Hey Sonnich,
Im thinking about buying one of those Hawks, but the landing gear issue keeps bugging me. I don't know if I could find any Eurokit struts in the US. Long time ago, I had an Aviomodelli kit that had a landing gear very simillar to what you have.
How is the F-16 doing? Did you apply Ralles decals?
David

Hi David.
The eurokit struts are not optimal, they are a tad too long....but they will do.
Im flying my hawk from grass fields only, thats why I NEED some kind of suspension.
There must be some robart struts or something out there that fit better.
F-16 is at a standstill
No progress since I got the hawk.
Its a huge task to build compaered to an ARF

As I was posting above e-mail from Raidentech. There Hawk is made by a company called Shan Da. I guess I won't be ordering from them. Doesn't Amd have a Stateside rep that can get me a kit?

I don't think so. In all of these posts I have never heard of Shan Da. Larry of Jet Hangar says there are 4 different knockoffs being made. AMD being the only one with ties to JHH. DB

My Hawk arrived this morning. I think the kit is very good value for money as it is the same price in the UK as the Thorpe kit, which, I am sure is very good, but the AMD version will save me about 50 hours building and finishing time which I need with three model builds on the go!
The UK dealer has sold out of kits in about 5 days. Will be lots of Hawks about this summer!
Are you ready to fly yet? Look forward to some more of your excellent photos.

Thats great John, im very satisfied with mine too.
Im still waiting on the wren pipe. Ordered it about 3 weeks ago.
I guess it wil show up some day
There is not much work left in mine.
Have to install the aileron and flap, and nose wheel servos, radio gear, tanks and turbine. Shouldn`t take that long.
I got a more suitable nose retract unit, and modified the nose wheel well for it to fit. Now I can have a larger diameter nose wheel, which will be much better on my grass field.

anyone seen this:
http://www.ak-models.com/bae_hwak_blue.htm
Is this the same as the others?
I emailed him about them and asked if they were the same and if they could handle a turbine.
He said they are exactly the same but "not suitable" for turbine.
I wonder whats up with these.
He's selling them for $299 on Ebay

Wheels are different too. But the wooden parts in the bag, and cockpit area is the same as my AMD

Are you going to install the G/F tailpipe as well as the Wren pipe? The L39 doesn't need it so I don't see why the Hawk does, it's only extra weight and there is plenty of room for cooling air around the pipe.

When these planes FIRST came out. It said right there in the ad on the model aviation that is was/is NOT suitible for turbine use. This was a couple of years back though. Has there been a design change? I think this AND the ebay statement are meant as disclaimers. Russ

John, I dont know yet if ill install the glass tube. I think I will. I might even install a wall more on the wren pipe.
Im still thinking about it.
The elevator servo is colse to the pipe......
Russ, if you look at the AMD website, under the commo colored hawk, it says they recomend a mw-54 size turbine and DF setup.
Having the plane in my hands, it feels solid. Im not at all concerned that the turbine will be too much power for it. I was more concerned when I bought my first kangaroo....... :-)

The turbine / motor mount looks to be well above the centreline of the fuselage. Have you decided to mount on these rails or are you going to change the mount position.

I think ill use the rails, but just shim them up with some wooden blocks they seem to have the right angle.....But ill have to decide that when I can place the turbine in there and fiddle with it.
#146

I have just fitted my mw54 into the hawk.
The original mounts are to high , but as you have stated the angle is ok.
I packed out the mountings by 16mm.
I had intended to use the outlet duct that it came with, paint the inside with heatshield and
then install the "wren " tail pipe.

I am going to copy your rudder / elevator installation on post 71 (with your permission of course). It looks like you have passed a long cap screw through the elevator control unit and then used a piece of brass tube as a spacer between a ball joint which connects to the push rod /servo arm, and then a nut secures the whole assembly, is that correct?
There does not seem to be all the hardware to form this unit so I take it you have made up your own.
The instructions are a bit sketchy about this assembly.

Hi John
Yes, you are correct. But I ended up using a shorter allen head screw (cap screw? ) than on the picture. This is a very steady setup.
Chuck the manual away, and build it better
Hardly any of the hardware in this kit can be used......lots of stuff, that can be used for nothing
but it doesn`t matter much.
