Am I Making A Mistake ??
Went in to the local hobby shop for a new 2.4 G 7 Ch. Radio. But I made a offer on a new 9 ch. FM with 4 standard BB servos $280.
Later they called and said 280.00 sold.
Should I do this?

RE: Am I Making A Mistake ??
I don't think anyone can answer that question without some specific information.
What radio, what servos, any receiver?
Help us out here.
Or, you can look on various sites - Tower, Horizon, eBay - and figure it out yourself.

The Futaba used is going from a low of $100.00 to $150.00, that's the 9-C. As Dave pointed out, the radio can be changed over to 2.4. A lot would depend on the servos that come with the radio too. I have the 9-C and love the radio but if I was just starting out I would be going to 2.4. Due to the number of RXs I would need right now to change over I haven't done it, I need to have at the very least 6 RXs. Nothing wrong with the 9-C at all, one of the very best radios ever made but it is old Tech. Very hard choice, good luck with it.

Go with the 2.4 if you are just starting out. It will save you money in the long run. The 72s are great and I loved my Futaba but the tims of change are here and 2.4 is the only way to go IMHO. You can do so much more with the computer radios and you won't have to spend a ton of money later on to switch out 72 RXs to 2.4 RXs. Again just my opinion, but strongly encourage you go 2.4.

I did what you are thinking about - the complete 9c radio system with the S3151 digital servos for $289 on clearance at my local hobby shop. Later I went and bought a 2.4 module and receiver set up. It worked out a lot less than the 10c which doesn't come with servos either. If both 9c and 7c radio systems are new, you can't go wrong either way.

The servos are just standard, check with Delman and see whare he bought his radio, you may get a better deal. Check with Bruckner Hobbies in NY, they have some of the best deals I have found on Futaba radios, bet you can get better servos for the same price.

It really all depends on what radio you want. 72mhz stuff is getting cheaper all the time, so if you want to outfit alot of planes with new $25 recievers then it makes sense. 72 still works as well as it ever did, although I do love the convenience of 2.4 and won't likely go back. The only advice I'll offer is don't settle. Decide what you need for your modeling plans, and buy it. Even if you have to wait, it'll be cheaper in the long run.

RE: Am I Making A Mistake ??
Its all about options, In a choice between the 7C and 9C the 9C is the obvious choice being a far more capable Tx than the 7c.
If the 7C is the 2.4 only version and you do acquire a 2.4 module for your 9C then it has agine more options on what kind of Rx's you can use.
Even if the 9C/2.4 module combo ends up costing a bit more than the 7C the 9C reamins a better value, better features and an obvious choice.
Even another option that is open to the 9c over the 2.4 only 7C is that you have the choice of using the Hitec 2.4 system module and Rx if you choose. Key advantage is the Rx's are and will remain considerably less expensive which adds up as you add aircraft to your hanger. This system is in my opinion even better than the Futaba Fast system. It is the only one which will give you a low battery warning of the airplane pack While in flight. This just did recently save my butt in flight when I made an error in my charging routine the night before.
Yes the 9C with a 2.4 module is an obviously wiser choice.

I have the Futaba 9C I just upgraded to 2.4GHz (with the Futaba FASST module). It's a fine transmitter. As John B. said: you still get a 9 channel and that beats a 7 channel hands down. Now, if the 10C were at a compaable price . . .

I own DX7, Futaba Fasst, and a Airtronics RDS8000 and they all work well. About the only 72mhz system I would ο½ο½ο½

I still say 9C. It may cost you a little more now. The 9C however is leaps and bounds ahead of a 7C. Don't think the 7c is a 9c with two less channels. They are not even in the same class. IMHO.

RE: Am I Making A Mistake ??
I have a new 10C I have been tinkering with. The display is way better on the 10. The 9 however is a little faster to run through the menus on. They have a similar layout, but the 10 has a small joystick above the wheel. The wheel only rotates and pushes in. I am sure I will get used to it, but for now the 9 is the easiest to program of anything I have messed with.

RE: Am I Making A Mistake ??
I like my 9C, but there is no way I would shell out the money for the Futaba FASST 2.4Ghz system. There are so many options for modules that you can buy for the Futaba 9C. I just bought a Module and Rx from FrSky for about $65 shipped. There are others, (Assan, Corona, FlyDream, Hitec, etc...)
The 9C is a great start, but don't forget to factor in the cost of the Rx every time you buy or build an airplane.

Just remember that when you buy a 2.4 Ghz Tx system, you are hitching your wagon to that manufacturer for their receivers too. Their are a lot of good systems coming out of China as of late. They are getting a little bit of press, and what I have heard, they are looking pretty good.

The Hitec module for Futaba transmitters is the best deal going that I've seen. Their receivers are priced right too, especially for the 6 channel.
