Cut a slit in the end and use a small hose clamp to attach it to the muffler and on the other end you simply just secure it so it does'nt vibrate around. Light and simple.

Those are some great props. What made you decide to use the RCV 90's? Do you know what the intended flying weight of your plane is going to be? Would a scre jack system work good as a retract on the mains?

Back online with much [:@], but after deleting windows components and starting over again [:@] we are back with email. I can now email the video of the landing. The 7M of the take off is just too large. I sent the landing to Gunny, but he wasn't able to receive it. Don't know why. Is it possible to post to this site. ? I will also check with my server to see if I can set up some type of web page with a link on it. Do we have any fly dates yet

Glad you are back Jimcork, my fuse is almost completed, just filling and sanding and covering, nose wheel is in place I hope to have the mains built this weekend, now if the weather will just stay wet and cool out here on the West Coast so that the "honeydo" list does not get bigger I am shooting for the end of Feb to be doing engine trials and then pray for an early spring Mike

Good to hear from you again, Jim. Weather up here hasn't been cooperating for flying. We went out last Sunday, was about 45 deg. when we got to the field, and weather immediately started going sour. We managed to get a few flights in on some stuff, but the Herk is relegated to the hanger till better weather comes by. Calling for 6-10" of snow here starting tomorrow. We have restrictions on our field until Feb. 1 that basically does not permit flying on Saturday, and that's when I plan on doing my taxi tests, etc. When I'm doing testing, I don't particularly like a crowd around so I can concentrate. I also hate to hold others up from flying when I'm doint this, so I opt for Sat. afternoon when there is usually no one else there. But, there will be at least one video camera on it during the tests. I had my son videoing my "taxi test" of the A-26, and during one of the taxi runs it suddenly leaped into the air and before I knew what happened I was committed to the flight. Had all kinds of trim problems, but got it up and down in one piece. At 20# and 52 oz. wing loading I wasn't expecting it to voluntarily take off! Guess I'll know better next time.
So for now, I'm just keeping the dust off the Herk till spring, or spring like weather.
Good to have you back.
Randy

Ok guys, need some help/ advice. I finally got my rear gears mounted and then the trouble began with the nose gear! How in the word do you reach up there? if you guys cut an access panel, how do you cut the FG with a thin gap only? The other thing is, how much of a brace do you put up there for a fixed gear? And finally... the cussing really got bad when I was making the nose gear. I used 5/32's wire and tried to wrap it with wire first then get the solder to stick.... no luck! Then I tried to scuff up the piano wire and solder it.... well that kind of worked, but it looks crappy. Is there a wheel holder out there like two wheel axlestogether and a whole down the middle for the gear shaft? Getting up in there though to mount the wall seems very hard to get to though!!!!

You have to get real good working with one hand, Bill! I studied that nose for awhile also before deciding how to get the nose gear and mounting plates in. Far as the nose gear, Du-Bro makes a E/Z Adjust Axle that worked perfect for mine. Part# 614. It slips right on the end of a straight 5/32 coming out of the steering block, and a cross axle goes right through to put two wheels on.
I used a Dremel cut off wheel to cut out the access door on mine, then used 1/32 ply and glued inside the fuse for the door to seat against. You might be able to see it in the pic. I then fabricated a latch and exterior handle to close it with. and, I do have a pic of a Herk with a cargo door in it in just about the same place I put mine. If you need more pics, let me know, I got time, being snowed in tonight.

Thanks for the info on the struts. I do think shock adsorbing struts will really help the landings. Wish I had put them on earlier.
How close is anyone to flying? Yuky weather here,, temps falling winds 20+ knots. Can't fly or take the boat offshore. UGH,,,
But great day otherwise.. Jim

Now you have found out that my short arms just won't reach the nose. I cut the cockpit area out with a dremel very fine saw. The line was over the top and just above the radome forward. This way I could put the nose in through the cockpit area. (One photo is prior to tail installation and shows the main gear box, 2 spruce spars, and the inside of the cockpit showing how it was cut out.
This has worked well, but a pain to do. I used 1/4" ply for about a 1/3 bulkhead. Consider my nose gear does retract. Another advantage was mine was tail heavy and I had to add 1# 5 Oz to the nose. I put the weight as a bulkhead to the radome. I also put the battery in the radome. The weight bolts in and holds the weight in place. I attached photos of the nosewheel assembly I made and the retract/servo system on the bulkhead. The bulkhead was 1/4" ply with 1" glass (4oz) fiberglassing in place. The servo mounts on a 1/8" ply plate that bolts to the 1/4" bulkhead with 4x40 socket head screws. This way I can remove the servo package to replace etc. I showed a pic of the tail bulkhead. You will notice I milled the lightening slots. Caution easy to be tail heavy.

If I do the first Lady AC-130 I will, but otherwise I doubt it.
Question: What do you guys think about putting an access panel in the floor of the plane a few inches behind the nose gear? If I really brace it and carbon fiber it.... will that keep the structural strength? Good idea... or bad?

Gunny, I do not know if this will help but I made a box unit containing the nose wheel ( non retractable) and the steering servo, because my bird is scratch built I was able just to mount the unit in place and put a hatch cover over it Mike

This is the version my buddy and I want to build. It is an upgraded EC-130 that jams the TV and radio signals of the area they are over and rebroadcasts the USA version. It is called psychological warfare and seems to be working. They currently fly a lot of missions over Iraq and Afghanistan. I believe the version is the C-130J, but I might be wrong, if I call my buddy, he would know. They are at a base nearby and we can get a load of pictures.
Notice the external antennas, the blade antennas, pontoon style antennas and the big X on the tail.
The 4th picture is just cool!

runover1 the plane is an EC-130. The letter before the C signifies the type weapon system ie: EC is electronic warfare, KC is a Refueling Tanker, HC use to be a rescue bird. MC Is special OPS, and a C is a slick. The Letter after the 130 is the model or version. I believe the ECs are mostly E models, but they are getting the new J models. I'm going to do mine as a J model slick.

Nice looking Coast Guard 130!!! How did you do you nose gear... or how did you get it in there?
Guys I have a picture of a Coast Guard C130 with a rotating radar disc on top... I think it is officially called a Radome....
Also I have a few close ups of the EC 130 setup. It is in the Signal Sqaudron books. There are two C-130 books. One is the "in Action"... I do not know the other one, but one is good and the other really is not that good. I want my nose gear in this weekend!!
The wife is going on a trip the next weekend so I will really get some work done!

Mike,
Very nice paint job and pics of the CG aircraft. Looks nice, good luck. If anyone missed the pics of C-130E, Blackbird, with the Fulton recovery system, that I worked on for five years in Germany let me know and I will re-load them. Or they may still be available if you page back. If anyone wants an 8x10 of one I can get reprints at Walmart resonable. I will be trying to make my 11 footer look like that one.
