Travis,

Your right!!!!....I had my K80E seize on the 3 or 4 run...they replaced it complelety....No charge.....then upgraded the fuel pump from the Kingtech to Flight works....again....virutally no charge.

Kingtech provides excellent service and I will buy more.....Their service is A+. They have a bright future ahead!

well,
yesterday i picked up the replacement Turbine from our Customs, i put it in my Gripen and made two sucessfull teststarts.
Today i drove to our Flyingfield and made two flights. The K80E run perfect even with over 30° Celsius. I also must say a big thank´s to Chuang from Kingtech for there Service.
My Girlfriend filmed the first flight and here is the result.

Thank you Reinhard and Phantom for sharing, here are some pictures of a boomer XL with K80, flies like a huge parkflyer, once picks up speed, still able to display some impressive performance.

I think I am gonna miss this K80 powered XL, cuz I am about to install the new 170 in it

Guys,

What throttle setting do you have your ECU at? Expo/Half Expo/Liner?

I did three test runs on mine and i find the smoothest response comes from a Half-Expo setting on the ECU. If i use linear, the throttle response i get from midpoint towards WOT results in the turbine pausing/surging just before it spools up to WOT.

Pleased with the test runs so far. WOT at 145k rpm... but i notice my IDLE RPMS are at 47,000 rpm even though i have the idle setting at 45k. Any ideas why it would idle higher than set? should i reduce the fuel pump rate of 1020?

Thanks!

Rob

Rob, half expo is what I use, what's the serial number of your engine? are you running flightworks pump? if so, dial down the pump limit to Gaspar recommended 652 and that should trim out your idle.

Barry,

I have number 298.   I've done 3 test runs and once she has started to ramp up, no problems.  I'm using Kero with a 5% Aeroshell oil mix at the moment.  I've got a few question related to ECU setting and these are:

1.  The idle speed being higher than the set 45k.  Idle is a little lower than 47k rpm.  I'll try adjusting the pump power down as Barry recommends.   The fuel pump i have is the stock fuel pump(black casing, grey pump head).  Is that a flight works pump?

2.  Start cycle - from a cold start, i will get a time out warning on the first start attempt so i have to reset on the Tx and and then on the second start attempt, she will ramp nicely.  I have the throttle cut switch programmed on my 11X-zero so this makes it quite easy.

I think this may be related to the butane/gas settings and/or bottle pressure.  I use autostart and with glow plug power at 33, gas at 88% now.   Thinking of setting gas to 100% but i will try a new bottle to see if a higher pressure bottle will allow startup on the first attempt.  Any ideas?

3.  I have throttle response set to Half-Expo at the moment and i get a smooth, clean ramp up from 50% power all the way to 100%.  It takes about 4-5 seconds for WOT to come in.  On Linear, 50% to 100% resulted in a pause/surging then it would go to 100% cleanly after that.  Would adjusting the fuel pump setting down eliminate the pause/surging?  I was hoping to use a linear setting.

Thanks in advance guys!  appreciate the help!

Regards

Rob

Put 5 more flights on the F-86 today. The K-80 is working great. I have a total of 36 runs on the K-80. 4 of those where test runs when I first recieved and the other 32 have all been flights. Here is some video of one of the flights. Didn't get the whole flight becase the card on the camera was full.

Hello guys

I am very happy to be the owner of the K-80. I flow this awesome turbine here in Israel and i had many pleasant flights with it.

I used the Mobile Jet-II oil for it. I would like to change the oil to the Bp TURBO OIL 2380. Does anyone use this oil with the KingTech?

Ofir, thank you for sharing your experience with K-80E, BP 2380 is fine.

Hi Ofir,
how you doing? is everything alright?
I also have a K-80 which is currently mounted to its original cardboard box
considered mounting it to my F-4 but maybe ill just get myself a bigger airframe for it (what?? how said ViperJet?)
is the 2380 oil is easy to get here in israel? can you further elaborate on where and cost?

Thanks
Raviv.

Hi guys. Getting a kingtech k-80 for my first turbine and have a few questions. What is requried to get the turbine setup for the onbars gas system? Is it just a gas tank and an offboard tank with a valve? What would be a good battey choice? Was thinking 6c 7.2 v nicad. Any other advice? Cheers. George

Boomer,
I am using a 2 cell Lipo 2100 Milliamp pack. I do not use on board start just Powermax fuel externially for start up.
