Thanks guys
I still dont know if I should go for onboard or offboard
What are the procedures for an offboard gas system and starting ect?
Thanks
George

Hi George, I use off-board gas for my K80 it's just easier and less on-board combustable liquid in event of a mishap. Simply fit a one way Festo connector to the end of your gas line coming from on board gas valve, this will be where you connect your gas ground supply directly for start up. You will need to still regulate gas flow pressure, 10 psi is plenty as a rule and very little gas pressure required to ignite... I presume your dealing with Rene at Galtech Models N.Z. as he's your local Kingtech rep, give him a call if you have any questions at all Iam sure he'll be more than happy to assist and answer any install and running questions.

Feel free to email or PM me also anytime if you like...

Cheers- Marty

One thing Marty.
How do I regulator the gas flow? Would I use a gas restrictor?
Thanks
George

Boomer,
The K-80 ECU Has a gas adjust on it. It comes with a Solenoid that will pulse to regulate the gas flow.

I want to detune a K-80E to around 13 pounds thrust. What should the max rpm be set to? I was quessing about 120k. Does that sound about right?

anyone had a K-80Ecompressor stall? (Im presuming thats whats happening based on a description of the sound from other threads - burping, fluttering, cavitation type sound) - mine does it at max rpm (not all the time - comes and goes, if I drop down a few thou - it stops) - otherwise starts and runs really well

also curious to know what RPMto run at for 13-14lbs thrust

thanks

Julian:

Could you please tell me the serial number of your K-80?

Another Canadian K-80 owner, also complained about a "compressor stall" sound at sometime ago. After further troubleshooting, it was this growling noise during acceleration from a well broken-in stock fuel pump (the pump became stronger then desirable at the existing setting), simply dial up the acceleration delay and down on pump limit took care of the problem.

But your situation does sound like you have a highly efficient K-80 over powering its own stock exhaust nozzle at max RPM at your desirable Canadian climate.
Remedy:
1) lower your max RPM, cuz you have already reached max thrust from the stock nozzle,
2) Reconfigure nozzle, enlarge it by 0.5 mm, (email or call me if you need one)

Meanwhile, we are preparing a thrust chart for K-80.

Regards,
Barry

Hey Barry - its #329

- just received it from its previous owner and installed it on a test stand - very easy to start and run - other turbine owners have commented on how fast it starts (with propane-auto)
- accel delay - 10
- decel delay - 03
- pump limit - 704
- battery - 7.4 25C 4000mah lipo
- air temp is approx 75 F - moderate humidity

for my airframe - I will need 14-15lbs thrust - so dont really need to run it at max rpm - 145 (and would like to know what to set it to when the chart is ready)

to reconfigure the nozzle - is it a replacement?(likely wont do this - as no need at this time - just curious)

can it damage the turbine to push it this high? (when it starts making the noise)

thanks for the help -Julian

Hi Julian:

Yes, it'll be a direct replacement if you decide not to keep your stock nozzle, but we'll have to charge shipping though. Otherwise, the nozzle is $50 plus shipping.

Concerning the RPM/thrust, one of my buddies has 2 sprints, one with a P-60se and another with K80, he says to match with P-60 he would have to dial down the RPM to 135k, and at 138k, a substantial difference felt.

So Mark, your request to tune it down to 13 lb., I'd start with 135k first, hope this helps,

Regards,
Barry

Hey Mark,

You'll find that reducing the K80E max rpm down to ~126k will have you sorted, (~86%), this will give you just a tad over 13lb at sea level and ~20c ambient. Marty may be able to offer some more info also, he's very knowledgeable with the K80E.

Cheers,
Smithy.

Thanks guys for the info. Barry just an idea maybe you could put a rpm to thrust chart on your website for both the K-80 and 170.

Hi guys. If I needed to how could I extend the MPI lead to reach the turbine. Also can I use normal servo extentions for the rpm sensor? Cheers. George

Yes you can with servo extensions on RPM and Temp sensors not sure what MPI lead is.., but basically you could solder the length required on to any of these cables hope this helps,

Thanks Barry. It's the starter & glowplug cable. What would I do if it wasn't long enough? Cheers. George

George, Let me know and if you would like and I can have the factory make you up a custom length ECU glow starter extension for your K80. Bound to be the most economical solution for you...

lol Eric, the infamous 184 : ) yes, it is a great running engine.
George, you have so many options, thanks Todd and Marty!
Chris, I cut a wedge (to tilt for camera angle) and velcro the camera on to a horizontal surface (for the Gripen I put it on the largest antenna sticking out of the vertical fin) and drill a couple of small holes and zip tie.

Hi guys,

what spacing are you using between the Bellmouth and the exit nozzle?  The manual doesn't mention the required separation distance.  I read some where that 3/4" is used, but then i've also read that 1 1/2" is used by others...

Appreciate the help...

Thanks

Rob

Somewhere around 3/4 to an inch will work for the K-80.
