The Custom Cut Graphix set was $40.00 shipped. However, Bill was not willing to supply the saphire blue. The black looks ok to me and I plan to fly the plane in Fun Scale classes at this year's scale contests.

I think it flies very much like my 30% Carden Extra. Very little coupling. I haven't done anything to it, because I really haven't seen the need to.
It does not have any bad habits, tracks like on a rail.

Andy, Bill is a great guy and no doubt if i called him he would send the saphire blue. I did not notice it until I put the graphics on. And I also think the black looks ok. so no big deal. fyi he sent the graphics w/o payment then asked for payment after my inspection. great guy !!!

Bryan01601,
I was pretty surprised when he did that the first time. Since then I have purchased the graphics from him for two other airplanes and a friend has gotten graphics from Bill for numerous airplanes. Everytime it is the same, he sends them to you and if you like them you pay for them, if you don't send them back.
One time I transposed a number on my AMA number. I sent it to Bill in an e-mail. After I received the numbers, I called him and told him that he made a mistake with my number. Bill pointed out that he copied and pasted what I sent him in to his computer.
I told him that I still needed the number and appologized for the confusion and he sent me the numbers no charge.

I recently had the "opportunity" to find out how well the front-end is built. My throttle servo decided to quit working while at idle. I wasn't quite close enough to get back to the strip and it ended up in a ditch just the other side of our field. I thought for sure I was going to find the whole front-end pushed back into the fuse but all that happend was some damage to the cowl, which you can't see when looking from above, a couple cowl mounting blocks broke off, one wheel pant cracked on the bottom, and of course the prop. All I had done to beef things up was to add a little tri-stock to the landing gear plate. I was extremely pleased to see that the mounting box didn't budge, even though the spinner had buried itself in the side of the ditch.

Has anyone found a good aftermarket wing tube which fits Patty?
I have a bent one and the only current way to get one from Great Planes is to buy the entire wing set for $169.
It measures 30mm diameter. If that is correct, then a standard 1" is way too small and a standard 1 1/4" is 1/16 too large.
Thanks,
Dave

Ok everybody......just finished construction and CG'd tonight. Here's my setup. Moki 2.1 with Brisson muffler, 24 oz. Sullivan fuel tank, TME smoke pump w/16 oz smoke oil tank. Two 1400 Ma battery packs, Pull-Pull center fuse mounted on the servo tray with a 5945 Hitec, tail mounted 5645 Hitech's for the elevators, and a 425BB Hitec for the throttle. The wings are 5925 Hitech's for that extra holding power. Overall weight with a 20X8 and the crappy spinner from the kit (Dave Brown hasn't shown up yet) 15 lbs 11 oz. This is one beautiful kit. great planes did a very good job.
Question time!
Now......I have tried to measure my CG at the interior part of the wing at the fuse and I'm at 6 3/8" from the leading edge. I know you are supposed to check CG at the wingtips, but I'm using my CG machine. I laid out the wings with the wing tube installed and ran a string from each wingtip at the recommended CG point. I marked the intersection of the string and the wing root which would indicate the proper CG at the interior point. Has anybody else tried to do this? If so, what did your CG point measure at?

I forgot to tell everyone about the tailwheel modification......
Instead of using that very wierd tail control design that comes with the kit, I installed a tailwheel kit from CB Tatone. It turned out very nice (Pix to follow) it uses a dual spring design to control tailwheel direction during taxi that is run off the rudder control horns. I installes a small 1/16 piece of ply to the bottom of the tail assembly and epoxied it on. Then I used 4-40 wood screws to attach the leaf spring tail support and mounted a Sullivan 1 1/2" tailwheel. I highly recommend it to everyone to use on their Patty's.
Engine break-in this week, and hopefully will maiden this Saturday!

Phil,
I was running a Futaba Super 7 with 1024 PCM RX, dual 1500mah NiMH batteries on dual JR heavy duty switch harness'.Servos were Hitec 5645's all around and an s148 on the throttle. And I was running a Moki 2.10 with remote glow driver . The TX/RX combo was flown on another model earlier this year with no problems. The model acted as if control was intermittent it would be on its own and then suddenly I had control and it tracked beautifully, this repeated but as I said I got it around to short final when it went uncommanded nose high (65deg.) at idle and stalled. UGLY!!!
Wow just finished reading these posts started on Sunday. I have Patty, got her at the LHS. I have two g62s and would like something smaller if some one is looking for a nib G62, I would trade a new ST G4500 and a new G62 for a 3w48 or some thing close a bme 50 maybe. Any way I have been sanding away at the so called tubes and am getting a fit. thanks to all the work by others I will do all the mods and improvements before I fly.
Ref the last crash. Last year i built a 1/4 scale sig cub put saito 180 with on board glow. glitch city took it out everything was ok after that.
When Will Andyf fly? that is the question???

i had a weird experience last weekend. Out flying patty, everything was fine. At some point I noticed two cracks in the fuse. They are vertical and right behind the canopy. each one is about 2 inches long. the cracks go into the sheeting and the covering is cut as well. I can't figure out how this happened. I was doing a bit of 3 D, but nothing to wild. ideas?

A few months back someone was installing a 3w 48B2 in their GP Extra. Any info on installation or flight characteristics would be greatly appreciated.

Well I just picked up the PW300 at the LHS. I have 5625's and 5645's for all the surfaces and a FPE 3.2 for the power.
I've read through the majority of the posts here which is what pushed me to buy this plane.
Couple of questions for those that have been flying it for a while.
First: What's the consensus on hinges? I was planning on Robart hinge points, however was wondering how well they are holding being the plane was designed for CA hinges. I've also considered Dubro pinned hinges. Any advise on what's holding up well so far would be appreciated.
Second: What the recommendation on control horns for the surfaces? Seems like, based on the pictures, most are sticking with the supplied control horns. Normally I would use Rocket City hardware, however, I am not sure there's enough hardwood in the mounting area to support that type of horn. Again, what seems to be working for those of you flying?
Third: I was planning on 5645's on each side of the rudder. However I remember someone telling me not to use 2 digitals on a rudder in this configuration because they may fight to return to center and drain the battery. Any thoughts on this?
Fourth: What are some thoughts on redundant batteries? I am considering 2 6v 2700 size batteries with 2 switch's connected direct to the receiver.
Thanks for any comments that you guys can make.
Eric

I would reccomend the Robart Hinge Points. I had the CA hinges on the rudder fail (break in half). Since putting in hinge points, no problems!

You have about 1/2 inch of balsa in the wing and tail section to hold the 3/16 Robart hinge points. This is plenty for I have 49 flights on my Patty with this setup and have had no problems.
I used two Hitec 5625 digital servos on the rudder with a "Y" harness and never had a centering problem. Just take your time setting up the system.
I believe the supplied control horns are fine.
Last but not least, I don't believe you need two battery packs and switches for the receiver and servos. Just check the battery voltage before you fly and use a good heavy duty switch. But if two battery packs make you feel safer in the air by all means go for it!
