Yes happy mother's day to all, and godspeed for end of the month Oralando, we all need you to fly hard again soon : )

Best Regards,
Barry
Thanks Barry,

Sorry for the late reply. I've been getting all my finances and home situated for my long vacation to the San Antonio VA hospital.
Looking forward to coming back already.
Just waiting on some landing gear for the 16 and she will be back and flying when I finish up.

Saturday my Kingtech ended its short life. After 6 test run fore a total of app 8-10 minutes running it was time to try the turbin in my Rafale. Fuel system had bean flushed several time and everything was ready for the big day. Turbine spool up fine to idle but seams to hesitate fore a half second on its way to full throttle. Back to idle after about 10secund at 145000 rpm. Next I gave full throttle but at 70-80000rpm it was over. Suddenly stop and a terrible sound. I use pressurised air to cool down turbine. Front compressor damage and everything is total stuck. Can’t turn anything. During 3 test run in test jig I notice high speed vibration at app 70-80000rpm so this turbine has to be out of balance from factory. I haven’t done any modification or loosen any bolts other than turn outlet cone so temp sensor fit my mounting. What now? Return turbine to factory?

It only took a few days from Taiwan to Norway. They also include a new Flight Works pump free of charge. Top service. I have mounted new turbine in my Rafale and had 3 test run so far. No problem. Turbine use a minute to learn new fuel pump settings but after that its was perfect. New turbine also has 3mm for gas and 4mm for kero so there were tubing and reducer included. Thanks to Barry and Chuang Wen-Fu at KingTech for top service and quick response.

Thank you for the update Rosland, the factory attributed the problem to an inferior compressor wheel. This incident prompted us to have an even higher standard in evaluating these components from the supplier. We are also looking into making these compressor wheel in house, then we'll have no excuse : )

Gents.

Been running my K80E in a JL CT-114 'Snowbird' Tudor. The engine starts and runs well. I did have to change, supplied by KingTech, to a Flightworks fuel pump. The Kingtech one caused the ECU to hunt about +/- 3K to 4K around a throttle position. With the new pump, that is gone. I have used Flightworks pumps with my WREN and JJ1400. Always works well.

The Snowbird is a missle with this engine. At 21.5 lbs, the K80E is almost over-powering. The residual thrust at idle is almost enougn to fly on. The flight is never about 2/3 throttle. Mainly at half. This is a engine with a lot of potential. Now, I must run it and see how the life span is.....

Just maidened my Tmajets 1/8th F-16 with the K80E today...what a great way to spend Father's Day!!!! The K80E provided plenty of thrust and other than on take off or go arounds, the throttle was kept around 50-60%. Thanks to Dave Dennison for all the help today, I know I would have had my hands full with out it, and thanks to Barry from Kingtech for all the help with the engine setup and initial start. It feels great to finaly get this thing in the air!

The engine has been just about turnkey from the box. All I've ever had to do is adjust some settings so it would take propane instead of powermax. Throttle response from idle to full is around 6 seconds at 900 MSL and 75 degrees F. One thing that surprised me about this engine is how cool it runs on the ground. The fuse is just slightly warm to the touch and nowhere near the point of causing any sort of structural damage. I like the fact that it was affordable (compared to other comparable engines in the 18lb class) and worry free!

Adjustments were pretty simple:

Set glow plug to 32
Set gas valve to 60

You must use a regulated valve though due to the high pressure in those green coleman tanks

Starts right up every time!

What Lipo Capacity and C-rating would you recommend for the ECU? I just got mine but didnt have a lipo pack with it. Thanks!

John, Thanks what Capacity and discharge (C) rate did you get? Was planning on a 2S 2200 30C lipo but not sure.... Is it possible to burn out the ECU with a high C (i.e 30C) rating lipo?

Thanks Chris, I have a new bottle of powermax that failed on me, lots of content but won't pump into my on board system. I am gonna order that valve from Todd very soon, seems like a great system! Thanks for sharing.

Rush, the pack you mentioned will be just fine, it should give you about 6 flights no problem. With a stock pump, typically each flight requires just less then 300mah, I generally reset ECU "Battery" under INFO menu after a full charge or replace a freshly charged pack, and the mah will be cumulative accurately from zero.

The high C rating will not harm the system!

I had no idea it was so hard to find Kero! I'll be using kero for flushing and the initial test runs.... if i can find some that is

Why not use diesel, people in Taiwan use diesel all the time and never seemed to have any problem, plus, you get to have a light gray smoke trailing

Barry,

I didnt know you could actually use diesel... and i am wary of using other than whats recommended in the manual as it may void the warranty?

Also diesel is messy vs. kero and JA1. being that kero and jet a-1 are very similar in properties, i thought Kero would be cheaper to use for flushing fuel tanks and fuel systems with kero, do the initial fuel pump run in and the initial test runs on kero before i moved to A1.

Also, i sort of read that you can use synthetic motorcycle 2T oil now instead of Turbine oil? I have some BP turbine oil here but if i can run synthetic 2T oil thats alot easier to find as well.

Thanks again!

Rob

Hello John,

I have check my ECU and manual. I can't find the gas setting mentioned in your post;

"Adjustments were pretty simple:

Set glow plug to 32
Set gas valve to 60"

Where and how do I get to the gas valve setting?

thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,

It's under the "Start" menu on your Hand Data Terminal. Go to "Start Gas Adjust" and dial it down to 60 and you should be set.

Hope this helps!

Chris

Rob, I understand it isn't in the manual, but not to worry, if you or anyone like to use diesel, we'll have you covered. As far as synthetic 2 stroke oil, again, if anyone would like to use it please drop me a line through email and we'll cover you 100%, we appreciate all the data/experience gathered.

Thanks Barry,

Appreciate the support you provide for the K80E. ... but i dont think i'll be testing synthetic two stroke any time soon as its my first turbine and i i'll go with the tried and true for the moment

Regards

Guys,

I'm finalizing positions on the equipment tray and needed some advice.

Is there an issue with placing the ECU next to a Digiswitch/Powerbox and a Electronic Sequencer? I was just wondering if i should be concerned with electronic noise or something like that before i fixed eveeything in place. I've attached a pic of the proposed layout... The ECU would be on the top end above the Airpower Sequencer. Thanks in advance!

Rob
