I have been working on extensively lightening my truck, milling the chassis, carbon parts, lighter shocks, etc. I am looking at chopping around 260 to 300 grams off by the time I am done. Should then be around the same weight or lighter than the new gen of truggies out there. It can only be good, for performance, handling and run times.

Ya the Pro hyper looks like a great Pro truggy platform!!! Just wandering if nyone has any insight on how it measures up to the losi 8 and even the Jammin X1, and the Jammin X2, What are the differneces in these OFNA truggies??? I wander because the Jammin trucks are a little more money and would like to know if its worth buying the Pro or waiting to save up for the Jamminins..... I really like the pro just new to the hobby and am in the dark about how it compares to other truggies like these big 3 .....please let me know all you know so I can make a good desion thanks

The X2 is a stonking truggy, but keep in mind that it's a new gen truggy. The Hyper ST to me still has the most buggy like steering of all of them. The new ones are a lot lighter, but then again I weighed mine against an X2 on Saturday and it was only 150 grams or so more, so not much, and this is before all my lightening mods, just with the milled chassis.

The X2 looks really fast on the track, that will be my next truggy hopefully for the Summer series next year. All the new truggies are lighter, have smaller diffs and better weight distribution. As far as reliability goes, I know that the Hyper ST is pretty bullet proof and can take a pounding of note. No news of the Hyper ST 2 yet, so unless you can wait, my choice at this point in time would be the X2 if you are planning to race and a Hyper ST if you wanna bash even though I race mine.

I have had both a Hyper and Losi.
Both turn really hard, and can be difficult to drive for us mortals, although the losi can be tonned down as it has more aftermarket( and Losi)
tuning bits.
I have read that the Jammin range are a little softer to drive, but the x2 is next gen. so may have more than the x1

All the modern truggies are tough as nails, but none more than the Hyper. I have broken a few 'C' hubs on the HYper, but I have also broken a spindle and rear hub on the Losi,
so not much in that.

At our recent State Champs, all of the brands were represented in the finals and none looked signifigantly better than any other.
The driver made the biggest difference.

Best to see what is popular at your local club and have a chat with the guys there.

If you are running the same as a few others, you should get help and advice, they might even ba able to help if you break a part and don't have a spare.[8D]

Post some pics of your progress that way most of us can also try what you have. A lighter Hyper truck will definitely great. It has great steering but I was spoiled by the Losi 8t. Even with everything installed and with fuel in the tank it was definitely lighter than my Hyper st Pro. I decided to keep my truck and keep racing it for the time being. I've been contemplating the change to an RC8T and saving the Hyper ST for my son but I'm not giving up just yet. If someone here can definitely add to this then I will keep racing the Hyper with mods. I had a good friend of mine that runs on the expert class try my truck so I know that it is a very capable truck.

I will do. Just getting all the pieces sorted out over the next couple of weeks. I am also making quick mount engine mounts, ordered the aluminium yesterday. I should have that in by the end of the week and the carbon sheets should follow shortly. I was going to get a little production run of carbon parts made, but the cost price was around the £43 / US$65 before posting. That was just for the centre chassis brace and the two uprights. Not sure anyone would want to pay that much?

Since the Hyper ST is deemed as a heavy truggy, what are you guys doing to get over this? Any weight saving? Or just living with it?

Scott
I remember reading somewhere in this forum that some one had tried the Hyper 7 carbon fiber shock towers which do fit. There are pictures posted as well. That same person made the hyper 7 chassis braces and the hyper 7 upper plate fit. I haven't been able to find the carbon fiber towers so I would assume that they could be cut out of some carbon fiber sheet. I don't know how that project ended or how much more of a performance gain that provided. Rob Bender from Nitrohouse supposedly had some weight reduction projects line up for this truck. I have to check with him and see what he came up with. If I find out I will post. He runs the truggy with an old Ninja .21 and has no problems pushing the truck around. Now I believe he is using a Jammin .28 or a Picco .28. If this truggy was a lot lighter it would definitely be a lot better. It's sad to see that most of the Hyper st trucks that had pictures posted here have now ended up on ebay. I'm still going to hang on to mine but like Herrsavage I will be getting an RC8T.
i got the cf towers on ebay, holeshoteng was the store but they have no items right now. the project worked pretty good, truck was a lot lighter and was more nimble. i could even go up a tooth on the clutchbell. i was happy with the results. the truck seems fine and able to keep up with the other truggies but once you lighten it substancially or drive another it is a hog. way over weight in a lot of areas, but thats good cause thats where it gets its toughness. for tight technical tracks good luck getting into the a main, but for bigger open tracks with big jumps it does fine. i sold mine on rc tech and it soon sold again to canada, so there is a diet hyper st pro up there somewhere kickin' ars.

I am interested in making it brushless. looks like the Hyper 8 kit from novak will work perfect. I can't see spending $600+ dollars on a kit for a little weight savings and way less durable. Anybody converted one yet.

I just converted my Buggy. Working on converting my St Pro now. Hyper 8 kit will work but you will have to drill 4 holes as it won't line up with the ST pro chassis. And they guy that did that in Darksoul's link is a local here. I haven't heard from him in a LONG while.

I am going to buy the Novak hyper 8 kit and see if I can make it work. Mounting the motor is the only hard part I am running into too.

Nice, what uprights are you using there???

I am making some from Carbon Fibre, I should have the carbon beginning of next week. I have also machined a quick release engine mount and milled out my chassis. I will post some pics up of it when it's all done.

@ rckal,

im using the machined shock towers for the hyper7,its a direct fit,and its much lighter than the stock shock towers of the hyper st pro,all you just need is a longer ball ends for the shocks

vyt666- Thanks mate. Will the H7 TQ ones fit as well ? I 'm guessing it will but i wanna make sure before i get them off ebay, there's a set of front/rear shock towers going cheap down here.

all in- 1/2 offset wheels. no need for hub extenders.

Cheers

The old engine mount will work fine. However the problem with the Hyper ST is that unless you are using the Ofna truggy start box then you will have trouble hitting the flywheel. So my recommendation would be to get a 34mm flywheel at least and then it would work with no issues. Heck you can even use a Savage X aluminum flywheel with the included collet and it will work great!. The cool thing is that the Savage X flywheel only costs about 9 bucks.

My son has the RTR and we start it no problem on my Starter box which is used for my Pro. You might have to remove one of the shims on the engine mount. I would have to check on his engine, but you don't need to go buying a new flywheel.

Remember, that if you buy a new flywheel and it's too large, you have the risk of it stalling the engine if you land or drive over a large stone.

Not sure of the US, but over here in the UK, we mainly use the SMD box, which has now been replaced by a new and improved version.

http://www.s-m-d.co.uk/jbr-005-high-...-box-i332.html

It has twin 775 motors just like the previous one, will turn over even brand new engines now problem.

Have just done a quick search and found the older version like I have at Amain

http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/12542

Once I get brave enough to get out in the cold, I will have a look at my son's engine mounts for you.
