How do you prime your engine then?

I'm pretty certain I'm getting one. I have an ASP .91 4s that ran great in my Kyosho .40 sized cap until it met an ultimate demise. I let the inverted spin from a blender go too low[X(] I don't hear many people talk about that Cap, but this UCanDo will have a LOT to live up to. I've never seen a scale .40 size plane blender as tight as that Cap did. Elevator decents did rock a bit though. Anyway...

I have everything in my Shopping Cart at tower ready to go for a new UCanDo .40

ptartp,

I just hold a finger over the exhaust exit for a second while spinning the motor over to prime it. I usually never do this anyways, unless it sits for over a week. I am using a Saito though so your engine may have different needs.

One other thing to note, check the interference between the carb and the motor mount screws. I had to replace one hex-head screw for the motor mount with a countersunk phillips head machine screw, so the carb wouldn't hit. Again, it might be different with your engine.

In the manual for the UCD they showed a screwy method of hooking up the throtle, where the wire sorta doubles back on itself, changed mine to a cable run and inverted the throttle arm away from the engine mount, so the arm itself where the pushrod connects to is pointed towards the cylinder head (think that makes sense, also used a clamp to attach the push cable to the throttle arm, so there is no clevis, would take a picture however all cowled up is a mission to remove.
What prop are you looking at using, mine is swinging a 15x4W and that is awsome combo, pull out of hover no probs, only needs about 10 ft of runway to get up in the air and it goes straight up, no probs

@ fiveoboy01

The engine is not here jet but I will post how it performes.

Yes it is the new 82 AAC GK. Reason I choose it over the others is performance and weight and 251$ for the GK is unbeatable.

size HP weight (g)
.72 1.2 470
.80 1.3 540
.91 1.6 520
100 1.8 550

.82 1.5 462 (new)

For me it's the best power to weight ratio I've seen at fourstrokes.

i ran into a problem and i was wondering if it is a big deal. the instructions say to mount the engine so that the back of the spinner is 5" in front of the firewall. i can only get 4 7/8" with the engine all the way to the front of the motor mount. is this ok or do i need to get a longer motor mount?

Hey phat, i have this same engine, and have also ran into the same problem, did you try mounting the cowl further back? Did it work ok? Or did you get longer engine mounts?

Awaiting your answer as i am at this stage now, cheers m8.

Just wondering why you purchased the GK model. Your just going to end up stuffing it under the UCD cowl anyway. Seems like $20 not well spent. Don't take it as a cut or anything. Just wondering your reasoning.

I just threw my saito .72 in there at 4 7/8. It was the best I could do at the moment. the cowl mounts just fine, only the swirl lines don't line up so well, but i really don't care about that. Tomorrow is the maiden. It balanced pretty well with everything in the stock location, about 5 3/4 from the LE.

Has anyone tried the UCD .40 in AeroFly Pro? What do you think of its performance? Is it realistic?

@ coomarlin

The GK? My wife likes it better than the standard colour.
And usually I have my engines quite some time and never had a black/gold design.
It will be mounted sideways like the OS 50 SX with a pitts muffler - so at least we get to see the gold rocker cover.

How well does the UCD track? I'm kinda split between buying a pattern plane, and the UCD. Does it track decent enough for me to do some pattern maneuvers (nothing competitive).

Ptarp,

I don't know how good of a pattern plane it would be. It doesn't seem to roll very axially, at least in a slower roll. I think that one could do some decent pattern maneuvers with it, but not as smoothly as a dedicated pattern plane. Of course it's not really designed for pattern anyways. I know there are some planes you can get that are dual purpose pattern and 3D airplanes, but I have no experience with them.

I've seen a guy fly patterns with the 60 size. it did OK. i think th 46 would do OK if set up properly.

pattern... as always, the ucd can and does flutter if oversped, something that will really make you concentrate on the throttle for pattern maneuvers.

GK edition... i'm still waiting for someone to mount the engine upright and just let it stick out of the cowl. saito's look great, especially the gk edition, why not show it off! [8D]

With the CG set 5 to 5.5 inches the .46 tracks rather well, if it isn't to windy. At the proper CG there is very little coupling with the rudder and rolls are actually very axial. When I had mine set up properly it would do very clean vertical point rolls; much to my suprise. The plane will not snap roll easily because of the wing design but I enjoyed attempting pattern maneuvers with mine

Almost finished building my Ucando, and then i notice it, i pick the wing up to move it and it crackled (as in split wood underneath the covering), never done it before, don't know how this happened, but it did, so what do i do now ??

It's on the leading edge of the wing, 12 inches in from the left hand side - can someone tell me how to fix this, as in what to do in idiots terms (never had to fix one yet), can i peel the cover back and glue it then re-seal ??? Or do i have to get a new bit of covering for that bit or what?

I really have no idea, please help, thanks !!

Did you cause the damage?
In the past there has been a lot of problems with the packaging of the UCD, including mine, i got hold of great planes told them about it, sent some pictures through and ended up with a new wing.
Cheers

I can't say either way, like i said, not sure if it has happened here or not as i have not noticed it until now, but i would rather just get on with it and repair than mess about trying to get a new wing out of them, so if anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Mark,

Just peel of the covering using a heated iron, repair the sheeting and iron it on again...thats the beauty of monokote.

So let me get this right (sorry, i'm a bit of a dumb ass ) I first heat it up, then peel it back, fix what needs fixing, then just iron it back on again?

Thanks for your reply.

Yup...if you have never worked with monokote type covering it may take a bit of practice.
You peel it of as you heat it...and when you put it back on do the edges first and centre...else the covering shrinks and you may not get a straight edge.

This is the second plane, I have adjusted the throws to the 50 to 60 degree range, my first one flies better, this one had a twisted wing straight from GP, their quality lacks and the customer service lady was a pain until I put my foot down. Included are somr airburne pics.

Be very sure to clean all of the oil off the Monocoat before starting to repair and re-iron or it will not stick down for long.
