Progress report:
Wing, stab, elevator, fin, and rudder all have their initial covering.
Now to see if I carry out the plan on the fuselage!

Epoxied the Vertical Fin on tonight. Normally, I do the Stab first, but because the back of a stick has little structure to it until the fin is installed, I'm trying it this way instead. I'd hate to epoxy the stab on with those loose back sides in the wrong place for the fin.
No more ironing tonight. All the plugs are busy charging for Saturday afternoon.

Hey Nergal,
What are you using for hinges for your ailerons? I have had this Lazerworks short kit Stik for 3 years and now just getting it together. Fuse is assembled and the wing is together except for the top trailing edge because I want to put pieces of solid trailing edge inside the trailing edge sheeting so the hinges (probably Robart) will have some meat to hold them. I plan on bolting the wing on as you did.

I did the same thing you are suggesting. I added some small blocks of wood where the hinges will go.

I have some CA hinges I plan to use. Robart hinges are probably better.
I also ended up sliding some chunks of balsa in where the bolts pass through the trailing edge. Not sure if this was necessary, but it felt better.

We bought a scanner for all those cellouse pictures we took. But, I think I have used it more to scan kit parts in case I need to replace them later!

Back in the 70's, I built a Stick version which I think was kitted by Midwest, but I can't remember what it was called. It was 46 inch span I think and designed for .19 to .25 engines. I used a ST .23 and it flew well. Any body know what it was called and a source of plans?

I had a Sweet Stick from the 80's. Yours sounds slightly smaller though. (I think the Sweet Stick was around 54" span.)
However, at least a couple of the Midwest Stick variants are on file and available for order from AMA.
OK, found this in the AMA listings:
DAS LITTLE STIK
46" Span
MIDWEST KIT PLAN, NO WING PLAN
$10.00
AMA #50394

Just remembered that Lazer Works makes a short kit for that one. You might check with them on where to get the plans.

I just finished the Midwest Little Stick that Lazerworks cut. It flies great, I went electric with that one Eflight Power 25, swinging a 12-8 prop. Uses a 3500 mah 3 cell. I'll take some photos of it with all it's gear on this one is just after putting on the covering.

Wish I could laser cut these decals like the ones in this post!
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8717525/tm.htm
However, I'm making slow progress with my scissors. As he commented in the linked post, the cut out film is very easy to apply. I just hope it stands up to wear as well.
I'd be further along, but I spent most of my free time this weekend at the flying field!

So, where did you obtain the plans then? Are the AMA plans enough with the short kit in hand?
[/quote]
Lazerworks has the DLS plans and if I remember it costs about 10 dollars extra. Here are a couple of pix of the finished Das Little Stick.

This is the word from Lazerworks RE the kit and plans

Nergall,
Here are some pixs of my Lazerworks Jensen Stik. As I said before I bought this short kit 3 years ago and after building about 15 other planes I decided I would get this thing built. Plan on using an OS 61SF which I recently purchased, it was NIB for 80 bucks. I used spruce for the spars and leading edge. The center section of the T-edge is 1/8 ply. I have yet to put the ply sheer webs in and the wing dowels. The fuse uses standard size servos for rudder and tail and an 82 MG hitec for throttle. Plan on putting servos in the wings like yours in hatches.

(Lol, first time I read that I thought you planned to put the OS 61 in the DLS!)

Das Little Stick by Midwest Models $51.29
#97

Do you plan on the single dowel in the center, or two dowels?
2 Dowels is how I usually make my stiks. My F2 bulkhead on the Jensen stik I made from 3/16 Plywood rather than the soft 1/4 balsa the kit came with. Also made some 1/16 ply nose reinforcements on the vertical walls.

Then I guess you add some wood to the center of the wing to support them?
When you get that far along, I'd love to see how. I know other planes have a chunk of solid balsa there, but on those models I've done, there is wing sheeting to help hold it in place.
Though, while I had my doubts, the single dowel does seem VERY strong.

What I plan to do is Drill the 1/8 ply Sheer for the dowels and then add some 1/8 ply to the front of the front spar (turbulator). The dowels go just below the leading edge and are epoxied to both plates. The center section will be sheeted also. I generally use carbon Fiber for the dowels. I take a pic of it when I get that far. As I look back at the wing design I think the wing would be a lot torsionally stronger if built via a "D" tube construction.

Another option for the DLS builder. I've been thinking about one myself. Has anyone flown this?
