if you dont mind having to trim the body then you could get any size tire that you want, but beware the bigger the outer diameter of the tires the crappier the handling will be, and being higher up will also make your truck flip over much easier

Years ago I tried bigger tires and I would have had to do more then trim my body but that was back when it was all MT 1 with the shorter A arms. All so the bigger the tires the more stress you put on all the drive train and engine.

I agree as the only new MT2 I would consider buying would be the MT 2 18 SS. The RTR has to many weak spots and I all so do not do RTR for years.
If you guys could give me an opinion on this deal:

http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFun...n&ItemID=20385

Why does the deal kit that comes with this have a 'toggle' controller when the car doesn't go into reverse. Also...The deal doesn't seem to come with a battery and charger yet is says the deal contains everything I need to get it running. Opinions?

ok first of all the package comes with batteries. an that truck doesnt need a charger.. it's a pull start not a roto start so u dint need a charger. i really dont likethe toggle though i once used my dad's toggle controller and i liked it but once i started to use thegun type i found that u have way better control.. if i were u i would try to find anotherdeal without the toggle.. but then again u might liketoggle better

i'd say it's a good deal... for that price... just when you get it, run it a little then upgrade...new engine, radio, etc...

Thanks for the advice. I think what I might do is just buy the basic car as it comes, and buy the other items seperately so I can get the gun-style controller.

I'd like to clear something up though - I'm a bit confused. I thought that most RC cars required an on-board battery pack for all the electrics to run from. Does the 18SS come with one of those as standard (plus charger?)

Aha, cheers. Question: Does the 18SS require less battery power in that case? (and if so, why?) The MT2 RTR comes with one of those large batteries from what I can tell.

they both come with just a battery holder... but 99.9% of people upgrade to the RX pack... usually a 6volt one... 5cell... longer periods between charging, and more power to the electronics... that's acutally my next upgrade

Ran the MT today and I am about ready to take the TZ out and get a CV as I am tried of my wheel hexes in the wheels stripping even with the metal hex and that was with a set of ware out tires. I all so shoot out my rear differential, which I cannot complain as it is my first ring and pinion in over 4 years I ever messed up. What got it was the screws from the ring gear backed out of the diff cup and striped the pinion from the ring gear not meshing properly. All so had a bearing going bad. I am going to gear it up even more and see if this helps.

I am running a 15 CB and a 49 spur. I am going to change the spur to a 47. Since I put the TZ in seems I cannot get more then a couple tanks of run time before tearing something up normally the wheel hexes. I all so am going to do a total service while I wait on the ring and pinion gears to get here. All ready put a 47 tooth spur and new bearings on the slipper, spur shaft. Will be changing shock oil and checking out the front dig.

I am all so thinking about JB Weld the metal hex in to a new set of wheels and see what happens.

Thanks for all the information guys. This forum is an invaluable resource!

From experience would you guys rather a roto-start car, or a pull-start, and why?

I've been researching quite a lot the last two weeks, but you guys seem to have convinced me to spend a little more dosh and get the 18SS. I think it'll be worth it in the long run. The MT2 RTR seems to require a lot of extras just to get it up to scratch.

I'll post up some pics, no problemo. I'm hoping to order the car on Thursday for delivery on Friday. As luck would have it I have a few days off work, so I can spend my time over those days putting it together and running it in (if all goes smoothly!)

He will need CA glue as the SS is a kit and the tires are not glued to the rims.

Do you have a link, per chance, to the required glue for the tyres?
