But earlier this summer I was visiting my in-laws up in Vermont and we were at a John Deer dealer. They had a whole end cap stocked with the stuff. I suppose any John Deer dealer (or any lawn impliment shop that isn't a Home Depot, Lowe's or Menard's) would probably have it too.

I do not think that I will be getting in the air today, The hurricane storm is passing threw her at this moment with one more on the way,
Im glad I went flying yesterday it was nice and cleare little wind and lots of fun my eagle did not want to come down and this is not the kind of plane that you want to dead stick in, I think Sunday will be the same,
My DL 50 has been doing a super job nice to start transition is very responsive and it realy has power, it takes this 18.2 Lb plane stright up no problem. I have no regrets on this one,

sorry that you had to deal with the hurricane, but hope that it all goes away soon and hope you make it through just fine, hey you might want to pay attention to your sparkplug wire not to rubb or touch the head on the engine, your plane looks awesome,i would of got the Christen Eagle instead of the GP pitts special but the deal was right and couldnt resist,i'll post some pictures of mine so you can get an idea on the wire routing, seems like this planes are very, very similar i bet some of the parts are interchangeable even

I used the Briggs & Stratton ashless for my break-in. Seems to have worked fine. After break-in I went to Amsoil Sabre at 80:1.

Thanks Switch,
I do think the planes are similer the CE flys very well with the throws way above the manual recommendations its nice to have triple rates on my radio, I would be interested to see some pictures of yours, Keep in mind that this plane was made for a twin four stroke engine at first I was concerned that the fire wall would not hould up for the DL 50 but it has not come apart yet so I keep on flying it and love in it as well, I have two other Bipes a Tiger Moth Saito 125 and it hovers and a weeks special G62 this plane is a tank @ 20 Lb, But it flys very fast and stable with the 72 " wing spand, Ill up load the pictures of this raer plane soon, The Weeks Special was flown by Linda Myers and she is still with the us flying team, very impresive Lady,

wow that plane is heavy compared to the pitts special, the pitts weights around 16 and a half pounds to 17 pounds, heres the pictures for you,the ones where the plane is all put together shows the fuel lines inside the cowl,i hadn't cleaned it up yet but it actually came out pretty good after the plumbing was cut to size and straped away, you know what i totaly forgot that yours has the wrap around muffler so im not sure this would work for you but well only trying to help, perhaps you can still get some idea from this set up

Nope. Engine not fixed yet. I got my new case and bearings from DL USA, but now that I ground the key out of the crank I can't get the rest of it out. Was going to send it to an engine guy to have him fix it (because I thought, if I had to buy a new crank the con rod would have to be pressed off the crank), but now that I found the crank comes with the con rod already installed, I'm just going to buy a new crank assy. So that's on the way now and I should get it all together next week.
This all started when gook was coming out of the front bearing after I mounted the engine on my new Extra after the previous crash (which, in addition to destroying the plane took out the carbon prop - something that almost always takes out a bearing so I'm told). I thought the case could have been "tweaked," but after disassembling the engine there is just about no way the case or crank could be bent (unless you crashed into concrete or something). Both are so short. But the bearing definitely is bad, so that's probably all I really needed to replace. I musta just had one of those "chance" engines where the woodruff key was frozen to the crank.
Anyway, hopefully others can learn from this.
I just want to get my Extra back into the air, but in the mean time I have the Edge to play with anyway.

Say, I see you are using the cowl ring option on your Eagle. How do you like it? Do you think it's too much hassle? I made cowl rings for my Extra(s) and my Edge. The only way to go I think, but maybe too complicated for some.
Tell me what you think.

I see you are using my idea (????) for the carb arm and choke mount. I got a new choke mount though....

Many Thanks,
You did a good job on this CE and I think the cowling ring is best gives you a strong and rigid installation and I do not have any problems with the screws backing out,
Come on CE III,

Switch love your Pitts, nice job on the engine install.
Tim I noticed you changed to a single sided choke mount. Was there a problem with your first design with harmonics or something? Or did you just decide to try it that way? I agree with our comment on the Christen Eagle. The first time I saw one on this thread a few months back I went to Tower and the Great Planes site to get the details on it. That's when I found that it had been dropped. Too bad, I have loved that plane and it's scheme since it first came out back in the 80's when I wanted the .40 size one.

well Tim im sorry that you had to get a new case and other parts i guess we all learn from our own mistakes,i've been flying helis for well over 13 years now and most of the time when the a heli crashes it takes out the bearings on the head's main shaft and spindle and other bearings depending on the crash but you should know that the bearings are very critical the least stress on them causes a notchy ball bearing and you're done well at least you figured out the problem,i hate it when things get more complicated then they really are, thanks for the compliments on the plane and thanks for the great ideas on the engine set up i do like the old choke bracket though but the new one is still good

yes it is ready to drill holes in the sky but i have to break it in first so as soon as the sun comes up i'll be on my way to find the lawn boy oil,if not then i'll use the briggs and stratton

by the way tim i would love to use the cowl ring instead of the crappy wood blocks, makes for a cleaner look but i just didnt know how to do it,i might buy a new cowl and a wrap around muffler,by the way Bosco2 i do have a four stroke saito 300 twin
that i bought for my pitts special but i just had to give the DL 50 a try, besides gasoline will be much cheaper than nitro on the four stroke twin,i might put it in much much later if i dont crash it,knok on wood

Gentlemen,
I would like to know how much you pay in the states for the loctite bearing mount 620. I've looked around locally and couldn't find it, or anything similar for that matter. So at a hardware place this guy tells me they can order it for me and it would be in, in about a week. He told me it would cost me U.S. $148.07!!!. Is this right? I've almost fainted. Needless to say, I didn't place the order. Is there any other product that can be used instead that doesn't cost me an arm, leg and an eye?
I thank you in advance.

Do a web search for locktite 620. Here are two sites that come up as well as others.
http://www.hmcelectronics.com/cgi-bi...uct/4675-0022/
http://www.amazon.com/Loctite-Bearin.../dp/B00070LQWE
You can get a 10ml bottle for about $13 US.

As I remember, the oil container had a built in measuring device where you squeezed the oil from the bottom up to this area on the top of the container. For a 32:1 mix, which is what I used, the top section holds exactly 4 ounces. Squeeze to fill and dump it into a gallon of gas and you have the proper mix.

Hi Super.
Choke mount - no, I just like the appearance of the one-arm type better - it's carbon so it's cool! The other one was working fine, but since it's plywood I felt it needed to span both the top and bottom bolts. Since I went to carbon I think I can get away with just the one side.
