outside FS One). If you want, in the meantime, take a look at the cameras.txt file in the Cameras/Pano folder.
This stuff is getting pretty deep into the sim, which is OK w/ me. However, I don't want the average user to think that they need to deal w/ this side of things.

I have two more questions on creating panos.
1) How does one determine where on the pano north would be? I've created a pano but north is somewhere in the middle of it. Should the pano perhaps start and end at north (i.e. if I look at my pano in a photo editor, is north defined by the points on the extreme left and extreme right of the pano)?
2) Is there perhaps a way of setting a specific zoom per pano (my pano seems more realistic when I zoom out slightly, while I like the standard FS One panos with the default zoom)?
Your answers are greatly appreciated.

Quinoa,
"throws" are in reference to being able to adjust the length of travel of the servo through settings on the real transmitter. "exponential" is a term used to describe desensitizing the control stick. In a real transmitter, this adjustment can be done through settings in the transmitter. The larger the exponential the less sensitive the stick. I should mention the benifit of exponential is that no matter how much the exponential is changed it does not effect the overall travel of the stick.
Now, going back to your original question, a real transmitter can do these things "in" the transmitter. The transmitter that can be ordered with FSOne is a "TracCon". TracCon is a box that looks very real as a transmitter, but has no internal adjustments. The terms above, exponential and throws can still be adjusted, but they are done in FSOne.
Which is better for you? That is always a difficult question for anyone to answer. How about this; Buying FSOne will save you a lot of money in learning to fly. I have it and it is worth having. Get the one with the transmitter. Just my 2 cents.

thank´s for the input SitNfly. My english is a bit rusty. Can you explain me what are "throws" and "exponential"? What´s the meaning of TacCon?
I don´t have a lot of experience flying (5-10 times). But I don´t want to spend a lot of money for a sim if I can´t take the most out of it

Sjc115,
I cannot share one of the panos I created and the other is my 2 car garage that I'm still trying to get right. It's not a typical pano and as such I'm getting direction on how to tweak the rest of the FSOne files to make it work. I don't really want to support my pano on your system. If I create a drop in pano, I'll let you know.

Oh my! Just got a Evga Geforce 7600 GT KO. I had a GF 7300GS. I knew it would be better than what I had but wow! If you don't have a current card, I'd consider getting something like this. At less than $150 I'd say it's the best investment I've made for FSone. For me personally, my frame rates went from an average of about 30 before to 95 now! (I'm at 1600x1200) But it's the level of detail that is even more incredible. With image quality set to "high quality", anti-aliasing at 8x and anisotropic filters at 16x, it's beyond words. Hats off to the guys for this!
With the old card, I found that if the aircraft was more than say, 25ft away, the jaggies were just enough to distort things so that it didn't look quite that great. Things did however look OK up close. Once I moved to the 7600GT, the detail in both views went through the roof! Sometimes I just like to taxi around myself to take a look at the incredible detail of the planes LOL... $.02

Ken, what are the specs on the rest of your system? I'm interested because I just ordered a 7600GT also, but my system is fairly old with an AMD Athlon XP3200+ chip. How much system RAM do you have and how much on the card? Off topic, but I agree with Scott's advice to Quinoa, in general. Much as I like FSOne, I'd still recommend trying it out if possible, before buying. Even check Ebay for a cheaper used sim before jumping into FSOne. After you've become a little more familiar with flying a sim, then drop the coin needed for a good computer and FSOne. At that point, I know you won't regret it. My opinion, only.

SitnFly: My system is Intel based, P4 641 3.2ghz on an Asus p5B-E motherboard. Nothing fancy really but it is at least "current" in terms of technology. I was running a GF 7300gs and 1gig of dram with acceptable performance. I've now moved up to 2gig. I wanted to run at the screens "native" resolution in order to avoid any weirdness and that's specific to MY situation, not everyones. I think for most people the 7300GS or GT would probably work fine since they may only be running at less than 1280x1024 which those cards could probably handle just fine with power to spare.
I totally agree with you in regards to trying it out first and I am an avid supporter of both FMS and Clearview which I also use in addition to FSone partly because they are more "open" in terms of development of models. Infact they are the reason I bought FSone. For a beginner I think they are both hard to beat. I used to think FMS was junk but I don't think that anymore because I've got hours of practice on it and I've learned quite a bit about how to fly that has already proved itself on the field. Sure it's not perfect at all but it's close enough that it will translate to the real world. I like being able to create your own planes. Not everyone will, but I do. That's the only thing that bums me out about FSone. At least it looks like you can "reskin" them which is "almost" good enough.
I tried out both G3.5 and FSone off and on for about a month at the local stores and found I always gravitated toward FSone. I didn't really know much about it at the time, it just felt different and more realistic.

Just downloaded the 1.0.5 patch and it will screw up your sound. 1.0.4 version was working fine. Now the sound just stays constant vs varying like it should with distance changes. I have contacted the FSOne help so we'll see if now we get a fix for the fix so to speak.[:@]

To skorman, preich, and abaco24 (and any others encountering a sound problem with 1.0.5) -- We have not yet been able to reproduce this issue. Also, an initial review of the code does not identify any obvious cause for a change in sound behavior. As a result, if you could provide details, it would be helpful in trying to address this problem. For example, what type of sound card are you using and which aircraft are you flying? For example, does it effect all aircraft?

I'm in the process of deciding which flight sim to buy and I am currently leaning towards FS One due to the better physics. However, I find that the selection of airplanes is poor. For me, there are not enough 3D style planes, and in what few are there are often of outdated models, e.g. previous generation Funtana 90 & 40.
I know that extra planes are being worked on, and I am willing to wait for them. But I'm not sure if I'm willing to pay for them. On the fsone website I see a reference to "enhancements packs coming soon" - which makes me think that the new planes will cost extra. If I have to also buy an addon or two to get a reasonable selection of 3D planes, that pushes the price to an unreasonable level. Competitors have a better selection of 3D planes, either included or available free for download.

Hi Quinoa,
I am a raw beginner and I bought FS One to learn how to fly and to practice without having to pay for repairs/parts after crashes. I have never flown anything before but I have wanted to for a long time. So far I have had the program for about 2-3 weeks and it works well, all-in-all, .... and I have saved a lot of money in parts/planes (and I'm not even trying fancy tricks yet)!! [X(]
I have found the program pretty easy to get started with but that may depend a lot on your computer and having the latest drivers. I installed the latest drivers, got a newer graphics card (Nvidia 7300GT) and haven't had much problem after that. I bought FS One mostly because the FS One people seem to offer great support through this forum and through others (listed in Inertiasoft support page). Some of the other simulators have more selection of planes and certain features (eg. like water takeoffs) that would be fun/interesting but they weren't as responsive to my initial questions and prices are comparable. I don't know if the other simulators need as much support or not because I haven't tried the others (except G3.5). It seems that a lot of people say the program that they bought is the best one. I also like FS One because I like to think that Michael Selig's contributions here reflect reality. Ceratinly his comments and some of the things I have read point to this.
I haven't tried all of the features yet but a few specific comments that might help you:
- I bought the version that lets me use my transmitter (Futaba 7C). It took a little bit of thinking to get the transmitter coordinated with the program but the FAQ for this is very helpful. It was pretty straight forward. If you use a Futaba 7C, be careful to buy the HANS3030 adapter because there is a similar cheaper one (HAN174) that apparently doesn't work with the program.
- FS One has a built-in series of basic and advanced lessons. These are short videos that tell you the basics of how to fly or how to do certain tricks and the commentary provides some advice. They have been helpful for me so far...I'd like to be as good as the pilot in those videos.
- FS One has an ability to fly gliders/sailplanes as well as powered aircraft. The gliders can be hand launched, winch lanuched, hystart launched (big rubber band) or tow plane launched. This is one of the main features that interested me because I want to be mostly involved with sailplanes.
- Unfortunately, the program doesn't have much of a variety of sailpanes and it doesn't have the ability for the users to create them...hopefully this will change in the near future. I saw a note from Brian (FS One Dev) in the RCG forum saying that new planes will cost extra. I really hope FS One changes their mind on this because the competition offers sites and planes as free downloads.
- The program includes a selection of flying sites that seem pretty good but many of them are essentially flat countryside (I guess there's not too many hills near Champaign, Ill.). Fortunately, FS One have released the methods for public users to begin creating their own pano (panoramic) sites which may make some more variety available. [Brian, would a pano site be able to include thermals and slope soaring winds/lift if I was to create a hilly pano using Michael's FAQ methods and the various notes above].
- I'm sure that there are more features that would be helpful to learning but I'm just getting started, like you.
buena suerte,
Dave

Hi Brian (FS One Dev) & Michael,
Considering my comments above, I thought I would just ask if you guys might consider including some or all of the following sailplanes (preferably fullhouse setups or close to) in the aircraft wish list:
- ASW-28 (2 or 3m versions, with T-Tail, also with an electric variant)
- Bird of Time (pretty popular 3 m, sailplane maybe even with an electric variant like you've done with the Swift)
- Discus 2a or 2b (2.5 m or larger versions using the scaling feature)
- Ventus 2C (2.5 m but different airfoil than the Discus)
- Cermark Breeze III
Thanks,
Dave

Hi again!
Muchas gracias Albatross1!! , first of all, thank´s for your inputs.
As I have read, this FS One sim has accurate physics but... who wouldn´t be amazed for instance to buy Windows Vista and would need 5 updates?. The question is... do I wait until patch 15 or until patch 20 to buy it?
My graphics card will be enough powerful or do I need also a newer one?...
It is normal that customers are scared to read that a product needs a lot of patches. But I think it is worth having this sim but I prefer to wait a little bit more, to read oder opinions.

Flying the scaled down P-51 65" with EVO 40 engine chosen and at RPM engine range starting at 2000, only other adjustment was a dry weight of 7.75 lbs.
Just tried the trainer, same issues and rescaled the P-51 to sets sounds again under the edit aircraft settings, same results. Another observation which may help. The sound will vary with the throttle, however when you bring the throttle to idle, the sounds mutes itself to a lower than normal level. You can still hear the sounds, but it's muted a few levels lower than just before when you were in flight.
Additionally the sound still will not vary on speed passes or with distance changes.
That's all I can find, and like I stated it happened right after I loaded 1.5. The sound varied with distance like it should with 1.4. Hope you can resolve and thanks for the quick response on RCU. I just performed a system retore for a few days back to remove the 1.0.5 patch and the sound is back to normal.
2.66 GHZ
1.5 GB Ram
Nvidia GE Force 6600
Legacy Audio Drivers
Creative SB Live
Flying the scaled down P-51 65" with EVO 40 engine chosen and at RPM engine range starting at 2000, only other adjustment was a dry weight of 7.75 lbs.

My Feedback: (2)
I'm looking at Albatross1's email and have a comment regarding the number of planes...
If I recall, R/C Flight (RF's granddaddy) only had four planes and as many fields... pretty basic.
It took a while for upgrades to happen. I'm anticipating purchasing FSOne once I can sell my G2 with the upgrade disks. I can wait and grow with FSOne as they add more planes...
I'm looking for some 'independant' planes, like the Sig Somethin' Extra, LT-40 and 4*40.
Looking forward to my purchase.

Albatross1 -- Thanks for the comments. Here's some more info and clarifications:
Just to clarify, both versions -- with controller and without controller -- allow you to use your own radio, if you like.
If you haven't done so, try the Pano site "Jockey's Ridge" and use the wind: "Slope Soaring: Jockey's Ridge 25-mph" (or one of the other Jockey's Ridge winds). It has very realistic slope soaring winds. It's pretty cool -- and not flat ground from Illinois!

Hey people, have been playing with FSOne for a little bit and have had a few problems.
When using a hobbyzone or parkzone plane and the only chopper ive tried in free flight mode my entire computer crashes shortly after take off.
however if i use these planes in one of the games it works fine.
I havnt adjusted any settings in the planes or that.
Tried dialing the graphics right down and it still crashes.
I have dialled the graphics right up while using other planes like the hanger 9 edge 540 and apart from being a bit slow still runs mint.
Have all current patches installed and still the same problem.
With the stuff that works its awsome!
Any help would be greatly apprecieated

4) I'd also like to know if I can set the zoom out, as I feel like I'm standing in the middle of the garage when I know the photo's were taken with me by one wall
Thanks

Advanced Users: I want a wide-angle field of view with autozoom. How can I change the autozoom field of view (FOV)?
http://www.inertiasoft.com/fsonefaq/#Q1051-FS1
BTW - As you probably already know, if you press 'A', that will toggle on/off autozoom. When Autozoom is off, then the x/z keys zoom in and out, leaving the FOV fixed when released.

Hi Michael,
Thanks for creating the FAQ, thorough, great. I followed it without a hitch. It'd be nice to have a choice of field of view in the options menu in a future release.
My Garage Picture is attached. I still need to move the heli over to the right and set it as the new starting point. Also, I want to change the elevation of my view, as if my head were tipped up just a little, any tips on how to do this? Is this the horizon change you mentioned in the FAQ:
"To change the direction of north in the pano, open the PanoExample.dom file and edit the Azimuth (deg) value. Changing this Azimuth value will rotate the dome (pano). Changing the Pitch (deg) and Roll (deg) in the file will tilt the pano and can be used to make the horizon in the pano line up better with the ground elevation (level in this example). To move the sun position, edit the Azimuth (deg) and Elevation (deg) values in the Sun section of the file. To turn on/off the lens flare, set the flag to 1/0. These sections are shown below:"
Maybe you could add to this portion of the FAQ whether a positive number moves the image left or right, and up or down.
Thanks for the reminder on the "A" Zoom key.

I just purchased FSOne and am getting dismal frame rates of only 10 to 13. I have a P4 2.4, 512mb ram, and a new ATI Radeon X 1650 Pro 512mb video card. I know I'm in the middle of the recommended CPU speed and at the bottom of the Ram size but am not sure where to start. More memory? Faster processor?

Kurt,
What resolution are you running at? Not that it matters with that card but I found that the combination of native monitor resolution and card resolution were part of my troubles in the beginning. In FS One got to Options Video and choose something a bit less intensive then exit and try again. See if this effects the FPS. Your setup looks OK other than total memory. With my card originally I went with "windowed" 1280x1024 and this fixed much of my problem. But then of course, after seeing what's possible in FSone I bought a better card and that made the investment in FSone very satisfying
What size/type of monitor? What type of motherboard? Probably makes sense to upgrade your memory to at least a 1 gig to be safe it sounds like from your description that the system is swapping code out to disk, but that's just a guess. I'd start with the video settings to see if you can at least get the FPS up.

Hi Ken,
Resolution is set to 1280 x 960 and the monitor is a Samsung, Syncmaster 214T, 21" flatscreen. I just finished adding an additional 1gig of memory for a total now of 1.5 and the frame rate did not change. I was using one of the 3D backgrounds. I went to the pano background, the sod farm, and frame rate jumped to the high 20s.
No idea what type of motherboard, computer is a Compaq Evo D510C. I played with settings in the video card control panel and while picture quality changes, frame rate does not.
