Sweet, seems to work pretty well. Still not perfect but pretty close. THat's pretty much what I did but I used some tape and my hand to hold it where I wanted it.
What do you mean by wow? Like a curvature? Almost like aileron dihedral? lol.

Wow....tape...clamps.....weights....I didn't have the patience, and I wish I had a picture of me straightening my ailerons. Pull up a barstool to my workbench, put the wing in my lap with the aileron flat on the countertop, put my left elbow on one end of the aileron and pull up the other side with my left hand.....then iron the wrinkles with my right hand. I'm an idiot.
I agree with rccardude (nice name by the way, I cut my teeth on 1/8 scale buggies before the airplane bug bit me). Keep the plane even if you don't fix it right away. It'll make for a nice rainy day project later on. I have two in a box awaiting such a day. One I'm sure I can rebuild, the other maybe, but it'll be a challenge and I guarantee I'll learn something along the way.

That's what I figured
I got it as straight as I could. Turns out that the inside edge of the aileron was kicked up on the left side, causing it to look unaligned when it was and also explained my need for left trim.
Thanks a bunch! I'll try and give her a bit of flight time tomorrow with the more rearward CG and I'll report how it goes
Thanks again!

Hobie,
Just use the end of the other side as a template to make a new former. I replaced at least 3 formers in mine when i crashed. It took a little while but wasn't that hard to do. In all for the $99 plane it's not worth spending a ton of time on unless you like playing with glue, so for me and others it was worth it, if your not into it, then give the plane to someone in your club, I'm sure someone will want to fix it.

Fix her up hobie !!! Trace the other end, just do the front half and then replace the whole broken half,,, You'll be happy you did, you will learn a little and the reward for yourself is priceless.

Thanks for all the replies guys . Sachin I am 2 1/2 hrs from Chicago so with the cost of gas it wouldn't be worth driving 500 miles to get a wing for a plane I paid $20 for but thanks anyway . Schu what did you make the formers out of and how did you cut them out ?
I don't have good saw just an old hand held electric jigsaw . Waldopepperaxel so do you rcomend cutting away the broken part back to where I can match a flat surface ? Because of the big holes they put in the formers it makes it hard to just replace the broken part . I set up the Twist PNP yesterday finally ran 2 tanks through the Evo engine . All I have to do is tune the engine better and get the CG right . The fly in isn't till mid August and I still would like to save the PNP till just a couple weeks before so I have a nice shinny new plane to fly . I still might try and do the repair but I am lousy working with wood .

Just trace rib pattern from other wing tip and cut another rib half to glue behind it while putting the damaged pieces back in position and recover. You can use balsa as the tip rib is thick balsa. I would not worry too much about the lightening hole. You can cut it all with an x-acto knife.

A sharp hobby knife will cut through balsa like a hot knife through butter. You can free hand any shape you want. Just lightly sand the cut edge when you are done and this will take out any imperfections. Shouldn't take more than a couple of mitures to cut a new rib.

OK OK guys you have encouraged me and pressured me into giving it a try . I don't have much confidence in trying to do this and you may have to wait awhile to hear and see how it is going . First I will have to find some 1/4 inch balsa . I wish I had all the broken pieces it would make it easier . I thought I had all of the pieces everything but my pilot but standing in neck high weeds with my legs itching and bleeding I didn't spend much time taking inventory . It may take awhile to get started but I subscribe to this thread and I will let you know of my progress or lack of progress when I get started . Thanks Twisters for all the input I may have more questions later .

Hobie,
Hopefully this picture will help:

As you can see I cut a square hole that spans to the middle of the next former like the sheeting repair article suggests, which puts the broken former in the middle. I then cut out the leading edge balsa shown, and glued in a new piece I bought at the hobby shop. After that I made a new former by tracing the end then I glued it to the side of the the broken former. Now that I have a new former and new leading edge balsa, all that was left was to sheet it as described in the repair article then sand to shape.
Hopefully that helps. If it doesn't let me know and I'll walk you though it on the phone.

If I may ask, why do some of you guys censor words like Funtana and Twist?

New Twist .60 coming according to Horizon's website - I started a thread for it (didn't see one already).

Did the wing tip today one of the worst things other than when I get to the covering which I have only done small patch jobs . It isn't pretty but but all I want to do is get it back in the air plus the covering should hide it all . Of course the cover job could look worse than the repair . Thanks for all the encouragement I now think I might be able to actually repair it
. I do have a long way to go though .
Here is my first before and after shots of the wing tip .

Tim C. I agree whole-heartedly! I've been tempted to take a pair of scaling dividers and reduce the design down so that a hot .25 would do for it, what a .61 does for the current offering.
rccardude, as ghee-grose stated.....a bad experience.......but if someone doesn't take a stand, the service will only get worse. Hey, if they want any more of my money maybe they ought to treat their customers with a little respect......I'm not one of the sheep herd so willing to be fleeced! Nothing worse in my opinion than a company the won't stand behind their mistakes. Nough said.
Good work on the repairs, guys........post the finished project when you're done, please.
Peace,
Downtrodden.

I'm not a big fan of horizon, JR, hanger9, that hole thing. I have 1 JR radio (RC car) and it failed so I had to send it back, they didn't fix it right, so it failed again, so I had to send it back the second time. Good thing it wasn't for an airplane. The twist was a decent ARF, but much of the linkage wasn't long enough so I had to replace it. Also, the horizon site is hard to find anything on and they charge way to much for shipping to Alaska.
On the flip side, the tower people have stepped up to the plate and beyond. I bought a cheap $70 trainer from them and when the wing failed due to not being glue together properly at the factory they not only mailed me another plane, but put a used OS 46 engine they had laying around in the box too. It was in decent shape and it is still flying the same trainer around today. It was great that they where willing to replace the engine as it was more expensive than the plane.
I should note that there is one hanger9 product that is better than the rest, and that is ultracote. I think it works that much better than monokote.

Twist 60 looks pimp. Drop a Saito 1.25 in that bad boy and go to town!
I think my next plane will be a harrier though. My buddy got one and it looks NICE. I'm going to try and get good at hovering the twist first though. That way when I pick up a 90 size 3D machine, it'll be like flying a trainer all over again
Hopefully I'll get a little bit of flight time in tomorrow. I'll be sure to let y'all know how it goes

Hobie,, GREAT JOB,, If I were you I'd wrap some packing tape around that thing and send her up at Sunrise, she's ready for the sky.
akschu this is where personal preference plays its roll. I prefer Mono-cote over ultracote anyday of the week, but thats just me... I grew up with the ol rice paper and dope thinner so when monocote was introduced I was a very happy man being able to wrap a plane in an evening instead of smelling fumes for a week. but Ultracote to me seems a little weird, it seems to shrink more , burn easier, and I don't know just doesn't work the best for me, I feel I can wrap anything in monocote and make it look great,,,,, usually that is.
I won't circum to spending money on a plane time and time again, I'll buy the plane once and repair it until I'm tired of repairing the same plane, (Which can take many years) then its on to a new project for me.
Flyin day is almost here for me, I've been able to get out everynight with my FO in the backyard so far this week and I'm going out there right now, Ihave about 10 minutes left of light... Yee haaa Twist Time looks like a cloudy but not rainy Saturday this weekend,,, Thank GOD I say.

Yeah, Waldo, and tell me you don't miss the smell of dope and that glue. I do. LOL
Jim Dines: Ditto. If you're gonna crash, do it right, for heaven's sake.
DTs and I got in a couple flights tonight--until almost 10. In these northern climes the sun takes a long time setting on the next to the longest day of the year.
2 pilots, four birds (2 Twists), all home safe--and I forgot to bring my glasses, almost lost it with the 330.
I may be gone for a while, out of touch. Y'all be well, fly well, and crash like you mean it.

I am happy to report I got 6 fifteen minute plus flights in yesterday on the Twist. I did 3 at lunchtime at the field near work and 3 in the evening out at my dad's. I am really starting to see improvement in my hovering and knife edge skills. With as much flying as I have been doing lately my take offs, landings, and basic aerobatics are becoming second nature. I don't even have to think about anything. Before I know it I am in the air, set up for a hover, and then the concentration begins. At the risk of sounding corny (not that I would be the first one on this thread to do so, talking planes
) I would say it almost a Zen like experience. The thumbs do what they are supposed to without any though, and I am just enjoying the experience, or in the zone so to speak. I have never been there with this plane up till now.
Planning more flying for this weekend. Weather is suppose to be a bit rainy and cloudy so we will see. Hope you all are able to burn some fuel too.
