I mentioned at a contest once that I was not using inline filters and boy did I get hammered. No amount of showing what I was doing was good enough. Most all carbs have the fine mesh screen in them. I hate those little screens. I've unplugged countless numbers of them for folks that use no filters anywhere.

I told Adam Vorhees at BCMA what I was doing once cos he thought I had a carb problem and he said that that was good enough to know nothing was getting into the engine. Hey Bill, Just replaced my HS 5645MGs in my Extra elevators with HS 5985MGs. WOW What a difference.

I have an update. All servos are installed and i went with the 4 servos in the tail setup. However, my radio just can't sufficiently mix them on the elevator let alot the rudder. So i ordered a couple matchboxes from horizon. Hope that goes well. Also, since i am going gas do i really need that HUGE tank that comes with the plane. I would like to mount the tank on the cg and the stock tank doesn't fit. How many oz per minute am i expected to burn with the DL at WOT
Still waiting on funds for the engine [

Thanks

Cambo,
4 servos in the tail with the DL is gonna make you pretty tail heavy so move things closer to the front of the plane. A single 5945 with a DA50 was just perfect as everything else went over the CG point, except the fuel tank and it came right out on the recommended CG. 5945's I am pretty sure are either 1.8 or 2.1 ounces each.
Al,
Gotta love the 5985's More than enough on this plane. I did a 5955 once on the rudder just to see if I could feel any difference and did not because the 5945's I had (same as the 5985's) were way overkill anyway

Today I went to put back my apc 20x8 from the 20x10 apc to see if there was a difference on the Fuji 43. I also asked about the in tank fuel filter and boy was I right for the hell of it I went to check the carb ,as I had some problems with the Fuji at about 1/3 to 1/2 stick on the throttle it was not smooth like to rich popping and stuttering , and 1/16 turn in on the low needle it would lean it too much it would hesitate and want to die, I cannot believe all the crap even with a in line filter was on the screen. So I am going to look for a in tank filter here if I can find one.

Where should i be mounting the fuel tank with a gasser? I would like to go with a smaller tank just don't no how small. I really don't want have 30 minutes of fuel if i am only going to fly for 10-15.
Also, matchboxes arrived fedex today. Hooked one up for the elevator servos and i noticed an imediate improvement over programing them into the radio. They were right on. Just a slight mechanical differences wich will be an easy fix. I am excited to hook up the rudder.

Hey Cambo,
Walbro and Zama carbs have built in pumps, so you can place the fuel tank on the CG. I will run 1/8" Tygon to the BCMA 40cc gasser for my Cap, with tie-wraps or Dubro fuel line clips at all connections. I plan to start with a 16 oz. tank and see how long I can fly on that, and it will probably be too big. I will loop the vent line to the back of the tank and forward again to exit near the firewall so fuel does not siphon out when the nose is down. I run a filter in the vent line so dirt cannot be sucked in on the ground, but it may be overkill. Also, I have soldered a piece of 1/8" copper tubing over the hole on the carburetor metering diaphragm cover, and I will run Tygon from it through the firewall so that pressure inside the cowl does not affect the fuel mixture. Hope this helps!

I just used all of the stock equipment (after flushing the tank) with 1/8" tygon tube and a gas fuel stopper. Plane was already setup for glo so the changeover was easy. I thought there was someone on here that used two small tanks though.

Got mine going with a DL-50 (3in standoffs), four metal gear servos in the tail (two digital), mounted my rx battery central, and my ign batt on the motor box, balance is still a bit tail heavy. But this plane is a blast to fly, with a DA or DL it has incredable power. add a little flap-elevator mix and it harriors great. I have a GP patty and this one fies much better, all the way around. I really like this plane so far. I will say that I would never fly it at the aft CG point, again (unless you like using quarter stick down ele on landing).
Havent gotton my cowl on yet. Has anyone noticed a diffrence between cowl on and off? Other than the extra nose weight?
Now... Can anyone do something about this 30mph wind so I can go flying?

Are you using the recommended throws? My first flight was that far back and it got pretty nasty, even on low rates. I like a tail heavy plane, usually, but when it's a cap and a 15mph crosswind is a good day. Tail wheel first landings are not the preferred method. How high are you getting the nose on your harriers? I couldn’t keep it from slipping into a hover, when I got the nose up high, with the CG that far back. With the CG at the recommended point, and flapperons, I was trucking around at about 75deg, with no rock.
It does waterfall better with the weight aft that's for sure
, but then, it tends to flop out of repeated snaps.[:'(]
Cut out my cowl tonight, tomorow I'll mount it, going to be a beautiful day... W/ 35-40mph winds

There is room to move the stock tank back but I'm not sure you can put it on the CG. Mind you, I never tried. If you read back through the thread you'll find two guys that moved theirs forward into the engine box for some reason. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_44...0/key_/tm.htm#

Not if you use a drill guide bushing. The DA-50 one will work for the DL.

I have a couple friends in the robotics team at my highschool. The team has a nice drill press that they said i can use. Just got to figure out what prop i should be using.
