Lookyj,

Yep, Google is the greatest. Tried others, no comparison. I'm sure the AR6100 will work out great, just make sure TX setting are good, advantage of the DX7, you can always tweak to your hearts content. GWS DD tail, got one on order, can't wait to try it out. Total order for the night $174, oh, crap... Got the G90 ordered. Tax returns paid for everything.

I'm thinking about gettin', one of those Blade Axe helis, just to try it out. My LHS has them for $199, RTF.

Was going to bed, but got a second wind, hmmmmm, maybe the BEER helped.(Yuk-Yuk). Like my BEER too.

choppers...

I agree with you, Google is a great search tool. That's where I always start with my research.... AND how I've found all the info I've posted in the thread....

It MUST be true, I read it on the Internet!

all the research has paid off! "Project Perfect Blade" has ALL planned modifications, (at least for now!)

I've just spent the last couple hours installing the last few components (AR6100 and GWS DD tail).

the install is not complete, I still have to hook up, dress the cables, and program the controller.

I just needed a break, got in a couple flights with my CX2 and grabbed the much needed BEER!

EVERYTHING's better with BEER, especially Helis!

here's some pics

Rick, I'm now gonna focus on uploading your vids next! stay tuned....

rick,

the process has started..... I'm digitizing your tape into my computer system as I type... From what I've seen so far, pretty impressive for the first flights.

I too got the DX7 with DS821... my LHS said he DS821's are too big for the TREX 450, but would be great for the TREX size.... what are your plans for the TREX install?

meanwhile -

confusion hooking up the AR6100 to the BCPP 3in1...
figures the AR6100 uses labels as THRO, AILE, ELEV and the BCPP uses numbers ch1, ch2.... hummm

from what I can figure out so far, I have it hooked up like this

AR6100 - BCPP 3in1
AILE - ch1
ELEV - ch2
THRO - ch3
RUDD - ch4
AUX1 - ch5
GEAR - ch6

does this seem correct? any thoughts from the experts, test monkies, or expert test monkies?

Edit -

DO-H, not it..... just bind the AR6100 to DX7, then powered up... G90 won't arm, neither will 3in1.... back to the drawing board...

anyone out there working on a similar project?

Barrick / Rick Dude / Old Phaaart,

Sorry for the bad day, we all have them, more than not. Hmmm, frustrating hobby, so is bowling. Can't get a strike everytime.
Flatblades or Symetrical blades, Hhmmm, I find that flat blades are better in small areas. It really depends on your skill level, others will swear by sym blades. That's something you have to do, trial and error. What works best for you.

You have made an awesome purchase, DX7, Trex, with the JR Pack... Pretty much top of the line for a 300 or 400 class heli..

Take it slow and be patient, that works wonders, less crashes and saves $$$$$$$.

And for me too, the Trex 450 class, is as far as I'm going... Age catches up with us, I can tell that the old hand-eye co-ordination isn't what it use to be.

Best to you Rick,
Always,

Dave / Choppersrule

ORIGINAL: Barrrick

BARRRICK here....bad day for OLEPHARTTS also ! had my second blade strike, only this time on the PRO. So, needing to replace blades on the CP and the PRO, drove to the LHS. Got a black glass set for the PRO. Now a question : will the CP fly better , all stock, with FLAT BLADES (woodies) or with SYMMETRICALS (also woodies) both of which I brought home with me.
Big meeting in the LHS with old time friends ( I worked there for two years a while back ) and old friends and customers in the HELI scene. As a result of all these folks, AND these readings in this thread and etc etc.... I spent a little bit of money on what you see in the PIC. Now, this is for the future, REMEMBER I can HARDLY HOVER YET.....
But they tell me the DX-7 combined with the T-REX with the JR SPEC. PACK OF DIG.SERVOS that you see, should make a good combo.
Now later I will get the MOTOR, the ESC and the GYRO, only when I can FLY A HELI. But I will assemble it slowly, and I got a LOT OF HELP from my LHS and all my friends there. For the time being I can READ MANUALS and maybe hang the servos, the T-REX is almost all done as it is an ARF.
TODAY the flying in the garage went really really bad. Just could NOT GET IT TOGETHER. Funny but in other things I do, same thing happens.
I hope you get to see my pitiful efforts IF LOOKYJ manages to post for me.
Y'ALL are still the GREATEST GROUP OF PEOPLE.
RICK
AND TO FOLLOW OUR GURU DAVE THIS IS AS FAR AS I AM GOING TO TAKE THIS HELI HOBBY. I can no longer do greasy kid stuff with slimers, drive 50miles for a field, etc...

Lookyj,

Just a thought, unplug everything(servos, motors and what not) see if the 3n1 will arm. Then add one componet at a time, until it won't arm.
Process of eliminatiion.... Hmmmm, TX settings too. Not familiar at all with the DX7.

What are your throttle travel settings set to? Set your low throttle travel to -10% and see if it arms. The receiver needs to receive a 1 millisecond or shorter pulse stream from the receiver before it will arm. If I am not mistaken, the Gyro needs the same signal.

Do you by any chance run a seperate esc for the main motor? If you do, do you have the signal wire from the throttle in on the 3 in 1 and the signal from the esc connected to the throttle out on the receiver?

yes,

I have the 20amp brushless esc from Eflite with the 370 brushless main.

CPPROMAN doesn't say anything about the labels for GEAR and AUX1... I'm also using brushless and G90 HH gyro.... I labeled each ch as I removed from the stock RX. I'm assuming I need to use all 6 channels (which incl. AUX1 and GEAR) as the stock RX was a six channel receiver. Just confused on what goes where... then there's so settings in the DX7.... hummmm I copied the settings and programmed into my DX7... but still

CONFUSED!

LookyJ...on the DX6, gear is open and aux is pitch (I think). Might help.

Sometimes...you have to slap yourself around to remind yourself you're still new to this. Been hovering without training wheels for about a week. I'm thinking...geesh...this SOB is squirrely. I can hold rock solid hovers and the like, fly it 90deg to me with out a lot of problems without the training wheels, but it didn't feel the same. I backed the D/R back to 75% on EL0 and AIE0...seen a little change but not what I was looking for. Just for grins...I threw the training wheels back on. MAN...what a difference! Now it's back to blimp flying. I didn't realize how much those darned things weighed. It mellowed the pro WAY down. I took the training wheels off because of the tight area I was practicing 90deg full side (L/R) in, and I aquired the snappy characteristics of the CP Pro immediately, especially running D/R at 100% both channels. I dont have bad batteries or bad motors...just a bad case of NOOB. We're awake NOW! I really need to get outside...BAD. Training wheels will be staying for a while. I'm profecient at hovering tail in and 90deg full side...that's about it. I still really lack confidence with the Pro and I need real stick time.

I just ordered a 11.1V 800mha from them. I think I got jst connector around here someplace. I think one of my Eflite batteries (11.1v 800mha) is dying on me. Heli don't hover good with it and it don't last too long at all...shot. Just read it out...all three 11.1V or so. I know I got motor issues, that why I ordered them.

Hi all,
I have a questuon for you. On my cp when I have the throttle trim @ center and I move the tail by hand ,the tail blade will spin.Is the a sign of the tail motor going bad?
Also I bouhgt the g90 for my cpp and deceided to let it set for a while and learn on the cp.Can the g90 be put on the cp? Would it be a good thing If I change out the cyrstals from the tx that came with the cp and put them into the tx that came with the cpp to have use of the 5 channel?

Rsking45,

On the CP with the throttle trim at mid point and you move the tail by hand, it is normal for the blade to spin, that is the gyro in the 4n1 doing it's thing to correct yaw. Move the tail the other way and the blade will stop spinning.

I'm not 100% sure that moving the crystal from the CPP TX to the CP TX would work. But I belive it will work, should only take a few minutes to do. If it doesn't work, you've lost nothing but some experiment time.

Crashcrash, what do you thing?

Wick246,

Slow down my friend and regroup... Get one of the helis all put back together and take the time to set it up mechanically first off.
Secondly, when flying or hovering, make small stick movements 1/8 to a 1/4 inch is plenty.. I think you may be overcorrecting with the stick inputs. Remember, you fly the heli, it won't fly by itself.

Frustration!

I picked up some more parts last night locally and replaced the main shaft, blades and flybar on cp #2. I spent most of last night and a good chunk of this morning getting it back together. I was going to fly in my back yard but the unfriendly neighbors were outside and I didn't want an audience so I packed up and found an empty church parking lot. I didn't even get it in the air for more than a few seconds and set it down hard. Next try I moved to the grass and only had it up for a short time and had to drop it before I hit a brick wall - bent the new main shaft and flybar I had just put in. The shrink wrap on end of my new blades is cracked and coming off but the wood seems to be ok. So rather than packing it in I grabbed cp #1 and went in the back yard. This time I got it up and flew for a little longer but started to see the dreaded vertical hop and it became hard to get enough lift to keep it airborne. Bad motor is my first guess so I came in and traded the 10 tooth for a used 9 tooth I had in the parts bin. Flew it in the living room before I had to set it down hard again and wrapped the blades up again. [:@][:@][:@] I had to give up for today on real flight - might try the sim for a bit.

Two problems really - mechanically my birds are not trimmed and are a handful. Plus I seem to be dead at the controls today almost not reacting at all.

The crystals don't matter. Any 72Mhz crystals will work on any 3-1 or 4-1 if that's what your asking. I switched out 72.870's and 72.210's between the 3-1 and 4-1 with no problem (CP to CP Pro and vise versa). I just woke up and I feel like someone hit me with a train so I might not be understanding your question.

Swinging the tail with the heli spooled up in your hand it is NORMAL for it to speed up in one direction and slow down in the other. If you swing it with enough force in one direction...the tail rotor will stop spinning...yes...very normal, the 3-1 or 4-1 is doing it's job.

This morning I feel MORE a part of this group. It had to happen, changing the blades first then changing the CP from standard to SuperSkids meant that I have begun to solve the SEEING EYE sight problems with all these microsize items. I managed pretty well, so I went over the first hurdle.
Going to look for another Light WITH MAGNIFYING GLASS. Here is what my ex-standard CP looks like as of this morning. The Blades ( plastics, flat) and the SuperSkids from Charlie's Hobby in Arizona. He is OK, and all the items worked very well.
My NEXT NIGHTMARE is coming up..... SOLDERING/UNSOLDERING that TAIL MOTOR !!!!
I think my FIRST FLIGHTS with all 3 Helis is made available today to view, courtesy of our GENIUS RESIDENT : LOOKYJ....thanks Pal.

LOL...green beer and a quick hover don't mix. I seriously had myself convinced that the drinking and flying rule only applied to Wild turkey. As soon as I get home from buying some new spindles, and JST connecters and spare tail motor wires, I should be good to go. No more showing off my heli after 10 pm. My gf did say that was one of the best pileups she had seen.............. The bookcase now cringes when I walk past it with a TX in hand and all my fish go into hiding. Like they don't trust me, I only set the heli along side it.....not in it...........................

Barrick,

Great picture of the heli and the super-skids, see ya got the old BEAD on the tail support.
Now get with it and learn to solder, you have all day.

Waiting on the videos,, doo-dee-dooo,,, doo-dee-dooo. Hmmmm, while waiting, I feel this need to order something, I have all day to ponder on this, my wife and daughter are out shopping.

Barrick,

Here's a magnifing thing with third hand. I have one like this and works great, has alligator clips to hold wires and things while soldering.
Your LHS may have one of these puppies.

Thanks Dave - your right. Gonna choose one of the three airframes I have and start over. I'm taking breaks from that and flying the cp on the simulator. Will be very happy if I can get one of these set up and flying correctly, at least long enough that I can get some real air time in. You all have me eyeing dx6's on ebay, I'm trying to learn by experience rather than just throwing money at it but I just know that radio would solve ALL of my problems and I would instantly be a 3d pilot.
