okay, i had a thought. i dont like the fact that the shocks are sooo weak and this thought jussed popped into my head. the shocks are filled with oil and oil isnt very dense, so it is easily compressed, but what if you filled them with a denser material... this would theoretically give the shocks more strength without changing the springs. has anyone else ever thought about this or actually done it? if not just sleep on it and if anyone wants to try it, tell me what happens. thanks

The problem with the hole in the diff being closed when bolted down, is that it must be bolted down to fill with oil... Which you can't do, since the case needs to be split in order to fill, but I think the vearings will leak the oil out anyway, so I will stick with grease or now until a suitable (cheap!) diff comes along...
The shocks are especially weak in the rear of the car. Backing off the travel limiting screws will help a lot (screws on the bottom of the arms, through the chassis) and give a higher ride height.
The different fluids will control the damping effect. I changed mine out to a 40 weight, r/c car damper oil. It's cheap for a good size bottle.
For taking jumps, look for a stronger spring, but be careful, as a stronger spring will put more stress on the weak plastic threads of the damper assembly. A replacement damper assembly and spring made from aluminum will be much better, and I think someone mentioned the car it would fit from, a while back in the posts.

hehehehe, Another way to get extra height is to butcher the chassis X-D

As for the diffs, mine are loaded with grease ^.^ Oil will be too runny and it would leak.

trino for grease i use an "automotive bearing and chassis" lubricant. its just thick grease.
you'll notice a huge difference in the drive train. especially if you install bearings. smooth.

Thanks, Banx... I was thinking lithium grease, but I don't think it will stick as good as automotive bearing grease... I may try both and see which I like better. As long as it is safe for rubber and plastics...

I bought a buggy from ebay and After running it 2 times it doesn't start up. I noticed that the rear drive shaft and joint is missing. Even after adjusting the carb needle as it says in the manual, it still doesn't start. My Local hobby shop doesn't carry parts for this buggy, could you give me a couple online places where I can get parts fast. I live in california. I have noticed that rc mart and other online stores with smartech parts ship from china. I would like to find one from Los angeles or somewhere in california. Raiden tech sells the part I need, but they are out of stock. Could I substitute other manafacturer parts for my buggy? Also, this is my first gas nitro car, what should I upgrade in advance that will prevent the buggy from needing to be fixed. Sorry for all the questions, this is my first post on the forum. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Bugs, you need to give us some more information. Did you do a bench break-in? That is the best thing to do. Idling with the wheels off the ground, go through a few tanks of fuel, slightly leaning mixture screw after each tank.
If the pullstart is hard to pull, you have probably flooded it. Remove glow plug and pull 30 times, maybe even pull off the fuel line while doing that. If not, pull air cleaner off and pull, but look for fuel spray in the carb.
Next, pull the glow plug, and install it in the ignitor to make sure it is glowing nice and red. If not, check ignitor battery charge. Sometimes the connection to the battery is dirty and not making good contact.
If the glow plug is working good, it should start.

I unscrewed the glow plug and attached it to the glow plug starter. It did not heat up or anything, I think I need a new starter or new batteries. I am using a quick starter that takes d batteries. Also, the car is missing a drive shaft and drive cup. parts 11260, and 11434. Here is exactly what happened. I started it up and ran it through two tanks, drove it for around 15 minutes and then realized that the back wheels stopped spinning. I noticed that the parts were missing, and after that it did not start up. I think that the starter/igniter is faulty. Should I just buy a rechargeable one. Also, can anyone recommend the best place to order parts for the speedy tiger buggy? Any help would be great, this car was a gift for my son, and now its just sitting in my livingroom doing nothing. Last question, can I upgrade the engine, what engines would fit on this model? Thanks you for all your help

wow, complete noob. By the sounds of it, you havnt broken it in which has probably damaged your glow plug. As for it not starting. BUY NEW BATTERIES FOR IT! But thats unusual for the glow starter to take batteries, or it could be that you need to buy a new glow plug. And how the hell are you missing them parts!! Youve been driving it in fwd which has probably messed up your front differential. When you bought it was it RTR (ready to run) or a kit? Because they just dont fall off. As for your first post, this is the offical smartech thread so I think we know the specs of 1. And what banx said is true, Read before you post. All of your problems have already been answered.

heres a tip too man, if your plunger in your fuel tank fouls. you can put your finger over the stinger on your muffler. thats the nipple thing. anyways plug that and pull your starter cord it will draw fuel to your engine, prime the engine then let go of the stinger, put on your igniter and away you go.

Hey Ryan, it is possible to be missing those parts. Two weeks ago, my rear driveshaft and drive cup vanished from my car completely. I finally found the driveshaft near where I started the car, and the drive cup appeared when I moved my Tempo on the driveway. (it was lodged against the rear tire of the car).
Reinstalled and good to go!
Go easy on the new guy... He is just making sure it is the same car we all have. To Bugs: This buggy should work great for ya. All the tips are good nes to go by, even though I still use the factory receiver, TX, and servos that came with my car, working great. I would someday like to upgrade the engine, but this one works fine for now. Yours will too when you work out the ignitor problem.

Thanks for all the replies, this forum has really helped me out. I am an absolute newbie when it comes to gas rc buggies. I am used to electric racing trucks. I took out my old (10 years old) traxxas and have that being repaired, I spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars in shocks, bearings, tires, transmitters, etc for my electric traxxas and other buggies. I have noticed many of these parts can be used on the gas buggy. I am going to buy a new igniter and get those parts from excelhobby. Thanks again for all your help. Last questions, I am going to order a drive cup from excel hobby, part 11260, do I need to also buy a hexagonal screw, or will it come with the parts needed?
This question is for TRINOGT, was it pretty easy to install the cups and drive shaft back onto the buggy, or will I have to take apart anything?

I believe the drive cup will come withthe set screw... You are talking about the allen head screw, right? It attaches the drive cup to the rear diff shaft.
You should not have to disassemble the car to attach the new shaft and cup. I install the cups loose, then work the shaft in before tightening the set screws. A little tedious, but you will get it. Before long, you will have taken the whole car apart, so don't worry about this little job! Haha.
Excelhobby is great. They sent me an email to tell me my order was received. They did not, however, respond to my email reply about the clutch I received being the wrong one for my car, or that the wheel hubs needed machining before installing. they need better customer service in that area.

meisenhut31 - your clutch has gone. Take your fuel tank off, then unscrew the the alen key screw and then take the clutch bell off. either the shoes have melted or the spring has broke.
trinogt - How the hell do you loose them parts lol. And yea thats true, their customer service is ****e but they stock all of the smartech parts :P

if you guys keep losing dog bones out of the drive cups you can get some copper pipe and cut it to fit over the drive cups, it prevents them from spreading under load. i'm sure thats why your parts just go "missing".

banx, the drive cup came off because the set screw backed off enough to let it slide off the differential axle... I like the copper pipe idea still, because it might keep the shaft and cup from falling off if it loosesn again. I picked up some Loctite for things like set screws, so I shouldn't have to worry as much about them anymore. lol!
As for the Meisenhut problem, I bet the clutch spring broke. If you have the two speed, excelhobby will not have the right parts, as it seems they only have one-speed clutch parts. I got the clutch shoes with spring, but the shoes are useless with this clutch bell; However, the spring is a perfect fit. You will have perfectly useless shoes out of the deal, but maybe you can sell them to someone here with a one speed buggy.
If ANYONE knows where to get the two-speed clutch shoes and bell, please post here!
(I know about the kevlar shoes from another brand that was mentioned... but looking for oem parts)

How fast does excelhobby ship? Can anyone reply to their shipping speeds. I live in CA. Any other ideas on keeping that drive shaft and joint in place?

trinogt, go to this link, it is in New Zealand, but they carry every Smartech part there is, including parts for my Vanguard Sport. (The only place it seems in the world I can get parts, lol!) They say they only ship to Australia, New Zealand and the USA. They are very helpful and respond quickly to emails. Hope this helps you out.
