Yeah I need to get out and fly off the whole week and I will be flying. As far as learning High Alpha Time and fuel and Simulator. I also had a Tuffflight plane to fly not that I condone flying anyplanes other than Wildhare birds LOL

I forgot to mention this plane is a BLAST like Flyer Freq says, every flight just made me like her more and more! and the 53MM just keeps on getting stonger. with this Plane being so great I already want to order the big bro Red Bull Su-26[>:], but that is still on the waiting list maybe by the end of the year, hope that Tom would have some in stock then, Hey Tom by the way now that I mentioned the the Big Suk are there any chance you would be convertin the wing to a single servo? would you be getting more these in stock by December - January?

pics = My Suk n Me
It is likely that in the next batch (whenever that is) we will make the Sukhoi usable on a single servo aileron, but it will be a while. I am sold out right now and the bigger Sukhoi is not scheduled for production again until next year.

Hey Flyer Freq thank you very much for the words, I totaly agree with you on the economy part Im also trying to sell off some of my smaller stuf to fund a 100 cc airframe maybe for the first part of 2009 then later the engine, meanwhile ill be flying my suk. I did see Tom's new extra and i really like the looks maybe that would be the next when the time comes around.
As to our Field seems like now they say we have till around december - January now but now the rain is down, been raining for 6 days non stop, and we have a tropical storm here on the Honduran Coast where I live so I guess we are in for some more rain. We our Club would really like to get another field because in the one now the biggest we could go is a 50CC due to the area and runway, flying at our fiel now is like flying out of a bowl, Alot if tall trees around that we cant cut down, so our space is getting more limited day by day.

Tom, Thank you for the info I think the new Extra ( Royal Hare) would my choice whenever I could afford it. Tom a question concerning the Sukhoi 50cc, what is the correct way to balance the Suk? Upright or Inverted?

Thank you guys very much for the Help.

Thank you Tom ill be doing it that way since the first time I did it inverted. since all my other smaller low-wing planes are done that way. We live and Learn .
thank all you guys for this build Thread, alot of info in it I would recomend to any one building this plane to read this first Like I did.

Tom, again I have another question, I hope I'm not anoying you. what Safe distance would you recomend putting the MPI Regs. and Batts from the Receiver ? the Rx I'm running is the AR7000 with the DX7.

Thank you Again Tom.

The MPI regulators are kind of wimpy. I wouldn't use them if I had a choice, but if you are using 2 on a 50cc plane it should be OK. Keep in mind that low voltage on the AR7000 or any Spektrum receiver is to be avoided at all costs.

The regulators only have a short lead on them, that should go directl;y into the receiver. Any extension will introduce resistance and should be avoided.

ok Tom, I really wanted the fromeco Sahara reggs but TBM didnt have any in stock, but Ill keep a close eye on the MPI's till i gan can get some Fromecos, what other good regs. do you recomend? Some time its hard to get RC stuff here in Honduras we mostly get things when one of us or family go to US. I have 1 of the Regs. Hooked directly like you said and the other Y'ed in with the chock servo, so I have them just behind the receiver as u can see in the pics,I dont even know if the mouting metod is correct since these are my fist regs i ever use, I have them on a piece if foam with velcro, the foam is only touching the black part of the reg wich leaves the Heat Sink in the air not touching anything, i guess thats a logic part to make the Heat sink not touch anything. As for the batts I would like to put them right behind the wing tube, but before that I have to put the wings on and check the balance. I'm new to the 2.4ghz system wich claims to have no Interfarence with bats or regs close to the Rx but I want to be sure what I'm doing and get some advice before I go and loose the plane for some simple thing.
Keeping in mind what you said wich is true about the voltage is why Im changing the bats, cause I was using 2 Jr 4.8v 4500 Mah batts, and by reading about people having lockouts with low voltage is why i decided, and also with the lockout voltage being some like 3.5 volts or so just got me scared or those 4.8volts, which for that plane to run down 9000mah is alot of flying but things happen. besides they are very heavy batts. what would you prefer the NimH's or the Li Ions with regs??

Thank you Again Tom I really appreciate it,

Kenric P.

Don't even want to admit this in a public forum but my Sukhoi had a meeting with terra firma via a volley ball net. I took my Sukhoi to a local private lake camp out. The guys I was with really wanted to see this plane fly. We went to the beach where there is a big parking lot. I took off and flew a fairly aggressive flight routine for my audience and after about 8 minutes decided to land. I noticed that there was no wind and the plane was coming in a little hot so I lifted back up and decided to lengthen my approach to bleed off speed. I was so focused on my plane and being out on a long approach, I totally blocked out the fact there was a beach volley ball net in my path. The beach was vacant and nobody was around except my buddies. Before I could react the plane flew right into the net, broke the 4x4 post off and wrapped the plane in the net. I feared significant damage but was surprised how much the net collapsing saved my plane. I broke the cowl up pretty good, broke some of the firewall ribs and snapped the rudder in half. Everything is fixed. Replaced/repaired broken pieces (even fiberglass reinforced the engine box just to make sure). Fiberglassed the cowl but don't know if bondo would be a good thing to use for body filler prior to painting. I realize I could just get a cowl but this gives me an opportunity to pick up a new skill. Guess I learned my lesson flying giant scale at a make shift airfield. I think I will stick to my dedicated air strip. Couple of questions:

1.) Should I be concerned with the strength of the engine box. All pieces were found and glued back together along with fiberglass reinforcement?

2.) Is there a bondo or body filler that would be better for my fiberglass cowl?

Better to obtain another cowl. The bodywork for the repairs would be adding a lot of weight to the plane. The firewall would be good if backed up with some 1/8" sheet ply. The glass might hold it but it would be a lot more secure with something other than the glass holding it all together. Mount the engine up and run it on the ground to see what you see and decide from there.

I hit a soccor goal once flying at a high school but your vollyball net takes the cake. Pretty funny when you think about it

Kenric,
I just finished balancing my Sukhoi yesterday, but my technique is different than what Tom states in the manual.

Mark the cg location on the flat surface that the canopy sits on.
Drill a small hole on each side of the fuselage on this flat surface
Screw a small cup hook or eyelet into each hole.
Tie a string between the two hooks.
Hang the plane by attaching a rope to the string.
Tape the canopy to the side of the fuselage in its correct location.
Put a small bubble level on the stabilizer/elevator.
Move your battery around to get the plane balanced.

I hope you can follow this, if not let me know and I will take some pictures.

Another thought using your basic method. Run a length of piano wire through the holes you drilled and hang the plane from the piano wire. Move weight to suit.

Hello Chuck

thank you for the great metod I understand all the process except for the "Tape the canopy to the side of the fuselage in its correct location" part. do you mean to sit the canopy on the wing and line it up with the fuse where it goes? maybe a pic would be helpfull, I realy like this metod cause I could do it by my self, meanwhile the wing tip metod you need a helper. Im gonna be working on this tonight.
Thank you again

I don't know what happened to my reply to your last post, that I did last night. Anyway, just place the canopy on the wing in its correct position as you stated in your post. Let me know how it works for you, and if you need more help, I'll go and take some pictures for your.

The way I marked the wing tips was to install the wings on the wing tube without the body, then place the wing against a wall with the wing tips equal distance from the wall with the wing root touching the wall. Now measure from the wall to the balance point on the wing tube - ie front half. Transfer the same distance to each wing tip. Found this easier than using a string. Don;t remember now exactly what that measurement was.

I think I know but not sure... I think the spark plug was loose and I was getting enough blow-by around the plug threads that when on take-off it got hot enough and the head had expanded that little bit more that it just died... That was the one thing I notices when examining the pieces at the field after the crash.

otherwise everything else tested fine and it runs fine now .... *shrugs*

yep that will do it mate ?????. Thanks for the safety bench lead now all I have to do is con someone to make a few for us, our new club is coming along really well so far. We have a 120mtr x 10 metre wide ex netball court rubber type stuff, relayed as the runway with 3 taxiways built in, we are getting a 12 x 6 metre shade sail made now for the pits, so some pretty cool run up safety benches will be great.
