I'm going to a big international race this weekend.. I am gonna' get massively spanked.. - it's gonna be all like sponsored drivers with RC8T's, ST-RR's..., etc with RB C6's and the whole shebang.. I hadn't even planned on considering it, but then I read that some places had freed up, and yeah, it's in my "home"-town, so I might as well put this €1000 toy truck to use....
I'll try to outdo ya though and aim for second to last..
Here's the drivers' list and what I'm up against:
http://www.messecup-leipzig.de/sneak/pdf/teilnehmer.pdf
I figure something'll break or fall off on the first day, thus freeing up the rest of the weekend.....(As far as I understand, I have to go there like every day - Fri, Sat, and Sun at 8:00.. Friday is a holiday here..)
Gonna be at a huge hobby trade fair, which is kind of cool. I'be been before to a bash event, and what's really crazy is the number of spectators.. - LOTS...
Here's me two years ago.. The race track is across from this little area..

If the link works, look at the crowd.. [X(]

(OK, I see.. You have to look in the gallery..)

I have so far exactly one organized race under my belt. It was a small local race, and I think I was 11 out of 20(would've made the main - or final - if I'd've known where the stupid lap-counter was.. Spun out and came back on without crossing it..) Anyway, that was a much lower level of competition.. I think they have like 3 prelims, semis, and a final. I'll never make the final, but I'm not really kidding when I say not being dead last would be a nice achievement....
At the moment I don't even have a personal transponder, or a pit-man.. Have to sort all that out Friday - hopefully....

lol im pretty much a novice too. race on a tiny track that we lay out on a field each week.
Right thats my mounts on their way, a few wee checks with the Vernier when they arrive and ill let You guys know how the mods go.
Entered an endurance race in two weeks, so i need the engine to stay in one place!
Oh another wee nifty mod i found, anyone in search of an excellent effortless brake mod should try out cen matrix buggy calipers and pads, Work a treat with the existing discs and literally flip the car over if your not carefull.

Yeah, knuckles, that what I meant..
My main prob with the Hyper so far has been the stupid CNC knuckles.. Both sides had the screws strip out - by themselves.. And yep - threadlocked everything.. Fixed it by runninga a screw the other way through with a nut on the bottom.. Quite a few here in Germany have had problems too.. Seems problem number 1 in one of the main forums..
I've been keeping my eyes out for some CEN ones..
(not mine..)

I haven't broken mine yet and I've cartwheeled off a jump all the way across the track over at Rev and also hit a sprinkler post coming off a jump. This truck is sure tough! The most problems I've seen here is the diffs and the gas tank. The diffs tend to leak. You have to get them filled just right. The gas tank tends to feed air bubbles into the engine thus running lean. It turns out that the screw on the lid sucks and does not let the rubber o-ring seal the tank properly thats why people shoot for the mugen tank. I'm still running the original tank. I just placed a bigger screw and washer on the lid to replace the small stock screw. That is what tends to strip thus not allowing you to expand the o-ring and seal the lid. I have to say that now I have my truck dialed in just right. I've been practicing and racing and its been great. Haven't had any issues and the Picco .28 is a beast. Now I'm going to try a 10k/20k/5k setup on this truck and see how it drives. I had 7k/20k/2k and the rear breaks loose really quick. Too much power![>:]

That's not mine!! Just a pic from someone else on a German forum.. I HAVE though had both knuckles strip out the bottom screws.. AND, this seems to have happened to almost everybody here..
May be something screwy in my steering, cuz of running a Hitec servo and having to use a shorter arm or something.. I don't know. But the CNC knuckles have made anything but a good impression.. They stripped out REALLY REALLY easily.. Just like all kinds of guys here in Germany said they would..

Hey, I need %110 confirmation that the CEN knuckles %110 fit correctly.... Forgot who it was - vnmsgt??
Also, would the carriers also work?? Look in the CEN Matrix truggy thread - tree is selling some used knuckles and new carriers....
I was checking over my Hyper today, and noticed my front right knuckle was wobbly - AGAIN.. Godd.amn threads are rounded out - that happened back like after the second tank.. Anyway, I ran a screw down through the hole, with a locktited nut on the bottom side. Had to do the same thing on the left side last time I ran the truck... Didn't really check the left side today - will 2moro.. Anyway, on the right, the hole in the knuckle is egged out - so there's wobble.. I dig the Hyper, but I fxxxing hate these knuckles...
I wonder if it's all cuz I had to run a shorter servo arm, and the steering geometry is all off or something...
Thanks..

i don't see anything causeing those screws to strip. I'm certain the cen knuckles will fit as my matrix is running hyper st knuckles at the minute and they fit like a dream. Not sure about the hubs, i don't think they fit but i could be wrong.

As I've said before, LOTS of people here in Germany have had the same problem.. The knuckles themselves may be strong, but the threads are of butter...
The stupid screw on the top I had to replace, as it was like totally smoothed over with dried up thread-lock... [sm=confused.gif]
I should've taken a pic when I was wrenching today - the lower hole on the right front is totally egg-shaped...
I have already two of the Hyper silver cheapo ones as backups, so I guess I'm alright. On my old Lightning GT I broke one of the stock ones - but only one.. And I bashed that truck hard, and it had huge heavy wheels.. I gotta think the silver cheapo ones are good for at least a few races....

way i see it is you shouldnt need to replace them at all unless its a bad crash. Not to insult your intelligence but are you running the bushings the right way up, the right length of screws, and threadlocking those badboys in tight?

%100 according to the instructions.. Just read some pages back somebody saying you need to use longer screws...
Then I also just read on a German forum that all truggies have this problem.. Once you threadlock them in, when you unscrew them, they're prone to stripping - even Kyoshos etc...

hey we just got a hyper st pro and what are common things that break on them. i can see the knuckles above, but ive also heard radio boxes and brakes as well. if someone could explain why people are replacing these with different ones it would be appreciated.

I know your problem well.. I'm also running a Mach engine from a Muggy..
The problem is 2 things - the stupid Hyper mount, but also the Mach backplate, which is just ridiculously big.. You must have a ridiculous number of washers to make it fit...
Basically, these are your options:
1.) Go with a starterbox.. This is what I did.. I only use my Hyper for the track though, so the whole starter box hassle is just part of the deal.. For bashing I understand though - boxes can be kind of dumb.. The Mach is an awesome engine IMO.. To do this you need part number SWK8057 (type it in at www.amainhobbies.com , and you'll find it..), and yeah, the box with batteries.. The closed backplate bolts right up, no modding, and then your Mach will fit the engine mount perfectly...
2.) Convert to rotostart. You can do this - theoretically - with the rotostart backplate for the XTM 247 engine.. I have this backplate too, but have never tried it..(And don't think I ever will.. My LRP OWB is slipping like crazy - and it gets annoying..)
3.) Get a new engine.. LRP Spec 3, Picco 28, etc have smaller pullstart backplates than the Mach.. I made a Picco fit, but it still needed washers..
Anyway, my advice is just do the starter box.. It's kind of a pain to transport, but ultimately it does eliminate the hassles of a pullstart - it breaking, or a slipping one-way bearing.., and is just all around more reliable.. You'll get a few more RPM's out of that Mach too.. Then later, when you replace the Mach, you'll have many more engine options, cuz most engines nowadays are for starter box anyway.. Good luck..

2.) The radio box is just dumb, because you have to uncrew what, six screws and undo/redo 2 zip-ties to change batteries.. So lots of guys change to the Hyper 8 box. Requires drilling in the chassis though, so I left it.
3.) Some guys have problems with the tank. Apparently its shape causes leaning problems. I haven't had this yet. I do find the tank a bit wobbly, and don't care for the side opening style of it.. Again, putting a Mugen tank in requires drilling the chassis..
4.) Something I haven't heard mentioned much, but next on my list of things to address will be servo-tray flex.. When I brake the flex is pretty extreme. I saw a guy who fixed this by taking one of the plastic wing mounts included in the kid, and fitting it in to make an extra support on the outside of the tray, between the servos...
5.) The mud guards are kind of dumb. So some people use the Losi 8T guards - at least on the pipe-side - to better cover the pipe.. I don't really see an issue there, so haven't messed with it.
6.) The brakes suck. You can fix this with the Cradock disc brakes available at a-main.. I think I'm gonna try some CEN Matrix brakes, cuz somebody here said they were good...(Confirm???)
Anyway, #2-5 are all really minor IMO.. The knuckle thing though is driving me freakin' nuts.... And yeah, my brakes are pretty lame.

I ended up getting two sets of stock ST Pro ones.. Kind of crazy that nobody ever came out with a hopup replacement.. Now it's prob too late...
