Well with some testing on the lawn here is a change I had to make, simple if you look at the rudder servo there is not enough support near the servo end final product here vid http://s443.photobucket.com/albums/qq153/lipokilla/ Two photos show the internals of the carbon fibre rod, where is exits the body you have too keep this quite short, the link above is split for some reason just copy the whole thing into a browser I guess you can see the after and before photos here

So I've already seen 2-3 of these for sale here on the RCU marketplace...This means either, the economy is hitting hard, or perhaps thisd isn't the best flying plane. I asked one of the guys who flew it 1x, for a brief review and he said he couln't give me an answer after only 1 flight. Hmmm !
Who else has flown this bird and what does everyone think ??

Hey Guys,
I havn't flown mine yet but I don't see how it could NOT be a good flier. Great wing planform coupled with a long tail moment makes for a stable well behaved airplane. I guess the guys that are selling truly need to make a little money ot they are just not into WWII German aircraft. It doesn't have the sleek lines of a Mustang and it sorta does look like a fat cigar with that cereal bowl spinner but it is none the less a very aerodynamically clean machine. The guy who said the comment about the economy may be right though, things are not getting any better yet and probably won't until the latter part of 2009. I'm afraid that selling off your RC stuff may be difficult as we are all in the same boat this time, who's gonna buy it?
Happy Flying!

I got my new spinner this week from dave platt,,, and have just about completed the build on this plane,, i am kind of disappointed in this arf, i have had trouble at just about every turn. cheap wheel wells that crack, and of course the canopy, if you just look at the canopy wrong it will crack, hard plastic spinner, trying to line up the dowel holes for the front of the wing,, i am use to that being done already,, the sheeting on the wing seems to be thin and brittle, and several other things have got me turned off on CMP planes,, i dont think i will get another CMP,, I dont want to sound like a whiner, considering the low price i paid i should not cry. I have just been spoiled on higher quality arfs.

I understand your disappointment but .. I think its really about the lack of China marketing and the basic CMP plane what I mean is I have many of the CMP planes and I enjoy them .
However knowing the spinners are probably useless or in some cases dangerous , I wish they would simply leave them out and bring the price down , same with the wheels and the hardware . I think they (CMP) feel they offering a more complete plane and do not truley understand the US RC consumer , especially the warbird guy. Most of is would rather add wheels that look correct and have a spinner that is safe .
However as far as arfs in general I think CMP provides the best value and a real opportunity to have a great warbird and bash it into your own ,
If you check out the CMP P40 thread and see what the guy did to his 73" plane (he is from Norway ) you will be amazed !!!!
I personally do not buy any ARf with the objective of getting it into the air quickly , for me (and its just me ) I like to tweek them to more scale in the winter months and fly in the summer . I dont really care about being first to finish , i want to finish when I think I am done with it
I have been working on an Fw190 for 4 months , tinkering here and there , no plans , just my own sequence and goal of a more scale Fw190 and one that does not need 3 pounds in the nose !!!
Anyway , you have look at CMP for what there worth , fun , exciting warbirds , good size , nice budget , and yes they need some tweeks , but hey build a 73" warbird from a kit or scratch and you will have your own separate set of problems , its all how you look at it .

With the plastic rings glued in place and the wing seated and lined up, I drilled two 6mm holes from the front, through the firewall all the way through the plastic rings and into the wing. This secured a good fit of the dowels.
The holes in the firewall are plugged later on.

That is what i did, and it worked good,, but i just hated to drill holes in the fire wall,, i will say that the paint job on the plane is very good,, i know some guys dont like it but i think it looks great,,

Well fitting the pump was an interesting exercise..... motor wouldnt start but would turn over a couple of times then stop, then it started..... backwards and throttle stop wouldnt stop it... see in the photo above somewhere I routed the fuel tube discretly through the body... now that was a good idea as I was able to stop it.... and then blow the fire out inside the canopy.... yes you heard correct it caught fire. no damage apart from a little blistered paint what would cause that? never heard of a 4 stroke running backwards? too rich on the idle?

Snappa, good luck with that pump. I put one on an OS-1.60 and it was always too rich on the bottom end. Once I took the pump off the engine ran perfectly. I had it on a 3D plane where I thought the pump was needed, on a warbird it is not an issue.
For those that wonder how this plane will fly, you have to keep in mind that the wing loading is much higher than some other ARF's such as the Hanger 9 warbirds. The weight is not and issue, IF you don't crank it around like a sport plane. I have not got mine into the air yet (below zero and snow you know), but after quite a few CMP planes I have a good idea how it will fly.

For me the question is:
Flight characteristics should not be on "how the model" will fly", but "have I flown enough of a variety of models to stay calm and fly a model such as this ?"
It comes down to basics, CG, airspeed, early lift off, high angle of attack at take off, hanging on the up elevator on approach, ect........ And Experience.
We have all seen stop signs fly and even Snoopy's dog house.
Anxiety can play a bigger roll in a flight than the models design sometimes. A good example of anxiety was my youtube landing. The model was not at fault, my thumb was.
This is why I have not assembled my complete with all parts (Wren 54, Scale Gear, ect) Yellow F-16 Turbine yet. I would be saddened by the fireball at impact.
But life gets shorter everyday, so soon enough its got to fly.

Steve this is a very interesting point , in my spare time I coach ice hockey at a high level .Nutrition is key to performance . I often hear rc guys talk about the new plane jitters ect but they dont realize that they just downed 4 cups of coffie or 2 cokes ect before they went to the field or at the field .
Its critcal on the day of your maiden to watch things that you eat that can creat more anxiety .Sounds stupid but its true ,

Have yet to find a good replacement canopy.
Skyshark's is too small. ImpScale's is too big. Platt's is too big and he won't break apart short kits, Brian Taylor's is too small (but only by about 3 inches), the KMP one SHOULD fit but I don't like the look of it on the web page. Its even less scale than the CMP one.
