This is from Horizon's web site:

"We did notice the 180 is a bit more thirsty — it consumed the 16 oz. tank in just 9 minutes at high throttle settings. If you want to fly longer, a bigger tank is advised."

I think the Cap comes w/ a 20oz tank, so you should get more than 9 minutes if you don't change it.

Yeah, but this plane was not meant to be a speed demon, if you get over half throttle on a 180, you are either trying to get out of a hover or.. well you're going too fast!

The CAPX only has a 14-15 oz tank, not 20 oz (unless you got a different tank than i did) I only get about 12-13 minites of mixed flying with my OS160 before it is dry You will be doing well to get 9-10 minites with the SAITO. -----But the plane glides well.

ya - you are right. The tank says 450cc = 15.2oz.

I actually have a 20oz tank on mine. I hope to get 15 minutes or so out of the Moki 1.8.

I put a 20 oz tank in mine and I think I could get 15 minutes with the Moki. I shoot for about 6-8 minutes usually and have always had plenty of fuel left when I defueled.

Tettra clunk tank purchased from Central Hobbies. These are the best tanks I've ever seen. About 3 times the price of the Du-bro, Sullivan etc ($13 vs $5)....but I don't buy tanks very often, so I didn't mind the one time extra expense. The stopper seals inside and outside the neck with a little band clamp.

Dale, tell me your setup and finished weight. Im putting the DA50 in mine with 5625 Digi's all the way around, 6v 1800 nimh for reciever and 6v 1100 nimh for ignition. Im curious as to what your finished weight is?

Thanks.....and maybe I'll get off my a** and finish mine here real soon.

Question: Anyone change out the Landing gear t-nuts for 1/4-20 so you can use Nylon bolts? Just curious, I have done this on my past few models and it has saved my gear a few times...

Also, is the hardware that they include, specifically for the engine mounts, metric? I don't have an allen wrench that will fit the black bolts they sent for the engine mount... what's up with that? Oh well, another trip to the hardware store..

getting ready to balance for CG. my Cg balancer has a spread of 12 inches, so i cant measure Cg at wing tips. if i measure 3 inches back from L.E. at the tip and strike a line from tip to tip, can i use this line to balance at the root? should I balance it right side up or up side down?

Well given that the wing is mounted on the bottom of the fuse you'll need to balance it inverted.

I used the 23 oz Graupner tank that hobby lobby sells in my 73" H-9 Cap. Same size plane, I would think it would fit nicely in the Cap-x

Only thing I am concerned with, is should you use the standard size lines with the Saito 180, or should I install larger size lines? This bigs up a big question because everything (tank fittings, etc..) are set up for the normal medium size tubing...

I used the standard line on my Saito 1.80. The larger line fit to loosely on the 1.80s fuel fitting (IMO). Seems to work fine for mine.

Okay...here she comes. I cant believe how fast and nice this plane builds. I have everything done now with the exception of installing the engine, reciever and batteries. Oh...and the canopy. And I ordered one of Slimlines new Extreme pilots only to be very dissapointed that its going to be too small for this plane.

If my modified standoffs are ready by tomorrow I could mount the engine and have this one ready for maiden on Sunday......... if the weather holds out.

I balanced mine right side up - probably should try it inverted.

Mine is a perfect balance w/ the moki 1.8, 20OZ tank, and the Li-Po right next to the RX.

I balanced mine inverted...seemed to work ok.

With regard to fuel tubing, see the attached photo for a good way to secure large fuel tubing on smaller fittings. This also works great for regular tubing on regular fittings.... My dad was the first I've seen do this, and I've adopted it on almost every connection I do. To get the outer tubing on, I slip in onto a pair of curved forceps and stretch it right over.

I learned that fuel tubing trick back in my Helo days. I always use a pair of needle nose pliers to stretch the piece of fuel tubing over your line, but sometimes you may have to hold the small piece to keep it from sliding off the pliers while being stretched. All my tubing connections get that nowwa days.

Ravensnest

I used kevlar on a pull-pull system. The kevlar I got from a
company named "Aerospace Composite Products " , it has
a vinyl jacket to keep it from fraying. It's called Kevcord.

I started using this system with the DP Extra, and it works
really smooth. Now when I find that a plane is coming out tail heavy
I move the servos forward. I like the pull-pull better than
the push rods and it is easier to install.

Ok, I have a question. Where did everyone put their switch? There is NO room to put a decent heavy duty switch on the side of this thing. There is on little 3/4" diameter piece of ply in the middle of the fuse, but that is it... I am in a quandry as to where to put the switch (with charging jack), fuel dots and remote ignitor...

Look back at my pic that shows the fuel tank installation. You can see the JR HD switch and charge jack in the vertical ply strip just in front of the "B" on the side.

I agree, I was in a quandry on how to mount it without adding support structure, but this worked out just fine. I put my fuel dot on the underside behind the gear through a lightening hole in the gear plate.
