RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Ok guys I know this has probably been explaine before but..........
Balance 190mm back from fuse wing joint which is just a smidge ahead of trunnions from what I can see. Mine just gently drops the nose slightly. If that sounds right ill go with that.
Now just resetting the toe in on the mains they were way off and need to,realign the gear doors and glue on. If I can ever get the telemetry to,work on my dsm2 rcvr and dx18 ill be set. I'm trying to hook up GPS and eventually the jetcat sensor as well. Rcvr is bound but no one home on the tm module and the screen doesn't come up no the dx18 iether. Maybe ill yank it out and put data logger back in.
Hope to fly it Saturday

Yes, you can go further back, some people are 205mm. But yes, its not heavy on the nose (as it should be with correct gear positioning)

Hey Guys, for those of you who got the Union Jack Scheme, what did you use as reference to place all the standard Nomenclature decals from Ralle at TailorMadeDecals ? I just receive mines today and they are top of the line!!.
Thanks!

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Well no fire from the Titan so I borrowed a near new 120sx and got q cpl. Flights today. Wow impressive bird and yes Dave a 120 is plenty but I have to give it back ill,get titan repaired and in it will go. 1/2 throttle up I have the climb issue but it's manageable for now. Only needed a bit of trim.
It's a keeper.

Finally got the red done today, nice and warm plus a bit of help from the infra red! Took over five hrs to mask and took quite a while getting all the 3mm fine lining tape off before the 2k went off, just got the black to go plus the air intakes...starting to look familiar again :-)
Alan
Just noticed that the 2k seems to be having an effect on the grass! Think I will be needing some grass seed soon....

Thanks Marty, looking forward to putting the decals on! Someone on here was asking if anyone knew where they all go? Well I will have the same issue when the fuselage is all done. I mainly use the valley aviation web page that shows you the full size 2010 Display Hawk as there are many close up pics when the lads finished the paintwork but if anyone has got info on all the locations etc i/we would appreciate them!
Also some of the pics the red looks like there are bubbles along the edge? That's the reduction of resolution that RCU does when you upload etc my original pics are just fine.

Had a chance to fly one of these this weekend. Big bird....handles great on the ground and flys really, really well! Excellent value and built like a tank.
Good work CARF

This is the link to the Valley Aviation web page 2010 Display Hawk, there are some pics that show the position of some of the decals. This page has been available for a while so I guess quite a few have already viewed..

What do I do with that crazy cutout tray and half formers for the nose below the cockpit? Is it structural? I'm done now except for the component instal on that tray (first jet). I could certainly hysol it into the nose and stick the components on it willy nilly but maybe I should use a fresh piece of ply and do my own layout. Should it mate to a bulkhead or the nose gear formwork or can it sit in the middle on its own, kind of scratching my head here, thanks.

I could also use some advice for the gear sequencing. I am using an Airpower EVSD-5U-EVO multi function valve. Powered by 2 large Robart air tanks, one for gear/doors, another for brakes. I have to make a few selections:
1. Delay time for sequencing, default is 3.0 seconds
2. Normal braking or pulse (a form of anti-skid) braking.
3. Fail safe pressure, the pressure that the gear will drop in the event of a pressure loss. Default is 50 psi. But if the doors have to sequence open first maybe a higher pressure would be desirable.
I realize these questions may be best posted in their own thread but just in case any of you Hawk pilots have been through this, thank you for your help!

Finally, is there any consensus on mounting those Hawk "rabbit ear" scoops? Should we cut holes in the fuse to allow air in from the scoops? Or should we leave the fuse intact and if so, block off the front of the scoops with some black ply or just leave them open and hope the airflow doesn't rip them off? Thanks!

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
When I originally glued the scoops on I took the paint off so it was glass to glass and yes I cut a triangular hole to let air in...
I used a Cockpit Power box and the doors/wheels are controlled through that, I use 120psi and have had no trouble with getting the wheels away..
I have all the settings wrote down ie the times but will have to get them tomorrow as late now..

Can you post a pic of exactly what you have left over?
I think Dave told me the white horse shoe composite is for packing between fuselage and cockpit though I never needed it

Thanks Alan, no hurry I'll check back tomorrow but regarding the "rabbit ears" I have exactly what you have (as far as 2 Robart air tanks above the fuel cell).
The tray and formers are the ones supplied with the kit but not mentioned in the instructions.
The Airpower valve is sold by Dreamworks, I will call them tomorrow also for settings advice, but it sounds like you are saying the gear will move quickly so I can have a relatively short delay time.

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
You will be surprised even with 120psi the gear does not bang up quickly I would allow plenty of time for now until you try it in the air those doors create quite a drag when retracting and you don't want the doors closing early!
I have 3 BVM tanks in the top two are coupled with the third for the brakes and doors.

im using jettronics valves and sequencer in mine and there is an audible sound x3 when the gear come down on mine at 100psi 120 seems alot to me...2 large robarts supply the air...i didnt build mine but the batts are up front beside the nose gear mount and turbine pack is about 6" rear of them , it has a tams pipe and a titan se in it no lead needed

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
I also have der jet cockpit kits and the pilot is up front where he belongs. I'm probably a smidge nose heavy but ill fly for a bit that way and see how it is. Gear tray as per carf spec this one also has a jmp accumulator and beta testing the flush mount mag lock vent system in it.

I have the air pressure at 120 as this is working good at getting the legs retracted but I use a restrictor for when the legs come down
