The problem with the BME is the side carb. It will be hanging out in the breeze. I have a BME 50 and it is a kick***** engine, but many people have had problems with carburators that are outside the cowl.

What about a bulg in the cowl or some kind of wind blocker? I am trying to keep this as low price as I can. I will be pulling most of the equipment out of my hurrican.

JBrannon, I was looking at the length of the Briosn 52 and it looks like you would have to remove the carb cover and push the entire engine back until the carb was completly inside the fusalage and use the carb cover lugs to mount the engine. This may cause clearance problems with the rear exhaust. The distance from the firewall to the front of the cowl is right at 6 inches. The Brison is 8.4 inches long from the back of the carb cover.
It might still work but do some measuring before ordering the Brison 52.
Thanks

Thanks for pointing that out. I hadn't seen any specs on the engine yet, just pictures.

Working along with Mark Trent we are getting the DV dialed in. I made two flights yesterday and I thought the pitch moment was wrong. It would go down when power was advanced thus up trim required and at landing speed I needed down elevator for landing. I zeroed the top wing and zeroed the stabs. Found I needed to shim engine up 1 degree. Flew it today and the CG. was a little aft I thought, on inital flight, so moved battery foreward to butt up to lower wing tube aft side. Helped ALOT! Made the shift and flew it 5 more times. What a machine, it flies great. Play with it, fly it, and give Chip any inputs you might have as this is a learning process for everyone! Thanks to Chip, Don and Carla for the great support and lets FLY!
BTW the tailwheel wire is weak and I am going to change out with 2mm music wire. Also had a ball bearing race come apart, probobly operator error, however a Hanger 9 ball-bearing link will punch out and replace the one in the horn, it was probobly side load when I
it put on. The horn screws are good however when seated I put a little thin CA on and put some tygon tubing ine the clevis.
Thats it all I've got to say Wayne McCosker STL

Hey Jack on low rates I am using 15 degrees on elevator, 13 degrees on ailerons. Rudder --- just make sure it does not hit your elevator. You really do not need much rudder with this airplane. On 3D elevator 40 degrees, ailerons 25 degrees, rudder remains the same.

I made a composite tailwheel from a Central hobbies bb tailwheel assembly and a Sullivan spring wheel assembly. It will out last the plane. I use the lighter grade tailwire on pattern planes and have over 1000 flights on them.

Eric.

Thanks! thats what I was looking for! Just waiting for the Spinner and to get the too-short upper wing tube problem solved.
Eric, that looks like it will work very well. I was just looking at my tailwheel and noticing how badly it is bent from just moving it around on the table during construction. The wire is not very strong at all as it comes with the kit.

Mine had no tail-wheel and Chip advised a cut down Central bb assembly. I noted that the diameter of their wire matched the Sullivan 20 pound+ tailwheel. One silver soldering iron later and we were done...
Also the sulivan tail-wheel assembly is pretty good in its own right. I use one on my Hanger 9 ZDZ80 sized Cap232

Eric.

The firewall is 1/2" thick and there is no need to reinforce it. I'm flying mine 3-4 times dailey and really starting to get it dialed in. I finished all the mixing yesterday so that it will knifedge with rudder only horizon to horizon. There is something else this plane is exceptional at. You can have it on knifedge and do snaps right back to knifedge almost effortlessly. I'm still working on the inverted manuevers with it, and so far everything is holding up well. One last thing, On the battery situation. It wouldn,t be wise to use a 2000 li-ion for the receiver. You have 8 servos in this plane. Li-Ion batteries don't supply as many amps as say a ni-cad. If you are going to run Li-Ion as I have, you should run a 4 cell pack which is series parallel which doubles the amp capacity. Currently I'm running the Fromeco Relions 4400 mah pack. They only cost $52. I now have over 20 flights and I'm charging it for the first time! The new technologies are great but they have some little quirks you need to know about.

Ref the carb hole being close to the bolt holes.
I understand your concern. Chip told me to put some circles of FG cloth where the the stand-offs go and zap them in place. This stops the wood crushing as much and as such stops the engine moving around. Just soaking the edge of the ply with thin zap near the holes will also help and should make you more feel comfortable.

I just got back from Merigold and I hafta say I had a blast. I let Dave fly it and I hope he chimes in on how he liked it. I am posting this link to a video I shot on wednesday. http://www.angelfire.com/extreme4/tr...ble_vision.wmv
Unfortunately the DV was lost on saturday when the engine quit on a low snap roll to hover[
]. I forgot to set the idle up when I took off. I'm ordering another one as soon as they open on monday!

It is a DA-50. This only has happened when I have the idle too low. I typically have a flight idle and a landing idle. The only times I've had problems is in snaps with out the idle turned up a little. Both the motor and the plane are excellent in my opinion.
