Hey guys. I've been working on a major slide show for the high school tennis team year and banquet. Arrgh........This began by just taking some pictures of my son playing tennis. Then I started taking pictures of the other players and thought the parents and the coach would like. Now it's a major project that I just finished. Big job, but enjoyed doing it. Learned a lot. Pinnacle Studio 9 is not for a novice. It's kind of like trying to learn how to fly on a 1/4 scale. All done and much wiser for it. Just take pictures of your own kids.

Now that had nothing to do with the UCD which has been hanger bound due to weather and this project. Looks like tomorrow is wet wet wet.......

Morning All,

Finally got caught up with the major household (Honey-Do's) and faucet repairs, got most of my parts including the reversed elevator servo. No more excuses so Monday is putting UCD together day!!

Joe, Thanks for everything and hope the postage is right. They weighed the return, stamped it, put eveything in the bigger one weighed and stamped that and sent it off. My receipt says .60 cents. Wouldn't be the first time they screwed up though. If there's a problem please advise and I'll send you a buck!! I really do appreciate all of the help and guidance on this project.

JW, Bought the one we talked about the Model A2. Cost was around $1100.00 with new composite pieces looks NIB. Did I just make a good investment?? Don't worry the wind will die down sooner or later. Been windy here for six weeks, that stopped now and for the past two days we've had thunderstorms and alot of rain. Been terribly humid with temps in the 90's. Summer has arrived for the next six months in SW Florida.

Dave, Thanks for asking about my retirement doo!! Was very nice about 50 persons attended. Drank too much and probably was where Matt was at for awhile. Did get that new Glock Model 37 auto pistol from my boss!! Problem is under the circumstances I can't hock it. That being said, please fill me in on where your money stash is where wifey doesn't know. If I can find mine in the same place I'll order my Wildhare Edge!!

To All: Bought an APC 16x4 when Joe mentioned it. Do not think I will use it now and will stay with 15's. Not worth the price to ship back for an exchange. If any of my friends here can use it or wants to experiment with it get with me.....

Lord, by all means, mix it out. The right gear can overcome anything. Personally, I fly by the sticks, but thats just me. At some point I may experiment with mixing. Right now I would be happy to get reaquainted with this bird and get back to practice. After helplessly watching three of these go south you get a little apprehensive to say the least. There is a lot of mix info on the other UCD thread. Good luck, Joe

David,

I know your plane is almost done but is not even finished yet it right?? Why don't you wait until the maiden and see how she handles?? Seems like you are being a little pessimistic with the anticipation of a bunch of problems. I'm with Joe on this, fly her with the sticks first then see what you have got and make adjustments from there. Just throwing the mixes in when it might not be needed could cause problems in itself. Don't go crazy trying to wring her out too much until you are satisfied with the mechanics. I always have an experienced pilot that I trust take her up first. I have saved a couple of airplanes that way including my last one. It's not sorted out yet but is getting close. We have only had to add some expo and do some mechanical adjustments on the control surfaces. The planes flies like she's on rails, but wants to ballon when landing. The GC is where it's supposed to be but I'm adding another oz of weight to the nose and trying again Monday.

Brian, thrust plates are southbound.

Lord, countless hours of checking and double checking still resulted in my mentor discovering the rudder inputs were reversed before maiden. Sometimes one becomes absorbed to a point where as they become blind to something so simply obvious, that it makes you wonder. I'm known for assembling planes that require no adjustments for true flight, yet, miss something so small. Great devastation is often the result of little mistakes. The weather right now is perfect. Sun, light steady wind, possible threat of rain (which was supposed to have come and gone by now). I'm going flying, I'm going flying. I'll post the results, second time out so far. This time with the cowl on. Joe

Stony....
Yes... spot on with what you say there about chucking mixes in when your not sure weather there needed or not .....dead right ...got the UCD sitting here waiting to go.....all set up with side thrust and c of g set at what the guys with previous experience on these chaps, suggest as a good starting point[8D]....In all fairness i'd like to maiden this without #1 son there, i know that sounds awfull but ten year olds can be a bit ...er....enthusiastic ?....I've not flown anything like this before..
The mixing thing was sloping a touch more towards the 'cyclone' thats following the UCD...suppose i shouldnt mention it on this thread but there's been such a load of good info from everyone that i was reluctant to pass up a chance to pick thier brains...cyclone has no right thrust and, because of the physical size of the 1.20 no room to put any in, so, at some point i'll have to deal with this...hence the mix question...who knows it may prove usefull on the UCD at a later date too....i've never dealt with this issue before[:-]
Glock.. herd of these in the movies..are they like the "Rolex" of guns ?...Expensive.?.....can you just go buy one over the counter...?..i'm intreagued. Thier pretty sharp on gun law over here...in fact...i know this sounds pretty nieve...i dont thiki've ever even seen a handgun...in person... if you know what i mean ..catch ya later..!

Weather here is perfect ..now.!.. this morning it was blowing people over. supposed to be good tomorrow ...fingers crossed All set.[:-] for the field... actually turned up at the field without the wing set once...i know !...dont....
We all have a 3 day w/end...."May Day" Bank holliday...do you guys get this..? TTFN

Lord, on the occasions that I do remember the wing, its usually at the cost of the radio, or the fuel, or the starter, etc, etc. Don't banks have holidays everyday? Joe

Joe,
Roger that, thanks again!!

David,
I was sort of directing my comments towards the Cyclone. From what I have read in the posts you have done the proper mods to the UCD including some of your own ideas that I will incorporate. The Glock is not the Cadillac so to speak but it is deputy proof, meaning it will work even when mistreated. Not much to go wrong and very reliable. I'm guessing the cost to the department was around $500.00. Civilians can buy them but with lower capacity magazines. JW has one but I don't know what model he owns. Law enforcement built models have more magazine capacity. By the way did you read in your news awhile back about the American living in England that killed two of your constables (David Bieber)?? Unfortunately, he was from here we have been looking for him for years and had no idea he was in the UK. If only we had known??

Matt,

If you want the prop I will mail it to you. When it arrives check what the postage was. Just reimburse me for the mailing costs. If that's agreeable send me a PM with your mailing address and I'll send it out.

Have fun and good luck those of you flying. Must wait until Monday Brian..

No go on flying. Waited all day only to find the wind getting stronger instead of weaker. I want a job as a weather man. I would take half their pay just to be wrong so often. Tomorrow morning, 10:00 am. Coffee and nitro. Joe

David, suprizingly the cowl ordered seperatly for this one is very substantial. 3.2 oz. The past ones varied to the point that on one I had to glass the inside due to how thin it was. They are inconsistant on their production runs. Regardless of thickness you will need cowl binders. The servo grommets with the little brass sleeve work well, but the fuel eats them. www.pspmfg.com has got some dandies. On the screws coming out., remove them and put a drop of thin CA into the hole and when dry it hardens the threads left in the wood by the screw. I've got my first electric from santa, a GWS Formosa. Been meaning to try one for about 2 years now. Almost done and I'm looking forward to it. I did have to change the colors though. I will never look at a weather report again. It is windy, pouring down rain and dark as night here. Joe

Joe,

Matt hasn't contacted me with his information yet [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]. So if you can use the prop I'll send it to you in the morning. Consider it an even swap for the labor on the thrust plates .

Matt,

I don't want to get in the middle. [sm=punching.gif]So You and Joe decide???

I'll stand by for someone's answer.....

LL I used some small fuel tubbing ,to make some rubber washers ..I then put a #2 flat washer on the screw, then the rubber washers I made from the small fuel tubbing ...I then put a drop of thin CA in the hole....I ran the screw in while the CA was setting up....NOTE I did run the screw in and out to make the threads ....CA let harden as Father Joe said ....Then do the above.....it worked well for me.....JW

J Dubya, I knew I should have patented that. I went one step further, at the local hardware you can get chrome screw grommets in place of washers. They really dress it up. You better get over to learning to fly, some guy is dissing ya.

Lord, just rub it in.

Stoney, I was joking. The prop is Matts, I do appreciate it though. Besides I got the Lee County patch. Joe

A great home for a DA-50 is A Great Planes Patty Wagstaff Extra 300s. Thry fly great with that engine and the price is about $400.00. What a great combo.
