Jetlegend 1/6 Scale F16

Hey Mark V,
Thanks for taking your time to present your model to us on RCU. Im amazed how you stayed with the internal rudder link. I just got the plans from GJC with the inside diagram of the fin. I personally rather cut the fin; however i will need to find a smaller but strong rudder servo that will fit inside the fin. Any thoughts anyone?
Ill be using a k-170 as it came with my plane. Before i bought my f16 it was flown by Bill Hemple. The previous owner claims they forgot to fuel it on its second flight but after further inspection i noticed the aircraft wasn't fuel plumed as it should and the right tank would "be empty"at half full, which caused the flame out as he thought he had more fuel. That led to an emergency landing off the runway which fractured the main gear former and it broke the gear. Surprising enough, there are only very minor scratch marks where the nose door is at and when one of the main gear broke and rotated to the side it cracked the fiberglass above the gear door. The gear doors broke off so minimal damage there and luckily the two bottom fins just minor scratches as well. I bought the plane since then and this is my first jet. I was also informed it was a Skymaster when i bought it.( being that all i wanted was a skymaster and i didn't even know what GJC stood for) I had never experienced jets before and of course without enough knowledge on it i got screwed but im trying to make the most of it. The fuselage has been handed to a fiber glass/ composite guy in town that fixes jets for the local and all the cosmetic plus the former will be fixed and all back to how it used to be.
Any one has any issues with the smaller air cylinders nipple just braking off of the cylinder? the gear is brand new and two of the nipple broke right off...any suggestion on how to beef that up? or any other similarities with your guys gear?
Are you guys using the original pipe?
Did you guys change the location of the main gear?
I would also like the know the same info that Gary just posted.

All,
Like to know who is still flying and pick up this thread back up.
Recently stripped frame down my airframe to see how the previous owner had built it and took that opportunity to fix do cosmetic work to it.
Now i'm getting ready to reassemble it back up
Anyone still flying this f16??

I still have mine, hopefully if the weather changes I will get it out and give it the airtime it deserves its only had about 5 flights. wren 160 power, only had the gear up once in flight so far and it went way out of trim when I did get it up and needed down trim has anyone else noticed this? or is it tail heavy and the rear retracting gear is making it worse?

I would think that flaparons would create more lift at higher speeds which is what you wouldn't want.
Just look at at your CG first to see where you at. I believe it should be in the ball park of 220-225 ( go back on this forum).
Take a picture of your elevator at center position to see where it's at.

my cg was at the 220-225 point as marked on the updated plans it does not seem tail heavy to fly, center position of elevator has the TE just above the speed brake

It would be nice if others would shime in with more info. I thought the elevator stands just below the speed brakes and if that's true, then your currently nose heavy

uat full nothing in main tanks, I hung it from point of cg to get it right.
all of the pictures I saw before the maiden had the elevator in the same position, f15's has the elevator in a central position I had one of those as well

Just as a FYI have a look at this thread.

It appears that the elevator neutral is slightly above the speed brake.

Ok so the CG is correct but the elevator seems like it's high to compensate for the drag of the landing gear being deploid. I would trim the elevator to level flight with the gear retracted and when it's time to lan, the main tanks should be lighter which should help, but just b ready to pull up elevator. Having flaparons with the gear down should help but with more power to give you the lift. That sounds like it would create the perfect alpha landing for an f16.
im no expert nor would I advise you to make any changes based on what I'm saying but I'll be looking out for that when I fly my f16.

Mike.. A 120 will fly it fine and dandy, just a longer take off roll..... I have flown this Jet legend F 16 with everything from a 120 to a jetcat 200 with 52 lbs thrust and they all fly great just a superb vertical with a 200 on tap !!! Just remember to programme your transmitter to switch to flaps and tailerons for take off and landing,, its an easy programme to put on a single switch..they take off and land much better that way,, Malcolm Kay

Thank you for the great insight Malcolm!! I've heard very good things about this F-16 and hope to build one here in the future. Thanks again for the programming tip as well.

Unless you already have one, I don't think that the plane is available from Jet Legend anymore. It is now being sold exclusively through BVM.

Hey Malcolm,
when gear deployed and while using ail and elevator( without flap), will the model need up elevator to sustain level flight?
Reason I ask is because "bluescoobydoo" flew several flights with gear down and trimmed his airplane to that but once he retracted the gear, the airplane would climb.

As far as I'm aware there is a restriction on sales of the F16 to the 'States as Uncle Bob has cornered that particular market. However, I don't believe it extends to the rest of the world...yet
