Anthony,
It has now become a tradition. A lot of the D1 guys stop on their way to Muncie. This year I guess it will be Sunday and Monday before the NATS. Yes, I will be there. I'll be in late Saturday night and then fly on Sunday and Monday and head to Muncie on Tuesday morning,

I'm driving up there Saturday, so I'll see you all on Sunday at the field in Ohio!
And let me tell you, that field is awesome. HUGE and private. You could run 4 lines if you really wanted to, easy. The best part is that the conditions (temp, humidity, density altitude etc) are exactly the same as Muncie, so for getting valuable practice, this is THE place.
Plus some of the coolest people in pattern are there and that never sucks!!!!
Bottom line, I'll be there for sure. Thanks Arch for hooking us up with such an awesome practice site and session!

Dibs on that one!
I thought one degree seemed like an awful lot. I am already set at 1/4 positive and doubt I will have need to change.
Rick and I plan on being at St. Clairseville Monday morning to fly as much as possible. The seperate lines thing is a good idea. We could definately use the space better than last year. Will be great to see all of you guys again.
Think the BBQ guy will be there?

Anthony,
That I'm sure of. With Jamboree in the Hills going on the following weekend, the chicken guy should be up and running. What works out really nice is that the Jamboree is the following weekend, so you can get hotels in St. Clairsville. It's worth stopping just for the chicken guy. I'll have my new VF3 as well that mike is building that i'll pass around also. I like your separate lines idea, just spread WAY out.

Finally, done! A month late and 3 oz over my goal but I am very happy. I have a lot to learn about 'glassing and finishing but it looks good at a couple of steps.
OS 1.40
APC 18.1*10
Airtronics Radio gear
PPG Deltron and Monokote
10lbs 3 oz (w/ a big Nicad, tall gear, 3" wheels, etc could knock about 6oz out with out a lot of trouble)
Flies very light! Nice pace and very smooth. Only two flights today and I have a little trimming ahead of me but boy is nice to have something that flies so light. Rudder is very effective. Good stall turns. No real roll couple but pulls a little to the gear. I will tune that out very soon. Pulls a little to the canopy on down lines. CG is just at the leading edge of the tube and still playing with it.
Different approach to elevator mounting. Added a half former on the gear plate to help with the velcro that grows at my field. Also, got a neat tank idea from Jim Quinn. Will have to get some pics of that.

Moved the Cg forward and everything is getting better! My first real KE loop today without a lot of effort. Mix will be small. Snaps and spins stop very well. Better feel inverted. All the effort was definately worth it! Thanks Mike!
Pics of tank mount. Second former is removable for access. Needs a little more thought because there is a small amout of fore and aft movement.

I have a trimming question for you guys. A couple of days ago I was checking the amount of control throws on my first Black Magic V2 so that when I set up my backup plane I'd have a ballpark setting to start with. The ailerons and rudder were about what I expected, but the elevator was 5 degrees of up throw and 10 degrees of down throw. The wing incidence is set per the plans and the CG is at the leading edge of the wing tube with the wings off. The airplane has the same feel when I add up or down elevator. Inverted flight requires a little down elevator. Basically the airplane feels just right.
I'm wondering what you guys think I should do to correct the differential in up and down elevator throw? I was thinking that I may have a little too much positive incidence in the stab. Any suggestions?
Rick

Rick,
Are you sure the geometry is correct for your elevator servo(s)? I run and know of other people that run a little more down elevator to mimic the feel of the elevator flying upright. Are you going to have this one at the Nats? I was looking forward to seeing it at Winston, however someone didn't show up.
Anyway, take care, hope to see you in Muncie.

I tend to run more down elevator in my planes. For the same reasons Ryan does. When inverted you should be carrying a little down, so you need a little more throw to get the same results. Now, on my VF3 and the prototype I had a little less down elevator than I normally run to make the negative snap in masters cleaner, so to get the same feel, I added reverse expo, and made it more sensitive around neutral, and anyone who flies my stuff is probably thinking...I'm NUTS. I fly with basically Zero expo to start with. The VF3 is the first plane I've ever used any expo on.

Anthony's BM v2.2 has left the ground quite a few times now. Got some photos of his beautiful machine when he was practicing his routines last week. Wow, what a great design, Mike!
