Look at us.... Pathetic... Sitting here dreaming of Pamela Anderson waiting for Luke's next post! LOL

Thanks VERY much for the info Richard! I'll go exchange the 15 x 8 for a 14 x 7. Fortunately, I live no too far away from Hobby-Lobby. I've been shopping there (or rather window shopping at first) since I was 16ish. I bought my 1st SIG Kadet kit, Futaba 4-channel, and K&B 40 from them... built it... it looked beautiful to me... and crashed the sheeeyit out of it on the maiden flight. Should have gotten help! That was a lesson I learned very well. Now I do things like sitting here continuing my education. Help is a cool thing. I just picked up the hobby again last summer with much greater success. After a great deal of time on a sim, went to Hobby-Lobby... picked up a Telemaster 40 kit and a new Hitec Optic 6 radio... built it... bolted the ole K&B 40 in front (yep, kept it all that time)... it looked beautiful to me... and flew it quite successfully! Still have that one in fact. Worked my way up from there through a succession of planes: 1. the Graupner Taxi Cup II from hobby Lobby (died in a mid-air), 2. a small 50 size chineese pattern plane off E-bay (great flyer actually), 3. a CA models Funky 40 3D bird I built (looks exactly like the stock photos and is an awesoem flyer), 4. A Seagul 300S with a OS 90 Surpass 4-stroke (didnt' like it all that much), 5. A Graupner 300L Leki (with an old K&B 61 pumper I've had since way back when I came into a free SIG P-51 Kwik Built kit which I still have but is only half built. Love the Leki, don't much care for the SIG P-51, really liking the K&B 61 pumper with Perry carb!), 6. and finally this Hellcat. I have other kits now too. I guess I really dove into this stuff. As you can see, I'm very much a newbie still and I'm trying to soak up as much as I can. So THANKS!

So while we're just sitting here, what's the perfect prop for the .61 on an Extra 300?

I hope your 120 will at least swing a 14 X7 Graupner I have a Saito 100 swinging that....Brings down the idle to 1800 and tops @ about 9000. Dont do it unless she is broke in.

Actually, a 14x8 or 15x6 3-blade would be almost perfect for a normally aspirated 1.20 four stroke, but nobody makes nylon or composite props in those two sizes.

Tom, In my CMP/Hellcat I tried a 16x and found it to be to big for my Saito 1.20.
So I put on a 14x and got around 10.5k RPM out of it and it even sounds better.
A little faster as well.

w4dnq,
what size pitch are you using for the 14" diameter prop? I currently run 15 x 8 APC's for my 120 4 stroke P47. Would it be a 14 x 7 to give you more revs without too much loss in torque?
Regards
Flapper

OK Cat lovers, got some real Grumman art for you. I've been working like a mad man trying to get this cockpit thing done! Thanks again for all the compliments, appreciate it!

I'm using an O.S. .91 on my plane, so can't help with props on yours!

First are the basic parts, not quite done with the instrument panel, but it's close. Got the floor and back armor plate, along with the former that is behind the little windows.

Bet you would like to see them painted?! The back panel is loaded with what I call FREE detail! It don't cost any in weight so why not add it? Can't see it that well but it is visible because the seat sits back away from the rear former.

More to come....

Reline, if you read back a few pages I belive someone tried that very thing. I think they were successful too? Can't remember exactly. Might have been a G-26?

Luke , I have no responcibility in these matters in the event that you offer a interior kit and I order it , no I can not be responcible for that issue .

After temporarily mounting my stab, I found that they were not lined up with the wing, and that they were too long. I then cut the raised area away from the fuselage and found a ply framework mounted between the fuse sides that was only glued in a small area on one side. I removed it . Next I inserted some foam blocks to fill the hole in the front . Next I made two pieces of 1/16" ply that matched the stab airfoils and joined them with small ply pieces I was then able to set the correct incdence ( 90* to the rear edge of the fin ). Next I filled the remainder of the holes with foam. The foam was then given a fiberglass coat. From there is was just a matter of lining things up and gluing, filling and sanding. More pictures to follow.

Thanks iiiat, didn't know you were waiting for one! I have not decided if I am going to sell them, might be to much work.

Thanks John! Never know where I'll strike, never thought it'd be an ARF did ya?[8D]

LDM, you just love scale detail, no one can hold that against you! I might not sell the cockpit kit, so that might help you? If it helps the marriage, I won't sell any!

Man, the instrument panel n stuff is looking so good though! To bad!

Nice job Hal! I looked at your Horizontal Stab fix for awhile, and you inspired me into trying the one piece stab slide in...

Transfer a cut pattern from the inside rib on to the tail section on both sides of the fuse, and make your initial rough cut. Next, make a center section for the horizontal stab and build the stab as one piece. Then, just slide it through. May have to make a few adjustments to get it where you want it, then Gorilla glue it on the insides and add a little filler on the outside. Next add the elevators, etc...

I'll let you know how it comes out!

ARFs are so much easier than having to build something.....

Chili,

I want to see that, some really good ideas! Hal could not convince me at first to try this, but if you are going to do it too I feel like I have to now! It's like a wart on the nose now, I can't stop looking at it!

ARF's are definitely easier than building them yourself, it adds more time when you bash them but you still come out ahead.

OK, I see! You don't need a cockpit, you're just reading! Well sorry about these last few posts, I'll try and post more pictures soon!

Dion,

Couple of questions: Do you have more info on this Flight Skin and where did you get the gear covers from?

Thanks,
Brent
