Warks----Thank you for your help---really apprec the tips, important ones on beefing up wing structure. Copy--so. .I need to open the bottom of the wing, and beef up??---1/8 ply new rib??, but, of course only after I visually access the lateral dimensions of the Sierra mechanism....copy--thanks. The gear door accessories are very important to me, ie gear doors....---The sierras are on order----awaiting.

Also--anyone know of the Zoller Acces Parts issue--I ordered from him last night, the drop tank, canopy, and radial engine: Then the note (when I awoke ) in Large print says he doesn;t sell on his own any more, but only via E-bay. I put in payment via pay-pal, visa, got a receipt #---and now I see he's not selling. Anyone have points on the legitimacy of this operation . I'm hoping(if no products evidently, are to be shipped to me) no charge will ocur on the Visa card. Sincerely--Edward A. Sarkisian

Zollner Models is Luke, aka "Bent Metal." Many of us on this thread have ordered his CMP Hellcat parts and have been absolutely impressed and satisfied with the products and prompt receipt. I just ordered some spares myself. I recommend you send a PM to Bent Metal to confirm he received your order.

On another thread you were asking about about tips for fiberglassing the wing. I used Luke's method (his screen name was then DIONYSUSBACCHUS) discussed in Post # 711 & 714 of this thread. Using his technique and recommended products, my wing turned out very nice, even though this was my first fiberglassing attempt. Here's a link directly the post: [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=3936050]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=3936050 [/link]

Great, the tail wheel looks awesome Randy, very nice. Really going to add a nice scale touch to your model.

Edward, I got ya covered, I’m packing the boxes now. Should have your parts in about 3 days.

Thanks for the support and kind words John, glad you used the light weight fiber glassing method. It is not only the easiest way to fiberglass, it’s also the lightest in my opinion.

Anyone find a "darker" blue paint that matches closely to the origional kit's color? I know they are not accurate but need to do some touching up and want to get this thing in the air. Also for future reference any recommendations for a flat/satin clear?
Thanks!
I don't know what would match the stock color, it seems to have a bit of purple in it. As for clear, I highly recommend Minwax Satin Polyurethane (gold spray can). It is very fuel proof (much more than lustrecoat) and goes over decals and other paint without worry of bad reaction. On my CMP planes that I did not repaint, I used the clear to set the decals or other paint touches like invasion stripes. On my Hellcat, I totally repainted it using Testors modelmaster colors and put the clear over top. It is holding up well after a couple seasons of flying.

sarks,
As I said in an earlier posting to bigbird I am sorry for misinterpreting your post. No hard feelings. Thanks for explaining it to me.

So if I wanted to start the bash would Brain Taylor plans help ???
Just found my BT Hellcat plans, and they do show all the scale detail. Scale elevator hinges, aileron hinges, all that stuff. So you could easily modify the CMP Hellcat fuselage and wing or build a new scale wing with the BT plans and use the CMP fuselage.

You guys, man! I decided to leave my site open this week to catch any stragglers, now making Hellcat parts has turned into a major production! I’ve received another 5 orders since yesterday, I will get all of those out Saturday, thanks for your patience. And again thanks for all the support, there is no excuse not to see some really nice Hellcats now, so let’s see them! [8D]

Hot Rod-ck out the model airplane news e zine site there is a great article on painting with latex. I took some color photos of a F6 with the 3 color paint job to Home Depot and had them mix me up some blue in a semi gloss for 12$ a quart. Use the clear poly if your going glow or leave as is if your using gas.

Rapturemen---Pleas elaborate on the use oif Latex paints(which I've heard of being used on RC's on sev aoocasions). Confirm we need to clear coate over if we're using Glow---as I am, OS 1.20 FS. I am finishing mine in the 1943 "Marianas Turkey Shoot" raids off the USS Yorktown (cv-10) My Dad's carrier in The pacific. I have a thousands of pictures of the deck of the ship, weathering shown, oil, you name it. I am concerned of >>>>>>The weight of Latex and the use of a clear coate over it......What do you know on the weight of these paints vs a very expensive Nelson paint program to paint this. Looking forward to this all------I thoroughly enjoy the weathering and wearing ---and am to fiberglass the wings, and tail. My Dad shot down a number of the Jananese Zeros, so when I finish the Hellcat, they'll be a weatered Zero with
20 mm AA holes through key points. That's weathering.....

Thanks guys I too am very happy in how it turned out. Hey Luke for the longest time on my other CMP Hellcat I couldn't figure out what I didn't like about it untill I built this one and saw the difference in the stance (now the legs are in there right spot) with the shorter wing and the canopy. Now it looks like a Hellcat.

Thanks again

Looks great Warks,

I'm also interested it what pilot you've got, it's kind of a shame to cover up Luke's custom cockpit with a pilot though...

Know what you mean Randy, can't wait to see how it handles with the scale wing. I'm predicting good scale performance, since the stock wing makes it fly like a trainer almost.

As some of you know, I sculpted my own pilot (and made a silicone mold) for this plane, although I never got motivated enough to cast more for other people. I did score some featherweight casting resin that's used to make floating fishing lures and things, it's super light. I wanted to cast a few with that stuff to see how they work out. Hollow casting the pilots is to much work, and I think they could be made lighter with this new resin even if they are cast solid. The resin is mostly filled with a sort of Micro-Balloons or something, cool stuff.

I'm sure they'll be great like the rest of the stuff! If you are looking for someone to take your experiments off your hands, put me down for one!

Luke , just got the parts , thanks as usual they look great , shipping was fast ect ect , but funny story . I been selling candy for over 20 years (46years old) my company just purchased two companys , one was Cap Candy , the makers of spin pops from in variuos licensed characters ect ect .

I asked my wife while travleing if i received any hobby stuff , she said no , just work , you know the usual samples ect ect .

WHen I got home my parts from Zolner Models were shipped in a Cap Candy Case orginally containing Fairly Odd Parents spin pops lol , so not only did my parts come in a case that orginally has candy but they come in a case of a company that we just purchased about 5 months ago . So what my wife thought was candy /work was the great parts , now I wonder if I can get all my hobby purchases shipped in candy cases then wify will think I ma just working my butt off

I wish Luke would make some add-ons for CMP's 140 size P-51. His stuff looks to be the best add-on parts around. Especially for the price! I can't find a decent cockpit kit for this plane in the correct size, let alone gear door pieces or anything else. I guess it will all be from scratch.

The things you guys are doing with the Hellcat are amazing.
