Hey Frequent,
Glad you had the plans because I needed them just as reminder. I have 2 V2's to finish and 1 more VF3 to build and this will come in handy. Thanks for putting this out there.

Pete, et al:
I have one of the very early VF3's. On the build threads I have seen reference to a set of plans. The later kits had cd's with them but I did not get plans or cd with mine. Does anyone have the plans (fuse side/top view which shows former/bulkhead info and/or identification/location, aileron size and location, elevator size, etc) in electronic format that you can post or send to me?
Thanks,
Ed

To all of those interested in the VF3, I have gotten in contact with the individual that bought the rights/electronic files and molds for the VF3. His name is Rick. I have started building a VF3 that I have had for a few years and hope to have it finished shortly. I plan to post some progress photos and Rick has allowed me to mention his company website on the thread. He should have an article or advertisement in the next NSRCA K Factor.
In the short time I have dealt with Rick he has been very responsive. I am sure he wants to provide service to those that need VF3 parts or kits. As I mentioned, he is an airline pilot so if you e-mail him thru the company website, it may be a day or two before he contacts you but he has never failed to contact me as soon as he can. The website is: www.midatlanticairframes.com.
I have included couple of photos of my VF3. The entire fuse (with the belly pan, canopy, cowling and chin cowl taped on) is 1 lb 15 oz. I has all of the internal stuff in it (wing and stab tube) but not the rudder or throttle servo mounts. My hope is to have it ready to glass next week. Don't know if I can keep it as light as Deans but we will see. I have taken what all of those who posted tips on the construction of the model to heart and carefully selected balsa so we shall see. Plan to glass and paint the fuse and film cover the flying surfaces.

Hey Ed,
If you have just average building skills you can build this plane light. The big killer with this plane or any other pattern plane is too much paint. I have now painted three VF3's and my first one was a problem because of too much paint and they become tail heavy. I was a terrible painter and Mike and Dean can vouch for that, but I finally got the hang of it and my paint jobs look nice and they are light. Just remember to use as little paint as possible and the weights will come out right. I'm can't remember if this thread has the paint and glassing tips on it or if the old V2 thread has them, but if you follow the suggestions that are posted on this website you won't go wrong. Example the latest VF3 I painted for my son Chris came out at 10lbs 6oz ready to fly which surprised the hell out of me. Happy building

thanks for the reply. I have pretty good building skills and was just trying to crack a bit of a joke. I really don't like to do film covering so I tend to paint most of my planes, including pattern planes. In reality, I have about 20+ pattern planes under my belt and have been building for about 50 years (started with free flights ,then to control line and Rc in 1973). Somewhere along the line I began to build crash proof (probably started when I did warbirds and jets) and I am getting back to building light. i agree about the paint. I have had conversations with Bryan Hebert and others about my painting practices and they have offered some pointers. I think I will be OK on weight. I had better be since this is intended to be my Nats plane.
Thanks again for the advice and encouragement,
Ed

Ed,
Thanks for the kind words about myself and the website!! For those of you wondering we should have kits available by June 1st at the latest, we are expecting approx two week lead times.
I've glassed and painted a few VF3s and V2s in the past and have found that Don Ramsey's video about painting a wing can be easily adapted to the fuselage. The one thing that I remember was sand sand sand, and then sand some more!! If you have any questions about what exactly I used as far as primer, paint, sand paper grits, etc I'd be happy to help, just let me know. Happy building!

Just thought I would post some photos of my Black Magic build. Instead of using CA hinges, I decided to use Robart hinges and do some center point hinging (this is the way I have done some of my warbirds). The fuse as you see it (with vertical fin, rudder (not yet hinged) stabs and elevators (already hinged) weighs 2 lbs 15oz. I will make another post with the details of the center point hinging.

Some more shots of my VF3 build. The first photos are of the recess I create for the 1/64th ply that goes on top and bottom of the stab to conceal the hinges. The next few photos are of the stabs. The photos of the "T" shaped device is a little plywood device I made to sand a small recess in the stab to accept the 1/64" ply piece that goes on top and bottom of the stab to conceal the hinges. It is just made of 1/8" lite ply. I glued a vertical piece on the bottom to act as a guide that rides along the trailing edge of the surface and a vertical piece on top that I use a a hand hold. On one side of the bottom I attach a piece of 100 grit sandpaper about 1/4 to 3/8" wide to sand the recess into the flying surface.
The photos of the stab show the 1/64" ply pieces that are glued to the flying surface and they also show the radiused leading edge of the elevator. The end shot is of the stab and elevator to give perspective of how the hinged surface looks when mated to the flying surface. I will do the same for the ailerons and rudder.

Thought I would post an update. Making progress on the model. Fuse, stabs and vertical fin are all complete and hinged. Only thing left is to sheet the wings (probably tomorrow). The fuse as you see it with gear and the stabs weighs 3 lbs 5 oz.

Mike, after reading your diatribe from yesterday's response I've come to realize two things. Number one, you are "the Master of cheap shots" and number two, you and Jason are in the process of getting your just reward from a past history of making bad decisions. BTW, I took the liberty to contact Rick and told him the real story about the knock-off Typhoon you called a Black Magic. Also note, Cameron and I are doing well and enjoying everything life has to offer! How about you? I wish you luck my friend because you both are going to need it______Everette

I purchased one of the early basic VF3 kits. It came with a CD of PDF files and some .DXF files of the spars and molded parts, but no full size plans. Is there any way I can get electronic copies of plans to build on from someone?
Thanx,
Rob

You know NOTHING about me or this plane. NOTHING. Typhoon? are you kidding me? ROFLMAO. Yeah ok, maybe the wood box build up is similar...it IS wood, you got me there...and oh yeah, it has wings too. Nice catch.
The only bad decision I made was ever trusting you and Cameron in the first place. If I made a second, it was giving you whackos the benefit of the doubt and a second...third....fourth chance and let the insane babble slide. Moreso you than Cameron even. THAT'S saying something. At least Cameron ATTEMPTED to be civil.
My just reward? LOL yeah ok. I feel better and am doing better NOW than I ever was messing with toy planes. one of the main reasons I stopped. So I wouldn't have to be forced into the same area with the likes of you and the other little childish haters. on a CONSTANT basis.
I'm not even friends with jason you fvcking retard. he's in trouble for messing around on the net. I'm not in any sort of trouble. At all. Sorry to disappoint you. But your real disappointment will come next time you go flying, as usual.
Get a clue, and go get some professional help. At this point I'm thinking straight jacket.
And why do you even care? You won't see me again unless you do something very, VERY stupid. I'm out of this game and just cleaning up a few loose ends and then I'm gone for good. Then pattern can have you....lucky them. I'm sure the people at the meets look forward to endless complaining and whining instead of having FUN. God help them if they try and have any of that....
Dude really, let go of the hate. Dean is gone off in Rio flying handgliders and I'm hitting the gym and working on a boat. This constant hate isn't worth it to either of us and we quit. You can have it, congrats. I haven't slept this good since last century. Lupus is in remission, one daughter graduated, the other is becoming something of a star in the art world, and Mitchell is thriving. Never been better. All since I gave up this nightmare. And got away from psychotics like you.
But hey, if it keeps you out of the psycho ward for another day, then yeah I'm homeless, addicted to heroin and in trouble with the law. make up whatever you need to make your world keep turning.
Enough of you. Find somebody else to bash and harass. You don't seem to have much problem in that department.
The rest of you, just keep quiet and do nothing. pretty soon you'll have contests with about 4 Everettes and not much else, because everyone else will be gone.
It isn't worth it to the average person.

That being said I THINK Mark Atwood may have something like that, but I don't know. If you have the files, that's really all you need. It's nothing at all like the V2....or a umm....Typhoon ROFLOL
As for Rick and the "bought the rights", I didn't sell anyone anything. At all. But with that said, he does have the molds (via a 3rd party) and stuff so if he's making them, more power to him, I don't care. best of luck, you'll need it Rick
See above for what you have to look forward to.But I own the VF3 molds, templates, design etc. But Rick has my full permission to make kits etc., although it would be nice for his to actually say SOMETHING to me personally...a PM would be fine. I want NOTHING to do with this crap anymore.
And with that, Ed your plane looks fantastic, hopefully the mods will clean this up, ban Everette for life (and me too, who cares), and the world will go on like it should.
But be warned people, there are wierd and crazy people in the pattern world, and they spread thier crap like the black plague. if you tolerate it, you better have a back up hobby lined up.
Cyaz,
-Mikey
