How many washers does it take to get the right angle for the engine mount?
Thanks Brian

As far as the plate dimensions go, 1/16" = 1 degree within 2 1/2". As Coo said it depends on how far the washer projects behind the mount. A larger diameter washer of the same thickness increases the angle. A piece of rectangular flat stock would work. IF possible put a slight taper on it. Joe

hi joe
ya man .i hear ya.I'm going to get my butt in gear but had to finish 3 planes i had started.I,m going to do maidens on 2 of the them this week and hopfully the 3rd next week .then the boards are clear for getting my u-can do built.I can't spend the time i really want in my work room.Got to keep the wife happy to bud.But then, all us married fellas do.
I'm putting a fs91 surpass 2 in it .strengthening the gear block;using dave brown fiber rods;and putting 3 degree right thrust in engine. In one of the posts,a different tail wheel assm.was mentioned and i'm going to use pinned hinges.Did i leave any necessary mods out.I will review the post again.prob take a good hour or so do to the great jobs you guys have done.Oh,i'm using hitec 645mg servos on all but throttle.
In my last post,i mentioned a wing dropping on my buddies u-can do.always left wing.I always balance my wings by finding the center line then sitting the wing on a dowl rod on that line.Is this the correct procedure.Seems to have always worked for me.
happy and safe flying to all. ken

Did I ever show you boys my modified starter. Surely an inspiration on an industrial scale. This baby will spin props all season on one charge and persuades the most stubborn of engines. Joe

Gents ....
Field again today....but still no UCD.
...Here's the story....
After Joe spot's the Cyclone's "wrong direction" fin side thrust..balls up... and i'd stopped kicking myself for not seeing it ...i e-mailed the manufacturer to just get them to check that they hadnt got a whole shed load with this "abnormality"...
They checked .
They had'nt.
I did say to these guys "....really it was my fault , had i have spotted this , it would have been easy enough to remedy.."
" YT International " (U.K. distributor, who are based only 40 miutes drive from me) said..." We'll get our tech support guys give you a call to see if they can help...." Yeah, Yeah....
They phoned last night ( Sat ) at 7:00 P.M !!....this chap was on the phone for a good thirty minutes or more ..but we couldnt really come up with a fix that didnt make a mess of things...he said he'd get someone to call back.
Just leaving this morning to go to the field.....phone rings...." YT International here.. we have a brand new fuse, fin, rudder and elevator set for you...do you want them shipping or would you like to pick them up...can i pick them up NOW..yes of course...i did..
....
I'm still in shock at this standard of service.....amazing..!..
Couple more from the field today...More of the "big boys" arround today...

coomarlin - Oh man, you hit Joe below the belt.
LOL - He is the mother of all weight haters. I bet he figured out a way to shave the poundage off if at all possible.
Joe, it sure does look good and sounds like a winner.
Dave great shots. What an airplane. I bet it was neat watching it fly. I would have liked to have seen this one myself.
Ditto on the rain reports. Here in North Al. all wet and windy. I ended up grounded for the weekend...........
By chance are any of you guys good at making a slide show on DVD with Pinnacle Studio 9 software ? I am working on a project for the high school tennis team that has me in a tail spin. PM if you know much about this kind of thing. Would appreciate being able to discuss with someone who knows how to do this.

Coo, I never weighed it, but it does pack a wollop. I had the standard cordless battery and just got sick of constantly chargeing it with poor results at the field.
Roger, sorry I can't help you, I'm just a chop and crop with Adobe Photo Deluxe.
Brian, isn't there a vid on the review? Joe

I hate to ask a question that has been asked probably ten times in this thread. But I keep reading things that are not at all related to this plane and my 4 year old is getting very restless.
What servos are being used in this airplane? Has anyone used the Futaba 3010? They have a decent torque rating and are only $23.99 each. Not enough torque for the rudder though. I will probably use a Hitec 645 there.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

there are guys flying this thing with standard Futaba 3004's with decent results, im sure the 3010 will fly it fine with something beefier on the rudder. I went overkill on mine so I can yank them when im done with them and get a larger aerobat.
good luck

Hondalan - several of us have been on this thread from the get-go and developed a fun relationship with one another while also getting into the nuts and bolts of the UCD 60. In the process we all get a bit side tracked at times, but eventually get back on the topic of the original thread. Beyond the joking around and non related questions, there is really good stuff in here, but the fun stuff and even the off track questions helps to keep us going and to get new info posted as we find things out.
Since you asked for some help, I used Hitec 475's on all movable surfaces for mine. Others have beefed up the torque and speed as a personal preference. When you consider the size and that some of us are using less power on the nose ( OS 91 Surpass ) these are working fine. I have roughly 75-100 flights on mine so far and no complaints. Those using more power and wanting more torque and faster servo response have used more expensive and higher grade servos. The 645 is a good example.

Hello there Alan...
Sorry if we..or should that be 'I'... drift " Off thread " now and again i think it's normally during quiet times ..but i suppose it keeps you all in touch..no real harm ..theres also a fair bit of laughter..
Anyway,i've just bought 5 3010's for the project thats trailing the UCD...These chappies are really just an economy high torque standard servo...nothing flashy..[8D]
After some reaserch it became evident that (as to be expected i suppose) they have quite a high current drain and NiMh's, in a standard configureation set up ,wer'nt recomended...but after asking around i was told that the 6v 2300 ma/hr NiMh batt pack i'd bought for the support of these chaps was more than O.K...( I was going to say adiquit...but couldnt spell it
)
So with this 5 cell, 6v, high capacity " overkill " set up you also get more speed from the little devils, a higher torque, reasonable cost... Vs a slightly sloppy/weak gear train....if i dont splatter the Cyclone all over the runway...i may upgrade
The 90 ounce you get from this servo @ 6v should do you for the rudder on the UCD too
regards, Dave.
Just noticed... while i was typing Roger was saying pretty much thre same in his first paragraph...
....if i could type with more than one finger...!

Hey Guys,
Got back early so though I would say hello.
Roger, do you think my HS-635HB'S and an HS-635MG on the rudder at six volts will work??
JW and Joe, did you get my PM'S??
David that's "adequate" in the Kings English my friend!! I missed something are you installing a 91 or 120 in the Cyclone?? (Would a 150 or 180 be better??)
I'm still waiting for someone to assist me with how to post photographs. I have access to a digital camera and the CD's, but do not know how to post them.
Like the guys in the Dodge commercials say "Got A Hemi??" With a Saito, the answer is Affirmative!!

Stoney...
Glad ya back o.k....howd it go...the retirement doo..?
Yeah its a Pumped 1.20FSIIIP...If Saito had done a pumped 1.00....1.20....150 or whatever i would really liked to have given it a whirl .....
just putting everything back in the new fuze and i managed a couple of degrees of r/thrust on the e/mount
Ive developed a paranoia about pressureised fuel tanks...i know.!..i know!...probabally needless..and i wanted to put the tank as close to the C of g as possible...the jury is stll out on the YS thing....and i try to keep things as simple as possible..
Anyway the O.S fitted spot on as you can see...i have the 502 tuned pipe system for the O.S .91 & 1.20...and i thought the 1.20 would be better able to support the extra three oz weight from the pipe in the cyclone rather than the .91FSIIP in the UCD .....well i think thats what i thought...
English alwayes was my week spott..

Otay, got the engine and mount on in the proper attitude, thank you David. But couldn't you have told me I was going to do it wrong before I did it? As a result the centerline of my engine is now 1/4" higher. We will see if the difference is noticable. Cowl is next. On the subject of masquerades, dosn't David's most recent pics look like a UCD in Cyclone's clothing?
