jgutter,
I also switched to the arobatic enhancment kit (9T pinion, symetric blades) when I switched to the LiPo's. There will be a difference between the 9.6v NiMh and the 11.1v LiPo, but there should not be between two 11.1v LiPo's. I am loving this thing with LiPo power! Even with the 9T from 10T reduction, the LiPo's give me a noticalbly higher head speed and much more stability.

New member and new Blade CP owner with what looks like an extended learning curve after a few minutes with my new helicopter. I got it today and spent some time floating it across the living room floor, (it was pretty windy today so I didn't want to chance taking it outside). What I found is that even with the stock set-up, I don't have nearly enough room inside my home to fly this thing without risk of injury. I also noticed that it wants to roll onto it's side even when it's still on the skids, so I will certainly need the training gear. The manual is really vague if you are a beginner, as it doesn't even give you a basic diagram of the controller or thorough explanation of the flight characteristics of the model. I guess this is to be expected of an aircraft that's meant for intermediate to advanced flyers, but no one mentioned that tid-bit when we bought it at our local hobby shop, (along with the bladerunner II that I bought for my 9 year old).
My question is, am I going to be able to learn to fly this helicopter on my own without destroying it? And if there are any hints to minimizing the damage I do inflict on it, I would surely be appreciative of any insight. Since I am not only new to helicopters, but to the world of RC models in general, I am sure I will find a wealth of information as I begin my "training", but thanks in advance for any help.

Hey everyone
I am new to the RC world and like many amateurs today received a E-FLIGHT BLADE CP for Christmas.
True to its word it was easy to assemble and after reading through the manual, checking out some online sites, took it for its first test flight.
Anyway my first couple hover attempts went allright - I didn't really get it off the ground but the heli was stable and I was starting to practice using the tail rotor to move around.
Well on attempt #3 I hit the throttle a bit too much and had a crash. The crash wasn't too bad - the console was a bit damaged, the blades were chipped on the ends, and the one of the flybars was bent. I straigtened the bar fairly well and went for attempt #4. At this point I was more cautious but whenever the throttle picked up to the point the helicoptor was beginning to skid it would spin counter-clockwise (and spin faster with the more throttle i put on). Reading the manual I adjusted the appropriate main / tail rotor adjustment to correct for the excess spin but this did not appear to have any affect - or at least not enough to eliminate the left spin.
My question is do I need to order a crash kit and replace my moving parts or is this something that is out of adjustment that I can fix on my own? The flybar which was bent is straight as far as I can tell although I am sure it isn't perfect.
I appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks in advance!

Check the tail rotor and make sure it's "seated" into the gear and held there with the little rubber keeper. Mine comes loose every now and again.

I forgot when the heli takes off it will always want to go left. once you get used to it you won't even notice.
Also, I nicked a blade end very lightly this morning against a car tire. Blades had almost stopped spinning and the only damage I see is the monokote is spit open in a couple of places in the last 1/2 inch of the blade. Doesn't appear to be any damage to the wood underneath. Not having any model tools, what would be the best way to repair this? I had a spare set of blades, which are on there now.
Thanks

Hi guys can any of you answer this question, Ive got a new honeybee cp2 and theres around 1/2 inch backlash between the rotor and and the main gear, checked the sheer pin and thats ok but somehow there backlash there also theres some at the bottom of the main gear , hard to realy see where unless i strip it down, I would have thought that the there should not be any play there at all. also done the mod on the blade holders and noticed the coupling shaft was bent, that was pretty easy to put right, also had to adjust the motor as it was a very tight fit to the gear and was binding in one spot, cant see how this heli was test flown before as stated on the package

I think that I can speak for everyone that has flown a blade to this date, if you have never learned to fly a heli before flying the blade you need some sort of help!!! That being said your help can be, TRAINING GEAR, SIMULATOR, ANOTHER PERSON THAT HAS FLOWN A HELI BEFORE!!! How do I know this you ask? I have never flown a heli before a month ago, I have flown airplanes for 18 years. I had flown on the G2 simulator for a years time on and off. I finally got my wife to let me have a heli, and what do i get, the worst possible heli to learn on that one can buy! Micro heli's are very unstable and hard to learn on, but it can be done! At this time I have about 30 flights on mine and am just learning to slow forward flight. I have had one bad crash where i have had to replace that main shaft and blades, but that is it. What I am trying to say is that if you go slow and use that right learning tools you should have a great time with this heli!!!! I must say that with all of the help here on this site you have a weath of knowledge to help you along the way. I would suggest that you read all of the forums and take to heart that if you try to forward fly this thing right off the bat you will have a 1000 doller ship if you have no previous training. hope this helps some and good luck, I love this thing but you have to go slow in order to love it in one piece.

Fire,
I only wish I had done some research and checked out RCU before I got my Blade CP. I went to a local Hobby Shop here in Salt Lake City thinking, "Hey, what better place to get some expert advice on which helicopter would be best suited for me, as I have never operated an RC vehicle or aircraft in my life". Well evidentally I overestimated the sales staff's expertise, or underestimated their motivation to sell product.
In any event, I have already broken the seal and it's mine, so now I need to learn how to fly it. I have been trying to get a training gear for about the last week, but it seems any parts for this particular heli are hard to come by, (seems it's VERY popular). I get that, being as it's less than $250 bucks and ready to fly right out of the box, but I am already twitching, wanting to give hovering another shot today. I only skidded it around on the living room floor yesterday and already dinged up the blades a bid, so I am trying to restrain myself. Other than the training gear, (which I will get before I lift off), and a sim (which looks like a $50-$75 investment, not to mention that the consensus for the best sim for heli doesn't support Blade CP yet), I am guesing my best bet for shortening the learning curve will be an actual person with rc flight experience. So how do I find someone, without going back into the same hobby store that sold me a viper in a sack?

Use some scotch tape and tape over the covering so no air can get under it. Use just enough to get the job done and keep it as smooth as possible. I have done this and the tape held through several flights. Good luck!

you can get a set here in Pocatello @ DAPCO hobbies or Chief aricraft supply, or Heliproz, the last 2 are on line or make a set out of 1/8" dowel about 24" long and make a cross on the top of tha landing skids and hold them there with zip ties this should work great as for a simulator, I highly sugguest Great Planes G2 or G3 well worth the money if you find yourself HOOKED on the RC bug!!!

You can make your own training gear very easily. I used 1/8 inch carbon rod and ping pong balls. They are held on with rubberbands wrapped around the landing skid. I am not sure if you can see them in this picture but I will try.

yep they should have sold you the CX heli not the CP,, I just flew a CX today and it's really easy a 2 year old can fly it and it's a lot of fun to fly it too!!!!
Once you lern to fly the CP it's a lot of fun too,,, if you got an old Kite you can get the CF rods out of it and get some ping pong bolls and make yourself a set of Training Gear for it!!!! it will save you a lot of Blades!!!!

I just purchased a Blade CP a couple of days ago. I am new to helis so I've had a few minor crashes. Now I have severe vibration. The paddles are level and I think the blades are tracking correctly so I don't think that is the cause. I do notice that the shaft looks warped if I'm viewing from the top and while power is about 1/3 . The arming / gyro light also blinks red and green very rapidly as soon as the copter lifts off.
Also, when I pitch left the rotation slows dramatically and it makes a pretty bad noise. Could the shaft be warped. I didn't think the crashes that I had were that bad. Thank you for any advise as I'm pretty bummed out.

shumaker,
It sounds like you bent the main shaft. No biggie, about $6 to replace. When you buy one, go ahead and get yourself a second, along with a couple spindles (also known as a feathering shaft). These seem to be the things most commonly needing replacement after a crash. And sometimes it doesn't take much to bend them. If hit just right, they bend pretty easily. Good luck!

I got my blade yesterday, and thought id say that this little beast is a very well made machine. It flys like a dream for me ( no heli experince) and have only chiped the blades tips. Only thing is that the whole heli drops when i turn left?? This normal or something else. Nonetheless i can still fly it in my house. Training gear are a must!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So far as my 5th day of flying this helicopter (NEWBIE) I have pretty much progressed in hover, so far I am able to achieve 5-10ft hovers that are very stable, no left , right movement and I have also been able to do some forward flight and hover it back to me, one question I have is after mastering a hover technique- and being able to do forward flight, what is the best solution as far as transitioning FF into doing full circles?

i got the cp on christmas and already hovering petty good but notice something on the 4in1 the led light turns red it always turns red on full throttle even on a full bat and a stable hover i want to know what the red means? is it good or bad? will it ruin my 4in1? or is it broken?

That being said if I learned to fly this thing anyone can, just hang with it and upgrade to a dd tail motor from gws it will make this heli so much more predictable for a beginner to learn on and more responsive to. Also take the time to read this forum from page 1 no matter how long it takes it will be very valuable to you, and check out bdavision's assembly page it will definetly help in you time of need after a crash when repairing. I believe lipo's are better to learn on because you get more time to fly and less time to charge.
I think I have replaced every piece on this thing but the 4 in 1 at least once...lol... Blades about 15 times including 2 sets of carbon blade's which are a good investment also...

Don't worry about the red light, it turns red at near full throttle and is kind of neat in real low light. You'll find plenty of other things to worry about in between crashes. Happy flying, Tom

Just wanted to thank everyone who responded about the home-made training gear. I will be on it first thing tomorrow!
Got another question. Will switching to the carbon fiber blades, or the wooden aerobatic blades make the heli MORE or LESS unstable?

IMO flat bottom blades are more stable, but the carbon fiber blades will far out last them. 1 set of catbon blades $30, will replace oh say $105 of wooden ones.
