Comp ARF Flash update

Hi Kc36330,
I thought of the same idea, but if you look inside the cockpit carefully once the wing comes on, all the air that can be sucked from the bottom in front of the wing would be blocked by the wing.

naa, there's a fair size gap between the bottom of the inlet ducting (in the V area) and the top of the wing in that area. also on the sides of the inlet ducts.
you could also cut part of the inlet ducting where the two sides join and that would allow even more air from the front.

KC you seem to know the flash inside out. I just took a look at the bottom of the inlet ducting ( v area). And in my flash it seems this is flush with the wing saddle when viewed from the side of the fuse. Anyway will join the wing tomm and check this as well as the cg once again. will a difference of 365mm and 362 mm make a world of a difference in landing config?
Anyway will run the turbine tomm without the wing on just to confirm the engine trouble is due to lack of air, once this is confirmed i will come back to you for some more advice.
Regards
Chaitanya.

it won't be a problem at 365, and some people even prefer a more nose heavy setup, i like a neutral setup so that's what i try to adjust for.
worst case on the air flow, just trim some of the inlet ducting in the V area out, it won't be too noticeable looking in the intakes and it gives more area for air from the front to get to the back.

Just got my flash last week. Jolly Roger Scheme... It Looks awesome!! Thanks again to Andy Kane did a great job was a pleasure to talk to. I also made a mistake and he took care of it right away. I had ordered a fuse tank instead of the wing tank. He bought the fuse tank back from me and instead of sending me the money he bought the wing tank for me.
I do have one question regarding the servo extensions are they pretty much the size the manual calls for????

After reading much of this post, I am currently assembling my Jolly Rogers Flash. It has a Simjet 3000 for power. I plan on using the stock pipe, Naca ducts, BVM heat shield cloth above the stab, ProLink struts on the Behotec retracts. I have the main tank, wing tank, header tank and UAT. I plan on having reduced flap settings and will also use some crow. I think I am comfortable with the throws for elev and ailerons with expo(I usually like to have the extra throw).
Is there anything I may have missed that I should look at doing during the build?

You may want to check out post # 118 & # 127 in the following thread if you dislike pull pull steering cables.

I've only got two suggestions and neither may pertain to you being you're in Canada..............on hot days the stock tires will still depart the rim (even the new harder compound ones), glue them to the rim, and with the Jolly Roger scheme on those days when you got nice blue skies with fluffy white clouds she glows and you can see her for miles but when hurricane season rolls in and brings those low small clouds by the thousands she'll go stealth on you, i added alum tape to the leading edge of my wings and it made a world of difference in visibility in those cloud filled skies.

I guess you use goop or similar to glue the tires onto the rim.

You're correct that the tires still depart the wheels...after 5 flights on the "new and improved, guaranteed not to come off " tires from Dreamworks, mine departed on takeoff last weekend. I'm going to drill/tap the wheels like BVM and if that doesn't work, I'm throwing the whole retract system in the trash.

i used a CA called 'Black Max' it's black and is made for bonding rubber materials to metal.

send em to me before you toss them out
it did tick me off when it caused the chrome to flake off my rims from landing on them but the damage is mostly cosmetic due to the low speed you can land the Flash at.

Hi Garry, without knowing what surface you fly off but if you have limited take off and landing facilities beware of the weight you are carrying. I flew my flash today powered by a wren ss.I have a home made fuselage tank which carries 3.5.liters or there about and I only fuel it to 2 litres and always wait for a day with a good head wind and the grass is well mown. I also have a Simjet 3000 but at my age I wouldn't consider installing it in my flash. It is fast enough with the 18 pound wren, but thats a peresonal thing. I would also heed the advice on take off and landing flap deflection discussed earlier in the thread. It is a fabulous flyer and you will thouroughly enjoy flying it. Let us all know how you get on, Ron.

depends on where you put the receiver, i always make all my own extensions so they are exactly the right length, makes a much cleaner install.

I was also able to get the futuba 9155's to fit in the stabs for the Elevators. Jet 1a retracts and and Trailing Lynx were here before the plane arrived.
Placing the rest of my servo and extension order tonight. As far as power I am not sure what I am going with at the present time. I have the Falcon in the Boomer Sprint I can take out, but I think I may just wait and go for the P160 instead

I am starting to plum all the tanks (wing, fuse, hopper,) should I use a felt clunk for all 3 tanks? I know I read on here
somewhere that it was a good suggestion to use one for the fuse tank, the wing tank came with one and so did the hopper.
I am also going to use a UAT if that matters. I figure the little hopper will fuel my way from where I take off the external tank to the take off posistion
on the Runway.
I was not sure if the felt clunks in all the tanks would restrict fuel from getting to the pump. Or if it would make the pump work Harder.

personally i don't like or use the felt clunks, they always seam to cause fine air bubbles in the line when fuel is being drawn from them. if you're going to use them I'd suggest only in the main tank.
#869
I'd suggest to use only 1 in the header tank. In the other 2 its not required.
Make sure that you have a good filter when you're pumping fuel from your field tank to the model

Almost finished with the flash. As is my flying season. What size smoke tanks are you guys using? I noticed in alot of the picts that there
are 1 on each side of the fuse. Just wondering what size tanks and aprox how long minute wise does the smoke last.
Thanks

Dubro 24 oz, most other name brand 24's are the wrong dimensions to fit. i can get about 3-3.5 min of full ON time with the 48oz but used for accenting it lasts most of the 7 min flight for me.
