I finally got around to playing with my hitec prism 7x. I added flaperons to my T___T, but I'm not sure what percentage or deflection I should put them at. I have a lading switch that I can mix in flaps and elevator. I'm going to leave the elevator mix % alone and just add the flaps percentage to it. What would you guys suggest?
I took your advice and removed the limiters for my .46 evo and added a A3 plug. The weather up here in Duluth has been nice and sunny. Almost 40 degrees everyday this week.
. It's supposed to be 50 this weekend. I have my fingers crossed that the wind stay down and a reasonable mph.
thanks,
Kassun

Sorry Binky I have to say this.....25 bucks an ounce is a great deal! Its like Waldo's flash backs all over again. Ok guys this weekend is the big one. We are going to the 60's in temp and supposed to be perfect. I have a few maidens to do, the 150 twist, the 88 inch cap, the 40 magic. I think this is going to be the weekend I have been waiting for. Its only been since september so what am I complaining about huh?

Good deal Twisted......hope you have great weather. After 2 months (granted I'm all new to this hobby) without flight I pulled out the trainer...just to get my thumbs back in action. I hope to pick up the OS 70 next week...............and flying on my next free weekend. T***T #2 will be there as well.

binky99 _____ I agree anymore than about 2 or 3 weeks and I dig out the old Nexstar to get the reflexes back. And I've been flying for about 4 years now, but then I don't get to fly as much as I did before I started driving a truck. For the first year and a half I averaged 3 days a week, now I'm lucky to get 3 days a month.

Well my TVV!$T 40 Is starting to show some wear and tear. 2 Flights Wednsday afternoon and The Tail wheel is starting to look like it wants to fall off.. Getting loose and floppy From side to side, its stock So i should have known this was going to happen. It's the PNP Plane So it was assembled at the factory. If it would have been the ARF i would have installed the Better Tail Gear during it's assembley..
I have this as a replacment wheel actually i have 4 Just for this..
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...5&I=LXLKN8&P=K
So what i'm wondering is how i'm going to be able to remove the Rudder without causing a bunch of damage to it and the structure Since it appears to have CA Higes holding the rudder on. I'm thinking that i might Just cut the hinges with a sharp exacto and change them to some small robart hinges. Has anyone else Modified there hinge points on there TVV!$T 40.?
Or is it best to Just replace them with the same type hinges Since using a robart hinge system may leave a slight gap between the surfaces.. I have this problem with my Extra 330L using robart hinges and have to get some covering to close the gap between the flight Surfaces to prevent Flutter. Just wondering what others might have done with there Hinges and control surfaces..

Link Just cut the hinges and put new ones in above or below the old ones, I think at one point my whole rudder was one big glued Slot I did it so many times, it worked and is still ready to go on another bird if so needed. I usually just buy a few boxes of 3/4 CA hinges from GP to have around and for other flyers who might need them at the field.

And for the tail wheel you can just replace the whole bottom leading edge of the rudder and glue in a new one then support it with a couple of pieces of balsa ply, framing the outside edges and epoxy it. this will take minutes to do and really add some strength to the lower rudder.
You will Love the OS 70
T_ _ _Ted LOL at $25.00 per....
I wouldn't have made it through the 70's, [
] And have a great day of flying,, get some footage of those maidens... there is already talk of people going out to our field,, I'm thinking within the next 2 weekends we won't be able to hold back anymore and we'll be out there. Yippeeeeeeeeeeee
Kassun I don't really know what percent to use them at, I have my Flaperons on a dial and I set it so they can go full down If I need them too, I barely use it all, but I've dialed in a bunch of different settings and tried them,, so I think they all work pretty good, but its really not needed at all, I mostly use it just for something fun to play with.
Buckskin I hear ya, I get 4 days a month, unless there are 5 Saturdays in one of those months and I get a few shots during the week when I can't handle it anymore but I just fly an electric around my property, once in a great while I'll take the T_ _ _ T up too. not a choice place to fly but works great in a pinch.
Sonnytex good luck and that should be an awesome combo

Link...ya gotta switch to these

Cost a little more but I fly everyday, and stresses show up quick in a design. This puts
-0- stresses on the rudder assembly.
Chuck...I run an OS50SX. Its a screamer with unlimited vertical, hovers about half throttle. I have an Evo52 on a Hanger9 F-22, not overpowered but does ok. I have an Evo52 on a Marks P-51, 40 size airframe with significant structural mods (heavy) and it flies like a bat! Scuse the mess, Im changing the P-51 over to a Miss America scheme.

Dad_Roman is right, Link........go with the Sullivan tailwheel assembly.........I've never had a problem after installing them.......ever!
I'm envious of you folks.........we still have another month and a half of slop to get through! A 60 degree day is a beautifully warm summer's day up here.....short sleeves and shorts weather.
Whenever I rebuild my T_ _ _ Ts, I get rid of the fabric hinges and use these........ http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXK117&P=7 there isn't much of a gap increase and they are flawless!

Anyone have any pictures of how that Sullivan tailwheel assembly works..
Thanks everyone for the Information Going to cut the rudder off and Switch to the pivot type hinges. and try that Tailwheel assembly out looks like alot less drilling into the fuse and rudder then the one i currently have. Didn't seem to work out to good on the pitts 40 for manuverability so i'm not to impressed with it.
But i cant see how that Tailwheel assembly works Is i free floating and the springs attach to the tail some way i dont have any like that on any of my planes So if you have a picture of the setup that would help alot sometimes i have to see it before i understand it..

Here ya go link...

Yes its free floating. Also has fantastic ground handling.
I try to barely even attach it to the rudder. They have an "L" to insert into the rudder but I dont like that. If the rudder is wide enough I make a loop in the spring wire and screw it on, but my absolute favorite way of attachment is to straighten the "L" and put it through a piece of fuel tubing, then a dot of CA on the bottom of the rudder to hold it on. This way a rough harrier landing or general "oops" that tears the tailwheel off or any bump (in a grass field) that stresses the tailwheel a lot, will not tear off rudder material or structure. Worse case is it tears the fuel tubing or if you only insert the spring a quarter inch or so into the tubing then it will twist around and the spring end will come out of the tubing.

Thanks i like those ideas they sound great alot better then the tailwheel i have were you have to drill a hole in the rudder and put the dowl in for the tail wire. Sounds great i'll be getting one. along with some other much need Hobbie stuff Seems it never ends...lol always need something..

Hey Dad Roman...
so, do you think it wll do well in the Twist 40 based on your experience with the Evo 52NX? How do you like the 52NX? What prop are you using?

Dad roman Sullivan is always the way to go for the tail wheel, I love the tubing on the bottom of the rudder Idea,,, Awesome, I'll have to try that,, I busted a few of those spring wires with the little L going into the rudder so I just kept re bending another L in the line and inserting it a little closer each time on My US 1000, its a heavy plane and a very bumpy runway, the tube should be the answer... Thanks... and 5 of us are building the GP P-51 Stangs and we are also doing the Miss America Scheme,,, Pretty funny
DownT I like those hinges I think I need to update myself here, There are so many things I'm just hearing or learning about,, I guess when you find something that works well you really don't look into too much,, this is the only reason I can think of for lack of Knowledge of these parts,, but it might just be sheer ignorance too..

Hey 2HI2C, thanks for the feedback! What prop are you using? Are you able to hover with the 52NX?
I have O.S. and Evolution engines, I like both, I have one Saito and it broke all the time, in parts in a box...

Chuck...yea man, I think it will do great. I have read nothing but complaints about em but I have had nothing but good luck with em. I think I run a 11x6 on the stang at 12K rpm. On the twist I would definantly run a 12x4 but if 2HI has run one he should know exactly what to run on it
It should ROG in about 10-15 feet.
Waldo...Im rehashin an old Marks P-51. used to have 2 of em and really loved em so I got me another the other day. I do have the GP 51 up on the shelf though
Flyin off grass.... we have a nice field but still, flyin off grass I have found is really rough on airframes, coverings, and gear setups. I saw the "fuel tubing" idea and tried it with great success. Just tired of the bottoms of my rudders looking like the dog chewed on em!
Tips and Tricks keep things fun, ya just gotta find em!...remember, there are no new ideas!

The one I flew had a 12.25x3.75 on it with the .52. I personally can't hover worth a crap (old timer reflexes) but the Kid who owned it could hover all day long it seemed like at a little over 1/2 Throttle. I'm sure a 12X4 would work well also.

Kassaun I have my flaperons on a dial also and have noticed that 30% down gives some really nice carriers and really seem to slow the plane down.
I am waiting to get together with another guy and his computer radio so we can buddy box them. That way I can make my adjustments in flight.
I have been using my flaperons to help trim her out, on approaches, flying upside down. I am planning on having my flaperons on both a switch or rotary.
blinky I like the os surpass better than the satio and if you ever have to rebuild 1 you will see what I mean.
Well I've been flying the se lately, It's been really windy an all and I can't bear the thought of repairing her any time soon, at least not until I've had a chance to show her off at the club field.
Right now she has the look of a new plane. hopefuly this summer she'll be a daily flyer

Actually you will notice a big difference between the 12.25X3.75 and the 12X4. On the old .52XLS I had in the twist, with the 12X4 half throttle hovers. The 12.75X3.75 would be climbing with authority. For me this prop seems to give instant power (thrust) at low RPM's making slow flight a blast. It still flies faster than I like to push it.. Get both, see which one you like...

I put the 52nx in the Twist 40 with a 12x4 wood prop . It is hard to find the 12.75X3.75 around here it seems and you can put a 13x4W on that engine, which I thought would be another good choice for hovering, aerobatics, etc.

TimC.......I like the extra reinforcement on the bottom.......for those of you that haven't re-covered your T_ _ _ T.....that bottom "skin" is only 1/16"......even the Sullivan tailwheel, with it's four mounting holes, won't last long on grass fields. (They didn't for me, anyway. I had finally used long screws and then sprayed expanding foam inside to "grab" them....but TimC's way looks stronger and faster!) The scratch-built T_ _ _ T will have a solid piece of balsa or at least a piece of 1/4" ply to reinforce the tailwheel.

chuck993..........I started using T_ _ _ t instead of the name in protest of the poor customer service I received from the distributor of the T_ _ _ t. Since that time a number of forum members have demonstrated their solidarity by adopting it's use as well. Maybe if enough of us stand together we can make a difference. That's about it.......a few consumers willing to stand up to "big business".
