hey i just flew my arc 28-48-2 settup in the fj on 4s and with a 6x5.5 apc prop it was pulling about 60 amps and 930max watts and then dropped to about 890-900 after a few seconds...it was so much fun to fly i just wish i had a speed sensor to see how fast it was
thanks
bigdog

ps do you guys think it would be safe on 5s with a smaller prop

alex_scratch_built,

MEGA 16/25/2 2650KV on 5S in a Funjet at 37,000+ RPM (possibly up to 38,500 RPM) {would be more RPM is prop load was less but less power too}

http://www.youtube.com/user/rolexcom.../0/QJaSQ_1q4dA

This video was not made for Doppler speed pass, it was just for the owner to have fun.

He had CC ICE 100A ESC and Eagle tree data logger. Full size heat sink and as you can see he used throttle control wisely.

His Eagle Tree pitot tube speed sensor (which does not get effected by wind...think airspeed, not ground speed) showed accelerating from 57 MPH to 127 MPH in 3.0 seconds…..70 MPH gain in 3.0 seconds starting at almost 60 MPH….WOW

Prop was on the high side: APC Sport 6X4 and AMPs peaked at 95A and unloaded nicely to just about 80A because of 1.5:1 diameter to pitch ratio prop.

5S-3000 30C pack kept the AMPs from going much higher with that size prop but they were still big enough to handle the AMPs fine.

No need to run that much prop either.....but his acceleration was insanely high.

Graupner CAM 5.5X5.5 would be too much in Funjet considering limited airflow to motor….but Graupner CAM 5.2X5.2 or APC E 5.25X4.75 or APC E 5X5 might be worth experimenting with….maybe even APC E 5.5X4.5 on high side.
Summer temps might change the name of the game too.

Remember MEGA will do repairs but you need to wait. MEGA will repair a motor in 7-10 days after getting it…the rest of the time is shipping to and from Europe …..only if anything ever happens.

MEGA 16/25/2.5R 2200
But I tested it more like 2300 KV range, I will recheck KV.

The props order below is in same order of increasing load as you see on the graph
I started with full TP 4S-5000 30C battery…but forgot to first discharge my usual 5% capacity (mAH) before starting my prop tests.

APC E 5X5 , recorded @ 1.5% discharged Battery
APC E 5.5X4.5 , 2.4% discharged battery
APC Sport 6X4 , 3.1% battery
Graupner 5.5X5.5 , 3.9%
Aeronaut 6X5.0 E Carbon , 4.7%
APC E 6X5.5 , 5.6%
APC Pylon 6.5X5.0 , 6.6%
APC Pylon 6.5X6.0 , 8.6% {This was tested after prop below but had slightly less load}
APC Sport 7X4 , 7.7%
APC Sport 7X5 , 9.7%
APC Pylon 6.5X6.5 , recorded @ 10.9% discharged battery = @ 545 mAH discharged

The recorded data was @ 1.0 seconds after initial meaningless peak AMP spike.
Eagle tree eLogger V3 150A was set at 10 samples per second.

Even if you are running a full size MPI style heat sink, I suggest that you do not run more than 80A in a Funjet due to available airflow to cool motor. Efficiency goes down after that……Maybe 90A in A Stryker if you really know what you are doing.

This motor begs for 5S in a Funjet.

….maybe even 6S for those of you believing that a very small prop is o.k. in a Funjet at VERY high speeds:
6S bench test:
APC E 5X5 , @ 8% of 6S-2200 35C
78.39 A
1679 W
38,610 RPM

*Don’t forget heat sink and some throttle control to be safe….the prop above has fairly decent efficiency.

one more 6S test:
APC E 4.75X4.75 , @ 7% of 6S-2200 35C
71.26 A
1541 W
40322 RPM

My motor is the 16/25/2.5RC , the letter “C†denotes combat shaft which is 5mm
5mm shaft has 2.4 times more metal than 3.2mm shafts and there is no bending that in a mishap….LOL

Above motor shows a motor with same size and weight and similar KV as ARC 2 turn but it has AMP handling capability of ARC 1.5…..but with MEGA ULTRA quality and in my case: 5mm Shaft.

Wow Gryphon, you rock!...

I always(for now) use throtle control but I am always suprised to see how cool my 16/25/2 is when it lands.
One thing that confuses me a bit is that my motor comes direct from Czech Republic and it seems to have slighlty different specs from the US version. I got it from icare-rc.com
If you look at this: http://www.megamotor.cz/v3/script/de...ge_id=lang_eng

<table cellspacing="1"> <tbody> <tr> <td>16/25/2</td> <td>4-16/3-6</td> <td>2470</td> <td>40</td> <td>/2-5</td> <td>7,5</td> <td>2</td> <td>115</td> <td> </td> </tr> </tbody></table>
you will notice that the kv is 2470 and not 2650 like everyone is saying.

Thanks for those amazing responses!!! and awsome data collection

alex_scratch_built ,

I should have my motor back in my hands in 2-3 week. (Edit...maybe 1 week).

It is a 16/25/2 which I had converted to 5mm from 3.2mm during its rebuilt.

I am aware of what you just mentioned.....so that will be the first thing that I will check with brushless RPM sensor.

MEGA says there was some magnet change about a year ago.

We will see.

one of the set screw?? allin screws??

if so no way I would not even trust CA or epoxy try going to ACE hardware or finding a new or I could look around my stuff and the hobby shop where I go and get you one and send it to you
dont use glue to hold the control arm to the horn

Ok, I am really frustrated now. I am having a really hard time screwing the motor into the mount in the back of the plane. Anyone have any ideas? Also the bottom screw seems like it doesnt go into any materal to hold it down. I think i stripped the flathead screws Help!

You can go to the LHS and look for small long bolts to go thru the holes you may have to drill out with a 1/16" bit. I think the bolt size is 4-40 or 2-56 hex head or phillips will work...
Measure the length you need...I would use nylon insert nuts to keep them tight (self locking) Get washers also...... fender washer if they stock them....fender washers are larger dia. but not the hole size.

I use this to attach my mounts to the flat deck...works every time.

Mount adjustment will be the same as on a stock mount...your just going thru the holes...questions???
